What exactly is it you are baking?

I don't do anything apart from the Christmas Ham thing on Christmas eve, and that is it til the big lunch.

Well, I've made mince mies, sausage rolls and cheese and onion 'sausage' rolls, cheese stars, fudge, a mushroom wellington for me to eat on Christmas Day and some cardamon and orange biscuits which is still in dough form in the freezer.

whomovedmychocolate · 20/12/2012 15:30

Cheese shortbread, chocolate truffles and maple toffee vodka.

msrisotto · 20/12/2012 15:32

Tomato Rosemary palmiers a la Lorraine pascale, cake pops and soon to make two choc tart type puddings.

PottedShrimp · 20/12/2012 15:32

oh it all sounds so nice, I really ought to bake something myself sometime. Are you both bakers all year round or do you just like to do this sort of thing at christmas?

OP posts:
SilverAndSparklyKat · 20/12/2012 15:43

So far in the freezer..
Bread sauce, cranberry port and orange sauce, black pudding and apple stuffing. And mince pies. The christmas cake is ready to go too.
Yet to come....
Cheese straws, pistachio biscuits, shortbread, gingerbread decorations. I am busy in the kitchen this week.

PottedShrimp · 20/12/2012 15:44

Is this just for your family or because you are having a load of people round. I feel guilty.

Just taken 24 bakewell mince pies out of the oven, making honeycomb ice cream tomorrow

PeppermintonCandyCane · 20/12/2012 16:12

sparklykat your stuffing sounds good - can you share the recipe please?

I'm baking marzipan shortbreads, a yule log, a ham.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 20/12/2012 16:17

Aargh.
Sausage rolls! I knew I'd forgotten something.

craftynclothy · 20/12/2012 16:22

So far I've done:
some fudge - 3 trays but the two with Baileys in didn't set so Dh has been eating it with a spoon Xmas Grin
skittle vodka
sponge buns with icing and sprinkles for Dd2's class party
mince pies for Dh and pastry squares for me Blush

Just need to bake a new batch of mince pies on Sunday or Monday. Being lazy with other stuff and buying ready made.

wonkylegs · 20/12/2012 16:24

Gingerbread biscuits, Cranberry & Apple Spice Cake in lieu of trad. Xmas Cake, mince pies, chocolate dinosaurs for presents, jars of gingerbread & shortbread, cranberry & brandy ice-cream to eat with more shortbread (big family meal), Rudolph choc chip cookies with cherry noses for school party, stollen & truffles for more presents.
I do bake all year round but I've had more time this year.

BringUsSomePigleyPudding · 20/12/2012 16:34

Star shaped Marshmallows as part of the teachers presents (Hot choc pack)

This mornings bake was Baklava for my Dad for xmas as he loves the stuff!

sybilvimes · 20/12/2012 16:37

Ooh, cheese straws people, could you let me have your recipe?

Mine are always too floury and disappointingly uncheesey. Ta!

BooCanary · 20/12/2012 16:43

I'm very uncreative at Xmas (think paxo and bistro Xmas Blush ), but have made Xmas cake, mince pies and will be making cake pops on Saturday with dcs.

Helenagrace · 20/12/2012 17:05

So far I've made mince pies for us, cranberry and white chocolate fudge for DD's teachers, Christmas rocky road for DS's teachers, vanilla sponge for DD's class party and chocolate cake with Baileys frosting for DH's staff.

This weekend I will make more mince pies, sausage rolls, pesto and Parmesan palmiers, peppermint creams, marshmallow fudge, Turkish delight with kirsch, chocolate truffle torte, lime and ginger cheesecake and a couple of quiches.

I bake all year because I find it very relaxing.

msrisotto · 20/12/2012 17:55

It's customary in my family for Xmas and boxing day to be at my mums and aunts house and for my sister and I to bring puddings, hence all the desserts. My sister is also doing a day hence the palmiers. Cake pops and tiffin are for presents, as are jars of chutney I did at the beginning of the month.

msrisotto · 20/12/2012 17:56

I am very interested in recipes for bake well mince pies and cranberry and white chocolate fudge!!!

Helenagrace · 20/12/2012 18:21

The cranberry and white chocolate fudge recipe is from the Tesco website. You can soak the cranberries in vodka too!

msrisotto · 20/12/2012 18:35

Wow He,ena! That looks amazing! And easy too, thanks!

MsElleTow · 20/12/2012 18:45

This weekend I shall do mince pies, shortbread, jam tarts and Christmas Muffins. I shall, also, do a chocolate fudge cake for DS2's birthday on Christmas Eve.

I've done the Christmas cake, and done a Dundee cake because we wanted one not iced this year. I've also got mince pies in the freezer.

I bake all year round. I like doing it. I can't work, so it gives me something to do!

redwellybluewelly · 20/12/2012 19:21

I've done the Christmas cake and a dozen mincepies which DH scoffed. Tomorrow/weekend I will make MORE mincepies, sausage rolls, English muffins for Christmas day breakfast, gingerbread and salt dough for DD to 'bake' with me.

I bake for two reasons, first because I enjoy it and second because DD has a restricted diet so I can ensure she is completely included in nibbly afternoon teas etc. It's miserable when everyone else is eating seasonal goodies and she has to have a rice cake or a bread roll!

I also think home baking tastes better. This year though I am buying in stuffing and pigs in blankets once I've checked ingredients!

Zwitterion · 20/12/2012 20:47

I've made a gingerbread house, gingerbread biscuits, chocolate Florentines, rocky road and peppermint creams. All with DD (3).

Although forgot to put the mint in so they're just creams ATM Blush. Will dip in minty chocolate and hope no one notices.

Also icing Christmas cake- made a frozen pond using melted glacier mints (top tip from another thread). It's ace!

Tomorrow is cheesy marmite wheels and something with marzipan.

Saltire · 20/12/2012 20:54

I have made mince pies - all in the freezer (60 in total)
2 gingerbreads
2 tea loaves
a chocolate sponge (frrezer)
rocky road (hidden in tin in garage) and am thinking of making some chees straws, would lvoe a good recipe if anyone has one

IMasticateMincePie · 20/12/2012 20:55

wonkylegs could I bother you for the cranberry and apple spice cake recipe please? :)

I haven't done much, just a massive load of Danish vanilla cookies. They were so good. I have eaten faaaar too many Xmas Blush

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 20/12/2012 20:58

mince pies - we need a dozen every couple of days because of DH visitors
still not decided on Christmas Day pudding, possibly sticky toffee, so that will need making
cake is being fed
cheese stars and rocky road to be made on boxing day for MIL's party.
