What Christmas wrapping theme are you going for?

I'm having a dilemma about what wrapping paper to get.

I love this from john lewis but I'm usually a wilko wrapping paper girl so I'm finding it hard to take the plunge into paying £3 a roll.

What are you going for? Inspire me!

I always get paper that can be used all year as it makes me cross to not use all the Christmas one then have it in the way all year. This year it's plain silver and a hug roll of red and white striped that I got from IKEA that has already done birthday presents all this year...

Morgause · 28/11/2013 09:04

Whatever I bought in the Sales last January.

Bewildered that anyone would want a theme let alone post about it..

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 09:08

Random explosion of colour is our theme - same as our decorations. I don't like it all to be matched up and immaculate. Definitely no ribbon, slows things down too much at unwrapping time. Tags are made out of last years cards cut up and taped on.

ThreeMyselfAndI · 28/11/2013 09:20

each of our dds gets their own paper, easier to identify who's present are who's. other families gifts get wrapped in a fourth type of paper. wrapping is one of my favourite part's it all has to look perfect..... dh's attempts means he is longer allowed to help seariously its like a bomb exploded inside wrapping paper and 8m of sellotape Grin

I buy my paper in the January sales, but I'm going to ikea this weekend and will be coming away with a few rolls!!

I like to try and keep to a theme of paper, but I live wrapping presents. It takes a Saturday afternoon while watching a Christmas film - usually home alone!! Grin

I think a theme looks nice.
I also have a huge issue with cheap wrapping paper that rips as u try and wrap. It pisses me off!!

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 28/11/2013 10:01

For those doing Brown paper, writing or drawing with glue on it then sprinkling glitter on it, looks great too.

Liking the red idea from FC and also paper with him on it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 11:29

Glitter sprinkled on might look great but I really wouldn't thank you for the mess. Glitter glue pens are a much better idea.

ManicMinor · 28/11/2013 13:00

I wrap stocking presents in red or green tissue paper sheets (much easier to wrap awkward shapes), fastened with these 'delivered by Santa' stickers. Then I use Santa paper for the one under the tree present, again with the sticker on.

Then from us, I've bought that woodland paper from John Lewis, because it was a good price, plus bits we have left. But never paper with Santa on, that's the sole preserve of North Pole presents.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 28/11/2013 14:40

Crikey Labbotin - life's too short! We just buy cheap crap from the pound shop. It seems a shame to waste so much money on paper that's going to end up in the bin.

Are you usually so easily confused and rude?

John lewis paper ordered. Resisted the matching ribbons that were £8!!! Lidl have ribbons at the moment that are pretty cheap.

I have a ginormous Costco roll too as recommended by previous poster and on the bargains thread. Its brilliant quality and double sided so can have a mix of parcels but they co-ordinate. And it was about £8 and its thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis long (as compared to normal roll being thiiis long)

lookout · 28/11/2013 14:51

I can understand wanting a theme but I much prefer a great big mis-match of colour, as someone else posted up thread. It looks more normal and less magazine-y anal Grin

soundedbetterinmyhead · 28/11/2013 14:55

Wow - it's another world! I have never heard of themed wrapping in real-life. Crikey. [helpful]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 14:59

Colour coordinated IMO makes it look like a shop window display, which is nice if that's the effect you are after, I'm happy to admire it in other people's houses, it's just not how I like to do it myself. Hence us going for "explosion in a paint factory" on both tree and presents.

Dilidali · 28/11/2013 15:00

It's only a bit of fun :) I wouldn't get too worried about it.

WhereIsMyHat · 28/11/2013 15:00

Theme haters, what about your trees? Are they colour coordinated or also a mish mash of colours?

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 15:01

Definitely mish-mash of colours on tree yes, the only thing that is banned from it is tinsel as I only like hanging decorations.

WhereIsMyHat · 28/11/2013 15:03

Yeah, no tinsel here either. It's got to come back into fashion so though, as have coloured lights. They were all the rage when I was little.

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 28/11/2013 15:06

My tree is slightly more colour co-ordinated - but then my tree decorations aren't ripped open and put in the bin shortly after Santa brings them.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 15:11

I would never use single coloured lights, always multicoloured here.

lookout · 28/11/2013 18:07

Yup, mish mash of colours on the tree too. My Christmas dinner table is coordinated though. Don't know if that makes me hypocritical Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2013 18:49

I try and do coordinated for the table, but as our crockery is blue and white it is tricky. I have a silver runner which doesn't really show on a white table cloth, I want a deep blue cloth but can't find one anywhere.

WhereIsMyHat · 28/11/2013 19:01

Ah, now whos's anal Grin

No colour coordination at my Christmas dinner table! We all have our flaws.

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 28/11/2013 20:22

So you accept that colour coordination at Christmas time is the sign of a flawed personality?! Grin
