I'm having a dilemma about what wrapping paper to get.

I love this from john lewis but I'm usually a wilko wrapping paper girl so I'm finding it hard to take the plunge into paying £3 a roll.

What are you going for? Inspire me!

Do people have wrapping paper themes? Really? How do you manage with "outside" presents that wouldn't fit your theme then?

Surely life is too short to worry about theming your wrapping paper?? It all ends up in the bin anyway.

MissMilbanke · 27/11/2013 09:44

Ooh thats really nice but £3 a roll is a bit much.

I went into marks yesterday and they are doing a 3 for 2 but all their rolls were really dull.

I need some inspiration too...

Labootin · 27/11/2013 09:44

Whatever's on offer that vaguely fits my colour scheme of red and white

Labootin · 27/11/2013 09:46

Outside gifts I like to be in different colours as they're easy to spot

I do have a loose system

Everyone has a different pattern of wrapping paper so it's easy to divvy up on the day

It could be worse I could have a spreadsheet

I love wrapping themes, it's only Christmas once a year Wink

I usually get cheap stuff for stockings and kids but nice stuff to sit under the tree. Is that really mean of me?

Mary's one year I wrapped presents in different newspapers ... Hmm I might re do that one

noblegiraffe · 27/11/2013 09:50

My theme is 'rushed at the last minute'.

You know the John Lewis ad last year with the boy bringing the badly wrapped gift to his parents (sob)? That's my wrapping, that is.

capsium · 27/11/2013 09:50

If I can I usually choose gold, silver or tartan on a roll.

That way it doubles up as birthday wrapping throughout the year! Grin

Ribbons / gift tags add any extra Christmassyness.

WhereIsMyHat · 27/11/2013 09:58

Oh, newspapers would be good but we don't buy them anymore. Lovely with a bit of red ribbon.

I bought a huge roll of double-sided paper from Costco last year and I think I'll be using it for a few years yet! I found some Santa pegs in Tiger and I use those to attach the tag - made from last year's Christmas cards -to some ribbon. Lovely.

nemno · 27/11/2013 13:44

Gift bags from last year, the year before that, etc, until they disintegrate or someone doesn't leave them in our house.

capsium · 27/11/2013 13:46

Oooh I save gift bags too.

OddBoots · 27/11/2013 13:48

Erm... a 'festive paper around the outside' theme. Oh dear, I'm a bit rubbish, sorry.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 27/11/2013 13:49

I don't have a theme, isn't that a bit anal?!
I just buy what I like. Notonthehighstreet had some nice sheets that I got, and I also got some if the John Lewis newspaper style paper, it's lovely. I thought £3 for a roll was average, is it not?

callmekitten · 27/11/2013 18:26

I love to see all different wrappings under the tree so my theme is "eclectic". I have a ridiculous number of rolls. I love the paper you linked, by the way.

MrsDavidBowie · 27/11/2013 18:29

Dd 17 has Disney princesses, ds 14 spongebob and dh will have silver.

SirChenjin · 27/11/2013 18:32

Whatever is a)nice and b)on offer.

Do you have a lot of time on your hands at the moment OP?! Grin

WhereIsMyHat · 27/11/2013 18:46

We're in quarantine as my middle boy has chicken pox Grin boooooored!

Halloween, Having a 'theme' is only as anal (but not as soul-less) as notonthehighstreet!

I think I'm going for a roll of the original plus this set www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-woodland-tree-multi-pack-gift-wrap-4-x-3m/p449949

Works out at £8 for five rolls, bargain.

Brown paper with twine and luguage labels which I stamp. Cheap and cheerful.

WhereIsMyHat · 27/11/2013 18:59

That's what I usually go for MrsPear, stylish, cheap and never dates.

This year I am doing plain metallic paper, with contrasting coloured ribbon in the same style. Not sure about gift tags yet as I haven't spotted any to go with the theme. That's for under the tree presents, then its last years leftovers and pound shop paper for DC's stocking presents as its not looked at for any length of time and ripped off in semi-darkness of the bedroom. Only exception is for DC's main present, which is in Disney themed paper for a special reason Wink

Dilidali · 27/11/2013 19:13

Brown paper and red/ green ribbon. Brown paper tags, some with green, some with red reindeers stamped on.

MrsHowardRoark · 27/11/2013 19:18

I like to have a wrapping theme too. I like the presents to look pretty as there's often very little in them Smile

This year I have dull red paper and brown paper with reindeer stamped on. Contrasting ribbons and bows for larger gifts and candy canes to tie on for the children's presents.
