Now I am nosy intrigued as to how much the dreaded 'twitch' cost you last year. I probably won't start twitching until at least the second week only December when things are getting wrapped... But it cost £140 with oh I don't think dbil has as much as dfil etc etc .

Tell me your stories Grin and make me feel better

I'm twitching! DD announced last night that she didn't want the version of a toy she previously mentioned, she wanted a different version of it.

Guess which version I've bought? Aargh!

I think I'm going to have to stand firm as I know she will like the "wrong" version regardless, although she might have a moan about Father Christmas getting it wrong.

Marne · 07/12/2013 10:29

Christmasjumper- dd1 said to me the other day ' I would really like a nerf crossbow'. 'great' I thought, as I have bought her the rebelle (the girly) nerf crossbow, then she said 'but I don't want the pink one, I don't like pink' Angry. Oh well, its too late, I got it at a bargain price and theres no way I'm going to change it, hopefully she will get over the fact its pink and will still like it.

Does it count if I had a personal twitch? Grin eBay had a nice ipad cover and a bag I loved and I bought if for myself to make me happy on christmas.

StillWearingOddSocks · 08/12/2013 01:24

Help! I have the twitch.

It started off nicely - national lampoon's christmas vacation on netflix, and some wine, and the presents in piles ready to wrap.

But I seem to have a lot less than I thought I had when I was looking at my list of bought pressures. I use the gifts app to keep track!

Was desperately looking at mumsnet for pressie ideas when I found this twitch thread instead....

Misty9 · 08/12/2013 23:40

I'm definitely twitching with presents for ds, have already bought him wooden kitchen set and stocking stuff, but we're away and not taking kitchen present with us so I want to get him other stuff. Even though he won't notice, care or need more crap toys, and will get loads from family. And he's two so really won't care..
Still twitching but oh would kill me.

Goldenhandshake · 09/12/2013 12:28

I get food and gift related twitches. Usually costs me a good £100 every year.

SummerRain · 09/12/2013 12:33

I always get it the week before xmas. And generally leave us short on food money to get through xmas Blush

I don't know why I do it, it's only one day and we haven't got money to burn but I go into a panic every year. I think part of it is I feel bad that the kids don't get to do much all year as we're constantly broke so i want to give them a lovely xmas at least to make up for that so I go mad buying nice food, biscuits, extra stocking fillers.

This year I've warned them that money is tight but as I've just started a new job and will be working loads over xmas we can go out in january and have a fun family shopping trip. I'm hoping the knowledge that they aren't expecting as much will avoid the twitch but I'm not that hopeful tbh Hmm

TheHOHOHOnlyPink · 09/12/2013 13:02

I twitched and spent 9 quid on sir Axelrod from cars 2 for 2 year old ds2. He has decided that Santa is bringing him a jeep. I bought a lovely wooden jeep. Ds2 is now obsessed with cars 2 and every time Axelrod comes on, ds2 points and shouts "jeep!" gleefully. I think he wants that jeep specifically. And of course that one is a rare-ish one and had to get from amazon. Might as well add a few things on for free delivery... Total cost €34.

rainbowfeet · 09/12/2013 13:04

Got the twitch really bad but honestly can't afford to buy anymore so desperately trying to ignore... Last year it cost me about £150 Hmm

SummerRain · 09/12/2013 13:05

Grin I do that too... 'It's a shame to pay for delivery, I'll just pick up x, y and z while I'm at it' Blush

CremolaFirCone · 09/12/2013 13:29

I have a current twitch about dmum.
Have got her a subscription to Good Housekeeping but it's, not you know, going to be , erm that exciting to open. Now I am in a quandary as she needs for nothing Confused

youretoastmildred · 09/12/2013 13:54

fuckity fuck. I am at severe risk of a really expensive twitch. dd1 wants a piece of barbie-related plastic tat that costs HOW MUCH? and she isn't getting it. She wants it because the CM's daughter is getting it (she wouldn't have heard of it otherwise, she never sees adverts on TV). before this, she had asked for a bike and we have got her a really good nearly new one on ebay. now she has stopped talking about the bike and is all about this piece of shit.

I work in a toy-related field and I know this is not worth the money.

At the school fair, FC asked her what she wanted and basically promised her this piece of utter tat. she is going to be disappointed.
I don't like it, I don't approve of it, I can't afford it, no way is it worth the money.
But someone's husband in a fake beard basically told her she is getting it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHHHHHHHH

milk · 09/12/2013 14:20

youretoastmildred How old is your DD?

enormouse · 09/12/2013 14:21

Twitched again after wrapping DPs presents and thinking they were a bit lacking and picked up a new bag for him in the asos sale. Hopefully that's it twitch-wise. [Twitches nervously and removes amazon, asos and the hut from bookmarked websites list]

IAmTheTwitch · 09/12/2013 14:34

Ah, hello! I see I have caught people early this year!

Buy my pretties, buy! Xmas Grin

DoubleLifeIsALifeOfSorts · 09/12/2013 14:37

I am so happy I've found this thread... My spiritual home!

Naming it makes it easier to avoid, at least I know I'm twitching and it's a thing

I have totally overbought as usual, even more than usual in fact as I decided that everyone has to have a stocking to avoid my parents doing The Stare at poor ds (3) em when he opens his. He got very uncomfortable last year and kept trying to give me his pressies to open to take the heat off him (adorable boy).

Sooo, I was comfortable with over buying and had the excuse of stockings to fill. Then I actually trialled the stockings and found out they are TARDIS stockings argh! So now I am trying to be rational and not go into twitch twitch twitch twitcheroo-ing

Ok, I need big yet cheap stocking fillers...

youretoastmildred · 09/12/2013 14:53

She's four and a half.
What do other people do about this man-in-beard-say-yes thing?

BeCool · 09/12/2013 14:58

my name is BeCool and I twitch.
So happy to have found you.

I usually get to end of November thinking I'm fantastic and I have everything done and dusted bar for a short "to-Do" list.

Then 3rd December arrives and I start twitching like mad until I have proper up to date spreadsheets, not random bits of pseudo-organised information scattered over Evernote, Reminders, old receipts in my handbag, and small parts of my brain.

Butkin · 09/12/2013 15:01

Main presents - nah.

Stock fillings on the other hand, I'm already twitching. Always worried that we've not got enough to fill that damn stocking (which seems to be bigger every year) with enough variety to cause excitement on Christmas morn...

dingit · 09/12/2013 15:03

Cremola, I got my dm a very pretty glass frame from poundland Shock (it looks better than a pounds worth) with a photo of her dgc in it. ( she also has perfume, I'm not that cheap)

Allegrogirl · 09/12/2013 15:11

There's a name for the annual angst I feel every year, yay! DH think I'm a complete loon, but then he sits back and lets me deal with it all.

Have spent £100 each on the DCs when the budget was £80 (thank you book people). I have been waay better in the last few years due to my spreadsheet showing exactly how much I have spent.

Biggest twitch at the moment is panto for dmum, DD1 and me. Can't afford it but dmum would love to go and she does lots for us.

JugglingUnwiselyWithBaubles · 09/12/2013 15:13

I'm glad you included condiments in your definition Nanny as I get the jars, chutneys, and pickles twitch quite badly most years - in spite of obviously now having cupboards of jams and chutneys which are probably fine from last year or the year before? DH gets a bit of a packet twitch on so we have packets of bread sauce, stuffing, and gravy granules like you might take on a 1950's hiking trip, with rationing still in force - powdered custard too for the pudding
I try to upgrade his stirling efforts at Christmas dinner with handfuls of real breadcrumbs, sprinklings of cranberries or chestnuts, and a good slug of port Xmas Smile - and of course my secret supply of pickled delights Xmas Grin

JugglingUnwiselyWithBaubles · 09/12/2013 15:16

I also get the stocking filler twitch really badly - I mean can you really trust Santa to think of everything for so many children Xmas Grin

CremolaFirCone · 09/12/2013 15:22

Dingit I am standing in a gift Twitch shop looking at cath kidston tatterie. Stop me before I get the debit card out. I only went to lidl for vegetables and the gift shop beckoned me......Wink
