Looking for present suggestions for my son who will be 3.5 this christmas. He already has a scooter, a bike, wooden railway, garage and duplo. He's the first grandchild on both sides so I'm being asked for present suggestions but also need ideas for his Father Christmas presents too. Any suggestions?

I am buying mine a farm with all the animals and a tractor with a trailer to drive them around.

Spaulding · 15/11/2013 16:17

VTech Kidizoom camera, Batcave, a few art and crafts pieces (paint blocks, glue, felt, googly eyes etc), books, action figures. Plus other bits and bobs.

jojane · 15/11/2013 16:22

He's getting from us and family
Bike,
Octonauts
Duplo
Playmobile pirate ship
Rescue helicopter
Fireman Sam toys

Mum2Fergus · 15/11/2013 18:03

Currently pages 121-149 of Tesco gift catalogue lol but likely Imaginext BatCave accessories (got cave for birthday), Monsters Inc playdoh set, Toy Story squinkies, couple of DVDs...

imme · 15/11/2013 18:15

Playmobil knights castle
Toddler camera (loves taking pics with our phones and with our SLR)
Octonauts stuff

ManicMinor · 15/11/2013 18:21

Imaginext batman stuff (already has the bat cave)
Playmobil Western take along city and Indian camp
Playmobil volcano and dinosaurs
Schleich-type animals (he loves these)
Jigsaws
Little Animal Ark book set

(Not all from me, I also have to buy what the GPs will give him).

LazyLondoner · 15/11/2013 18:24

Thank you. Some great ideas. Off to check out kids cameras now as I think he'd love that. He already has some duplo but that is definitely the toy he plays with most- he has the farm and zoo animals and the fire station but what other duplo sets would people recommend?

Has he ever seen Octonauts? The toys are much better than the usual tv tie in ime - DS got some at 3 and they are still well played with 2 years on.

LazyLondoner · 15/11/2013 19:59

Can't believe I'd forgotten playmobil - will definitely be requesting this off grandparents.

He seems to be the only child not into octonauts - something in the first one that he saw scared him and he now refuses to watch it! He is a big fan of fireman sam though so that is a good suggestion.

Am not familiar with imaginext but will check it out.

Any other suggestions?

My nearly 3 year old has played with his fireman sam figures, fire engine and station daily for months, he is getting more of the figures and vehicles for Christmas, plus dressing up outfits, monsters inc playdoh set and a mini electric guitar.

FixItUpChappie · 16/11/2013 02:53

Mine is getting a costume box shared with his brother - in it will be a fireman costume, a construction worker outfit/tool box, a doctor costume, a wand, some pirate gear, a crown and a lovely velvet cape.

He is also getting:

-a Battat take apart crane
-a Melissa and Doug Stamp and Sort Mailbox
-Pirates of the Tub Bath Foamies by Alex
-a gender neutral tea set by ELC

I've also picked up some books for him:

-Big Book of Animals - Encyclopedia Style Book
-A Magnifying Glass Book called What Do You See by Eric Carle
-Animalia 50th Anniversary Edition by Graeme Base

In his stocking he is getting a kids snorkel mask and some marine life Schleich animals for bath time fun.

I don't think I'll buy all year again in the future. I ended up with more than intended when the idea was to take advantage of sales and save Blush. Still, I think this Christmas will be a blast Grin

firemansamsmam · 16/11/2013 03:44

Playmobil is brilliant. Now my DS is into it (has been since about 3.5) I never run out of ideas for what to get him. He is getting a pirate island and fort to go with his ship, but the possibilities are endless with police, firemen, farm sets etc all at lots of different price points.

putyourhatonsweetie · 16/11/2013 04:59

Balance bike...so lovely it looks like the elves made it.... His birthday as well so he is getting a leap pad. Swimming stuff and duplo from others.

A drill/screwdriver set and hammer/spirit level set. They are fully functioning small versions of grown up ones that will have to be used under supervision, but he is OBSESSED with tools as he hangs out with my DDad a lot who is into DIY in a big way. we did draw the line at the saw...might wait a year or so before we get him that! :o I can't wait to see his face on Xmas day!!

ManicMinor · 16/11/2013 11:09

I agree with iFad that you don't need to go mad for this age - I'm getting toys that are more targeted to older children because he's already got into that kind of thing with an older brother.

Luggage16 · 16/11/2013 11:46

too much this year ( I find 3 to be the magic age when suddenly they switch from not playing with much to being interested in lots and lots of real play!). He is getting (from us and my mum and some bits shared with his sister):

  • wooden castle and tower
  • wooden garage (bargain from elc £18!)
  • schleich dragons x 2 (half price on amazon)
  • gup x
  • octonaut pirate ship
  • Pesos gup
  • budkin knights and royal family figures
  • meowsical keyboard
  • furby boom
  • new train
  • books
  • mr men figures (from local for sale boards for £4)
BeaWheesht · 16/11/2013 13:40

Dd is 3 and ds is 6 but things they like / liked at 3:

Imaginext - especially the space shuttle
Arts and crafts stuff
Kitchen and accessories
Till, trolley and food
Post office
Puppets and puppet theatre

LG574 · 16/11/2013 18:05

I've got my 3 year old ds a wooden train set from Elc, a play dough set, books and a peppa pig dvd so far. He was keen on the fisher price fire station in kiddicare, so poss getting him that also. He loves fireman Sam, so might get him the fire engine that he can steer. Can't remember what it's called!

crazykat · 16/11/2013 18:14

I started getting ds1 dressing up outfits about this age - bob the builder is good as you can get toy tools as well.

Work bench, chalk board on an easel, hot wheels cars, dumper truck, duplo.

I also got things that he was a bit young for at the time but come summer he'd be able to use as his birthday is just after Christmas so wouldn't get any other presents.

GogoGobo · 16/11/2013 19:21

My DS will be 3.1 and I've got him
Playmobil fire engine
Playmobil helicopter
Dressing up outfit
Lego cars
Play doh ice cream maker
Walkie talkies from the Science Museum
Brio farm railway set

Oops, just writing this has made me think I've got too much Blush

Agree with the poster who said you can't go wrong w playmobil and the walkie talkies look brilliant. We go to the woods loads with our dog and imagine DS will love hiding and "radio-ing" us :)

newtonupontheheath · 16/11/2013 19:26

Just reading this has made me feel unprepared for Christmas Shock

My ds has a Melissa and Doug game (shopping list?) a fireman Sam set and that's about it so far.

Taking a note of all these ideas though!

Strawberryfieldsforever1 · 16/11/2013 19:26

More of the ever popular Playmobil toys. Also a marble run and a playdoh cupcake maker set. Books and DVDs and Pop up Pirate.
