I am! DS has gone to his Nanny's, DP is staying out of the way...I'm gonna have to blitz this house today. Not looking forward to it, but it has to be done!

Wondering if anyone else is the same as me today!?

yes, as after one day of school hols, there is not a clear surface or floor !

tittytittyhanghang · 22/12/2012 09:58

me :( but ds(2) will be under my feet most of the day! Least Ds1(12) will have sense to stay in his room out of my way. For some strange reason whenever i do housework i seem to get in a grumpy mood lol

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 22/12/2012 10:00

I blitzed kitchen and bathroom yesterday and changed the beds, today I'm doing the living room, all floors and dc bedroom. They usually do their own bedroom but ds toy box broke so need to buy more storage before Christmas!

Imflabulous · 22/12/2012 10:02

I have blitzed a room every day or so for last week in between work etc now just have kids rooms to do today (smug) its just keeping it that way that's the trouble.

ImperialSantaKnickers · 22/12/2012 10:05

DP did it yesterday!!!! My jaw nearly broke, dropping to the floor, when I came in.

Okay so on closer inspection I've discovered that the space under the stairs is rammed with unsorted random stuff, some of which is important and will need to hauled out again, but... wow!

Autumnalis · 22/12/2012 10:06

Sure, as soon as I get off MN :)

NoSoggyBottoms · 22/12/2012 10:47

Glad I'm not the only one then! Must stay off MN....and what a star your DP is Imperial!

Merry Cleaning!! Xmas Grin

lol at 'merry cleaning' I'll just sit here and watch you all I think!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 22/12/2012 11:03

I've done similar to imperial's dh - do not ever look in any of my cupboards for fear of being crushed by avalanching random crap!!

I had a Christmas party last weekend and had visitors yesterday so the house is looking reasonably presentable - clean/tidy enough for me not to feel guilty about lounging around the sofa Grin.

ShowOfHands · 22/12/2012 11:09

I've been building up to it for about 2 weeks. House is Normal Tidy atm. By the end of tomorrow it will be Christmas Tidy. I used to do it as a child too. My bedroom was immaculate for Christmas Eve. I do those jobs I never usually do like sugar soaping walls/skirting boards and moving the DVD chest (have to empty it first) and scrubbing the log burner until it gleams.

My aim is always that on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day/Boxing Day I can do sod all housework bar maintenance and it will look lovely. And when it comes to putting new stuff away, I don't have to find homes under old crap. It's a bit hard this year as DS is 15mo, clingy and in the way. Packet of wet wipes and an instruction to 'wipe something' though and he's happy for at least 20 minutes.

fluffywhitekittens · 22/12/2012 11:15

I'm trying...

MoomieAndFreddie · 22/12/2012 11:18

i really need to but just cant find the motivation

i know when i have done it i will feel GREAT though!

Viviennemary · 22/12/2012 11:20

I have been thinking all week about having a cleaning blitz but that's the closest I've got. Don't think it's going to happen now. Too near Christmas. Xmas Grin

MoreBeta · 22/12/2012 11:31

Yes did all day yesterday and a few hours left today now DW and DSs gone out to get MIL. Still have one bathroom to clean, drawing room to dust, whole kitchen to clean and all the floors to steam clean in bathrooms and kitchen.

I best get on with it

MoomieandFreddie My motivation is knowing that when it's done it will look good, I'll feel a sense of achievement sad but true and I can finally begin to enjoy Christmas! Motivation is always my weakness, but when I get going, I'm fine. Just enjoying a short break on MN...honest!

I'm also one who throws stuff in cupboards and in the bedroom if needs be. If people see my house looking great, no one needs to know! Surely everyone has a "dumping ground" somewhere in their homes?

Ok...back to it...

MoreBeta what steam cleaner do you have? That's on my Christmas list (that I'll have to buy myself after Christmas) so I'm curious to know which is a good model.

MrsMangoGingerbreadhouse · 22/12/2012 12:00

I have 2 rooms to sort today and 1 tomorrow, they all look like a bombs hit them, I figured there wasn't much point getting them done early as DH DD would have happily trashed them again. I've got almost all my food in various stages of prep though, so it's only the last little bits of wrapping, the tidy/cleaning, and making the cheesecake, left to go. Then we can make mince pies and trash the kitchn again! Xmas Grin

MrsMangoGingerbreadhouse · 22/12/2012 12:02

NoSoggyBottoms, we have a dumping room. If I get the rest of the house clear and clean, then sorting out that room can be my NY resolution.

SomebodySaveMe · 22/12/2012 12:02

I'm supposed to be blitzing. I'm currently checking that the coffee is good enough to offer to guests and eating the contents of the fridge to make room for turkey.

Florin · 22/12/2012 12:02

We have done it this morning in preparation for family lunch today. Have finished all of it apart from hovering landing and stairs as ds asleep. Hoping he wakes up in a minute so I can quickly run the handheld dyson over them.

sausagesandwich34 · 22/12/2012 12:02

I'm having a blitz, paid the girls a fiver each to get so they are fighting over the hoover vs the steam mop

they've done a bathroom each don't we sound posh I've done the living room and kitchen and we are all hitting bedrooms this afternoon

and then we will settle down to watch a christmas movie if we can find one that everyone can agree on

BabylonElf · 22/12/2012 12:05

I'm thinking about it!! Does that count?

HomeEcoGnomist · 22/12/2012 12:07

Am putting away laundry, doing more washing and changing beds. Don't mind washing but the other two are my least favourite chores. No presents wrapped, still some to buy. Not my most organised year...

And I am getting a sore throat. any top tips for getting rid of the lurgy before it properly sets in?
