Something for SIL, £20, but expensive for what it is IYSWIM

So I want to get her something she wouldn't buy herself, something that with 20 quid I can get a top of the range thing.

So for example, if she were into wine, £20 would be a great budget, but she's not a drinker really.

She doesn't wear a lot of make up, or else that would be an option (she's naturally stunning without!)

any ideas?

Beautiful Jo Malone or Ren shower gel maybe? I normally buy the ones on special offer in the supermarket, so if someone buys me a really nice one a) I am pathetically grateful and b) I think happy things every morning in the shower. But I couldn't justify spending it on myself

Rooobs · 12/12/2012 09:12

oh yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for! How much are they? I'll go and look.

A candle from The White Company - my 'go to' gift in those circumstances!

GoldQuintessenceAndMyhrr · 12/12/2012 09:30

The Geranium Shower gel from Arran Aromatics is divine. As is the Geranium and Lavender hand cream in a pot, with a handwritten label on.... Arran Aromatics

KnittingSnowMum · 12/12/2012 09:32

I just had this with DH's aunt. I got the Shea butter hand cream from l'occitane - at £18.50 it's certainly not something I would normally buy, but they wrapped it beautifully and it looks lovely!

LoopsInHoops · 12/12/2012 09:34

Is she into that sort of thing? Because brand doesn't register with me, and anything scented will go straight to the charity shop.

ENormaSnob · 12/12/2012 09:36

I would like...

Expensive nail varnish (opi would be my choice)
Shower or bath stuff.
Scarf, gloves or hat.
Purse (check tkmaxx)
Hair stuff
Socks or tights
Nice lip balm
A nice pen or keyring

thegreylady · 12/12/2012 10:12

I'd try TKMaxx for a bargain-they have some lovely Calvin Klein stuff on special and some Ralph Lauren scarves well under your budget but with much higher RRP.

spottymoo · 12/12/2012 10:35

Milton brown hand cream I ordered some off line with a code I got on here got it for £10 odd gift boxed with delivery looks really nice Grin

BendyBobsBrusselsSprouts · 12/12/2012 10:37

I was going to suggest TLMaxx too. You can get a lot for your money in there regarding a quality gift. They do some gorgeous soaps, boxed candles and reed oil bottles.

GoldQuintessenceAndMyhrr · 12/12/2012 10:41

Norfolk lavender also has really lovely stuff.

I have gone for Norfolk Lavender and Arran Aromatics this year for quality luxurious body care as they use good ingredients, pure aromatic oils, and are locally produced, and small brands as opposed to White Company which I find extortionate and really heavily scented - smells of cheap soap to me.

I also like Neals Yard and L'Occitane, though. I love l'Occitane Rose hand cream. Smells and feels lovely.

GoldQuintessenceAndMyhrr · 12/12/2012 10:43

You can also get a lot of overpriced crap in TkMaxx this time of year, gift boxes in garish colours. Who'd pay £5 for a mini set of tiny Baylis and Harding shower gel in purple with gold embellishment?

TeeBee · 12/12/2012 10:44

Have you tried Cox and Cox? Housey things in there nice (and overpriced).

ifso · 12/12/2012 10:46

amazon doing good priced handbags atm - lots of cath kidston/leather/various fossil bags which may not be 20 quid, but worth searching for a bargain, and they will deliver it giftwrapped to your sister's house if need be

tasmaniandevilchaser · 12/12/2012 10:48

Uniqlo are doing orla Kiely scarves for a tenner, if she's into that sort of thing.
