Anyone do Stockings from Santa, big gifts from parents?

Not really sure how else to word it Grin

DDs birthday is a week before christmas, and I want to make it special by her getting her big/main presents then.

Then, at Christmas, Santa fills the stockings (for all three of us - I bloody love a stocking!), and we buy a couple of gifts to put under the tree. She also gets gifts from close family.

Anyone else have Santa do the stocking gifts.only?

We had just stockings from Father Christmas last year, but this Christmas he will bring them one bigger present too. I'm hoping that they won't notice the inconsistency as they are 5 and 3. The plan is for them to just open the stockings and present from Santa first thing, then we can try to stagger the opening of the presents from family and friends over the rest of the day.

For us santa delivers everything. .. I tell ds everybody (us, family, friends) send everything to santa so he can deliver them for us... seems a pointless exercise, but I don't think 3 year olds over think these things:)

We do this. Stockings first thing from FC, then presents under the tree from us and family/friends.

DD's birthday is 23 Dec so a lot of presents around!

I honestly don't get where this belief that Santa delivers all presents ever came from

It struck me that FC was getting all the credit the year DS had his Wii Hmm
At 9 the concept of FC is a little hazy now and we have already fielded a couple of probing questions this year
I do think DCs don't think about things half as much as we do so I don't ever mention it now and DS knows that this years big present is jointly from us and his GPs as there's not a cat in hells chance of FC getting the credit for THAT one :o

Yes FC brings the stocking only, all big gifts are from whoever bought them. Dd loves her stocking especially because FC fills it with things I wouldn't buy for her Wink

FC just brings stockings - the most he usually stretches to is a dvd plus tat toys which are always the most popular ones on the day. Any bigger things come from us as don't want the big red man taking all the credit, also helps for putting the lid on any outrageously expensive requests, as we can say that it is too expensive for FC who has to give to all the children and too much/ naff for us to give. Immortality last year though they decided fell into his category as was sort of magic, though even FC wasn't able to manage it.

We do the big present from us and the stocking/sack from Father Christmas, but Father Christmas brings all the presents, except any presents from family/friends which have been put under the tree. They also know that mummy and daddy have to buy some things to send to FC as he is a very busy person!

I always did that. I don't get why some parents have all presents from Santa. I made sure that DD thanked people for Christmas presents. How could she do that if they all came from Santa?

Stockings and all presents are from Santa in this house. Apart from the ones from family, they just come from who ever buys them.

Santa brings the stocking, 1 big present and a few smaller ones, we then give them one reasonable present and a couple smaller ones.

Yup, 'twas also what I grew up with. The excitement of the bulging stocking on the end of the bed in the morning was so special as a child, I want mine to have the same experience. Plus it meant that my brother and I didn't pester M&D to get up (too) early to go and open presents under the tree as we could open the stocking when we woke.

As a kid I was also told that FC would make sure that all the children in the world got presents. That really stuck with me, and I think fuelled my early desire to be generous/charitable in the festive period.

Stockings from FC, all the rest from whoever gives them, iyswim. We do stockings first thing - it used to give the dses something to amuse them - and then do the rest of the presents after lunch. I find this keeps the excitement going through the day.

We did once stay with friends for Christmas, and they opened all the presents and stockings first thing - and I found that, once lunch was over, the day just felt dull and pointless - sort of slumped in front of the tv, nothing to look forward to.

Just the little bits in stockings from FC here, all other pressies are from whoever bought them, including those from us. It's how my parents and dh's parents did it so my children were older when I realised other people did it differently. My children are 14 and 10 now so it's all done with a wink.

I agree. MIL does this and it feels like the day is over before it has begun. OH thinks I am weird fro wanting to spread things out a little, but now that MIL doesn't stay with us at Christmas any more I can at least get us all to eat breakfast before opening the other presents.

We do this too. FC is for smaller bits, arts and crafts etc and a satsuma. Like pp said, I'm not letting FC get all the credit Wink

Yes stocking from Santa has lots of little thing - everything under £3 or 4 pounds. Then big presents from us, grandparents, aunts and uncles etc.
