£20 budget for make-up addict SIL?

ShinyBauble · 16/11/2013 23:40

My extended family is doing Secret Santa for the adults this year which is a huge relief as there are over 20 of us to buy for otherwise!

I got my new SIL. I don't know too much about her, except that she loves make-up - Lancome, Benefit, Bobbi Brown. I don't suppose anyone knows of something that comes in around £20 which would look nice? I looked at the Lancome counter the other day and it was about £17 just for a mascara! Benefit has a few things, but they have a romantic love theme this year which makes me feel a bit awkward as I don't know her too well yet!

Debenhams had a "They're Real" Mascara Full Size + a mini one (which is usually £8) for the normal price.

Have a look on QVC, they have Bobbi Brown, sometimes 2-3 in a set (but you need to add the P&P)

And Benefit.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/11/2013 00:15

QVC have an Elemis Todays Special Value.
It's £40 but you do easy-pay of £10 x 4.

Anyone else who can share the cost with you?

Or, you could give her a couple of the pieces and keep or gift the others?
(If she's a make-up addict she'll know Elemis)
Rose & Jasmine is being launched on QVC.

Have a look at boots star buy this week I'm sure it's make up for £19 instead of £40 Grin

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 17/11/2013 00:23

Benefit High Beam is marvellous, m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_123901920099_-1
Debenhams has 10% off Benefit atm.

Gifts wise, id go for the above or, if you want to get more stuff for your money this m.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_123901009899_-1 and maybe a nice pair of bedsocks with the leftover money.

Nessalina · 17/11/2013 00:25

Agree with space girl, Boots star buy is a [http://m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/Soap-Glory-Girl-O-Whirl-Makeup-Set_1363950/?un_jtt_v_prodImage=Boots/10159729_1#sceneSevenImageBlock Soap & Glory makeup set] half price £40 reduced to £19 Grin

MrsBertMacklin · 17/11/2013 00:27

I love makeup and would be over the moon with a single Chanel lipstick as a present. £23.

Nessalina · 17/11/2013 00:28

Fail! What I meant to say was: Soap & Glory make up set £40 reduced to £19!

Im not impressed by the Boots thing. I dont really think it looks worth £40 to start with, and those palette type things usually are 2/3s full of stuff that wont get used.

If she uses expensive make up, she will know how much it costs and so isnt gping to do Hmm face at one small item.

HairyLittleCarrot · 17/11/2013 00:30

or you could get a huge amount of makeup for £20 from MUA who have some superb dupes for the Urban Decay Naked 1 and 2 palettes...at £4 each.
I've recently ditched tons of hardly used clinique and Estee Lauder stuff and replaced with stupidly cheap but fantastic MUA stuff. Am very impressed.

timidviper · 17/11/2013 00:33

The Liz Earle cleanser with the muslin cloth is usually available in a set with a mini face spritzer for under £20.

Lancome do their mascara with an eye make up remover and an eye pencil for £22
Boots had a Smashbox set which was trial sizes of their 5 or 6 best products and would be lovely for a beauty addict

I looked at the Boots Star Buy when I was in store this week and wasn't impressed tbh

ShinyBauble · 17/11/2013 00:34

Oh wow, thank you! I wasn't expecting any answers when I checked back! I have to get to bed, I'm so exhausted but I'll be back in the morning to look at all these, thanks again Smile

If she likes nail polish and you have a TK Maxx near you pop in there. They usually have sets of Nails Inc, Essie and OPI polishes for a good price.

rightsaidfrederick · 17/11/2013 00:56

Does she like nail polish? If so, you can get some brands that are normally quite expensive in the UK remarkably cheaply on eBay, if you import from the US. For instance, China Glaze here is around the £3.50-4 mark inc. P&P, but is RRP £13.

OPI is another good brand to look out for.

GlitteredPinecones · 17/11/2013 07:24

Have a look here and click on shop by brand. They have loads of designer stuff really cheap. I bought lots from there a couple of weeks ago and it's all good stuff. You could get quite a bit for £20.

CitygirlbytheC · 17/11/2013 07:28

The Urban Decay Naked Basics palette is £20 online at Beauty Bay

MrsDoomsPatterson · 17/11/2013 07:30

I would buy her a Nails Inc set - there's a lovely one with Autumnal nail colours.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 17/11/2013 07:31

Or a high end hand cream, they're usually around £20. Clinique etc.

GlitteredPinecones · 17/11/2013 07:47

If you want nail varnish, I love Ciate stuff. This set is £20

I think most of these kits are under budget.

£5 over budget, but you get 8 (small) nail varnishes

They sell individual ones for £9 here

In the top right of the page, it says sign up to their newsletter and you get 10% off too.

SaltySeaBird · 17/11/2013 07:48

I tried to find the Urban Decay set for £20 but couldn't see it at that price, was there a voucher code?

GlitteredPinecones · 17/11/2013 07:50

Benefit at Debenhams has 10% off

lade · 17/11/2013 09:55

Have you tried cosmetic fairy online?

They do bits of different brands but much cheaper than in the shops.

Www.cosmeticfairy.co.uk I think!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/11/2013 14:30

Lancome do a nice gift at this time of year usually - a mascara, eyeliner and little pot of make up remover for about £20. Their mascara is v good, especially Definicils.

Clarins have a set of lip stuff for about £18 - or if you can push to £5 more, they have a brilliant set including a Beauty Flash Balm for £25.

MorrisZapp · 17/11/2013 14:34

Saint Sali Hughes says buy the smallest thing you can afford. Ie buy a small, high quality item. Not a whacking great heavy three for two job.

I think she'd love yiu forever if yiu got her the Stila Convertible Colour palette featured in the Guardian yesterday. It costs 20 quid for five colours, each one is 16 each bought separately.

If my SIL bought me that I'd be like OMG OMG OMG
