She's 7. A lot of the spy stuff on Amazon looks like tat but is there anything anyone can recommend?

my boy haf spygear last year..he loved the night vision goggles and the kit with finger printing and stuff to dust for clues with.

nothruroad · 07/12/2013 13:08

I got this for my DS - hope he likes it.

SilasGreenback · 07/12/2013 14:02

Mine have had various bits that look like tat over the years, but still like it. They have liked those things that act as movement sensors (some then fire things at the intruder!) and walkie talkies. We also have disguises and magnifiying glasses and guns (all spies are armed)

Has she read or seen Harriet the spy ? Might be a good book or dvd

Lizzylou · 07/12/2013 14:06

Ds2 has a Playmobil spy set, it's very good.

WhizzFucker · 07/12/2013 15:45

The Usborne Spy's Guide Book is the most brilliant spy related thing in existence.

WhizzFucker · 07/12/2013 15:48

A fine review

I have some small people I was struggling to think of presents for, so thanks for starting this thread.

We loved walkie talkies as kids, there's some for £15 online from tesco.

youarewinning · 07/12/2013 16:05

Smyths toys had quite a few spy things when I went in last week. Some looked quite fun. They had a spy camera you could set up, record and download things. I'll try and find a link

youarewinning · 07/12/2013 16:06

it's £40 off as well!

youarewinning · 07/12/2013 16:07

youarewinning · 07/12/2013 16:08

Ah link worked that time!

Ds is almost 7 and loves spies, I've made him a 'spy kit'

So in an old black laptop bag is;

Folder with worksheets I made on computer for suspects : case history / mission details and finger prints
Ink pad for taking prints
Fake passport with his photo and occupation as international spy
Fake business cards / ID cards and scanning cards
Spy glasses
Binoculars
Telescope
Fake moustaches and beards and glasses
Notebook and clipboard
Envelopes with stickers on saying evidence / top secret
Security marker pen so only shows under UV lights
Code book
Cypher wheel

BeaWheesht · 07/12/2013 19:03

And a magnifying glass and wind up torch

domesticslattern · 07/12/2013 19:13

If you live within reach of London and can get there before it closes at the start of 2014 then she would love this spies exhibition at the Imperial War Museum.

zooweemumma · 07/12/2013 19:18

Wow thank you, I have ordered that book from eBay already. Harriet the spy looks great although possibly not gadget filled enough. She'd watch spy kids on continuous loop if she could Confused

Some fab suggestions here, thank you.

Exhibition looks perfect and says on website that it closes 2015 so we'll definitely visit

Search 'optic wonder' on amazon, I loved mine as a child!

GoingToBedfordshire · 07/12/2013 21:38

My DDS love playing spies too - when they come down dressed all in dark clothes, I know they're off on a mission. H and M do navy leggings and long sleeved tops perfect for the job.

3rdnparty · 08/12/2013 09:40

Dh took Ds to the exhibition as he loves this
www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&productId=396967&cm_mmc=Google%20Adwords--AdCore%20Product--HBK2%20-%20Horrible%20Histories%20Handbook:%20Spies--horrible%20histories%20handbook&--=Horrible%20Histories%20Handbook:%20Spies&gclid=COXsta2ooLsCFWgJwwodD3QAdw

and said it was ok but they both thought the real exhibition about SOE that is also at the museum was much better so allow plenty of time for that ..

If getting walkie talkies I would recommend 'proper' ones like these
www.amazon.co.uk/Binatone-Latitude-Twin-Walkie-Talkie/dp/B000X2BYYQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386495077&sr=8-1&keywords=walkie+talkies

rather than toy/kids ones as they work a lot better (have been through lots of sets Xmas Wink)

DS wants these
www.amazon.co.uk/Jakks-Pacific-Ultra-Vision-Goggles/dp/B007TG2POM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386495271&sr=8-1&keywords=night+vision+goggles

and these

www.amazon.co.uk/Spy-Net-Stealth-Video-Glasses/dp/B004X4X3N0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386495334&sr=8-1&keywords=camera+glasses

They are the main things on his xmas list and all he talks about but I am so loath to spend that sort of money on them as I know they'll be more rubbish than he thinks...so if anyone has seen them cheaper would be grateful..

there was a good looking set in toys r us the other day unfortunately we have most of the bits but I am loving the mission outfits idea thanks Xmas Grin
