I have decided this year to make everything much easier, so for us its a takeaway on Christmas Eve and leftovers on Boxing Day. But will be cooking for 12 on christmas day so don't feel guilty at all. Sorry not much help or inspiration

Taffeta · 23/12/2012 20:54

Sausage rolls, mince pies, crisps, crudities, dip on Christmas Eve.

Boxing Day we have 12 people - ham, turkey, beef, stilton sauce, cheeses, salads, bread, crackers, quiche, gravadlax, little sausages. Mince pies, Xmas cake, Yule Log, stollen. Explode.

Snowkey · 23/12/2012 21:15

Peking duck for Christmas Eve. Left overs for boxing lunch, steak for dinner.

chocolateshoes · 23/12/2012 21:24

shepherd's pie Christmas Eve for lunch as we're at a party with nibbles etc early evening - have some homemade parsnip soup in the freezer I can get out if the nibbles are thin on the ground!. Boxing day at my parents, so not sure.

cafebistro · 23/12/2012 21:29

For Christmas Eve we're having Pulled pork with crusty rolls and salad. For boxing day we'll be having cold roast ham with pickles, onions, cheeses, salad, anything leftover really.

inchoccyheaven · 23/12/2012 21:36

Always Indian takeaway on Christmas eve and we have family round for boxing day afternoon so it is buffet and choccys as nibbles. In fact not just boxing day but for the rest of the week I hope Grin

Terrywoganstrousers · 23/12/2012 21:37

Xmas eve we are having a fish pie which I have pre-made and frozen so just need to whack in oven.

Boxing day we are having the following, buffet stylee:

Cold turkey
Cold ham (slow cookered tomorrow with brown sugar)
Bread / crackers / oatcakes
Cheeseboard
Pickles+ cornichons
Pate
Salad
Hardboiled eggs
Smoked salmon
Cheese straws
Sausage rolls
Mini quiches
Olives
Feta cheese
Nuts
Crisps
Tortilla chips
Dips
Those yummy mini peppers stuffed with marscapone

Mince pies
Trifle
Christmas cake
Leftover Christmas pud

It does look a lot, have I overdone it?!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/12/2012 21:38

As always, takeaway Pizza on Christmas eve, then cold turkey plus cold Gammon with bubble and squeak and pickles on Boxing day.

Actually on second thought, the family can fend for themselves Boxing day.

I'm inviting myself to TWTs Grin

Terrywoganstrousers · 23/12/2012 21:53

Bitterandtwisted- only if you are a midwife as I am 39 weeks pg!

inchoccyheaven · 23/12/2012 21:53

TWT you can never over do a buffet Grin I daren't even start to list my buffet, not even sure it will all fit on the table Blush

Terrywoganstrousers · 23/12/2012 21:56

It probably won't look as impressive on the table Grin
I'm hoping to be in labour anyway, unless that happens tomorrow (avoiding possibility it may be Christmas day as I have foolishly agreed to host the big day and have 7 to cook for (or DP may be cooking Wink)

Terrywoganstrousers · 23/12/2012 21:56

(i meant my buffet not looking impressive btw, not yours Blush)

Christmas Eve lunch is a buffet of quiche, blinis, pate, cheese, fruit, nibbles, mince pies etc. Evening is roast beef & basic trimmings.

Boxing Day will be another buffet of salad, nibbles, some leftovers, fruit andlemon drizzle cake for lunch, perhaps one of the fish pies or curries I've made & frozen for the evening (depending on whether our guests will be here, and what everyone feels like eating).

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/12/2012 22:18

TWT - I have read all the James Herriot books - does that count?

You are all making me hungry Sad

ujjayi · 23/12/2012 23:57

Christmas Eve is usually Shepherds Pie. Boxing Day is a buffet involving me emptying the fridge and cupboards and letting everyone help themselves (although hopefully not the cat).

This year we are having our Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve and then a swish buffet on Christmas Day. Boxing Day I shall be skiing so hopefully stuffing my face with tartiflette washed down with vin chaud :)

Arachnophobe · 24/12/2012 00:02

We had roast pigs arse and cabbage except I forgot the cabbage in the hell hole that was Tesco today we had to have peas doh today and will use the leftover for xmas eve ham, egg and chips. Would do devillled turkey in Boxing Day but it's just the five of us this year and they want beef for xmas dinner so probably roast beef sandwiches for boxing lunch and a little buffet for tea. I agree with bubble and squeak boxing Day morning with eggs. I fancy salmon now though for boxing day but not going back to frigging supermarket again Also just hoping for good health especially the DCs as it's all gone a bit wrong and food has not been top of the
agenda - Happy Scoffing.

Terrywoganstrousers · 24/12/2012 00:23

Bitter- what's one more onlooker?

woopsidaisy · 24/12/2012 07:08

We usually have friends over on Christmas Eve. I do a beef and chestnut casserole. But we are going to them this year. St Stephens Day leftover ham and turkey sandwiches. Also have party food nibbles from M & S. And lots and lots of chocolate!Xmas Grin

LtXmasEve · 24/12/2012 07:14

Chinese takeaway tonight and leftover turkey with naice ham, bubble and squeak, salad, pickles etc on Boxing day. On 27th I'm doing the gammon in coke thing for the first time.

COCKadoodledooo · 24/12/2012 08:28

We're having Asian style whole sea bream from Jamie's 15 minute meals for supper tonight. Ds1 is cooking with me and I'm really looking forward to it.

Boxing Day we're off to my folks' and are having the full on turkey dinner with them and my dsis and family. Tomorrow will be a day of grazing on party-nibbly-buffet type food (spring rolls, samosas, bhajis, salad, deli stuff etc.).

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 24/12/2012 08:30

Always have my lot over Christmas Eve and they've requested a jacket potato station. Spuds, chilli, sausages etc etc.

CrackleMauve · 24/12/2012 09:28

Pizza for dinner tonight, the supermarket pizza express ones. Boxing Day will be all the good leftovers from Christmas dinner (love cold pigs n blankets), plus mashed potato, pickles, either a pork pie or a game pie (I bought both in a fit of indecision) and salad. All in a help your self style.

I love Boxing Day lunch.
