What's the oddest thing DC have asked for, and did they get it?

Years ago DS asked for a yellow suit. Was v young & couldn't describe it but wanted it for months.
I bought him some thermal longjohns & a vest & dyed them bright yellow with dylon along with a pillow case that I attached as a cape. I got some red felt and cut it into his initial & attached it to the front with wonderweb.
He was delighted with it on Christmas morning & then never wore it Confused
DD has asked for a diamond maker this year - I've told her if she manages to get one I'd quite like a few diamonds myself.

A few years ago dd wanted "a pig on a lead called John". Randomness. She got one, not a real one though.

Jingleflobba · 02/12/2012 16:57

DS wants cellotape. He's 12 and has many paper based projects (mainly stadium designs)on the go which apparently need cellotape. So he's getting a couple in his sack. And just in case he looks too eccentric he also asked for Fifa 13 and an ipad...
DD1 wanted a donkey one year because it was christmas and donkeys are all about christmas.. Someone got the wrong end of the nativity stick I think!!

Jingleflobba · 02/12/2012 17:00

cometandcupid at Halloween TKmaxx sold hello kitty halloween pasta, maybe try in there and see if they're selling christmas shaped stuff?

Homebird8 · 02/12/2012 18:41

DS1 when he was 5 asked Santa for a 'fixed crane'. Turns out the string on his wooden crane was broken inside and he was upset about it.

Luckily, Grandpa knew one of Santa's elves the man in the village with a large sleigh lightset flying up the gable end of his house and the crane was ceremoniously handed to Grandpa to give to the elf. It must have been magic because a 'fixed crane' was redelivered by Santa a week later at Christmas Xmas Smile

DS once asked for a "Villa in Spain with a swimming pool". DH ordered one of those 'letters from Santa' on the internet which said that Santa didn't think he could stretch to the villa but felt sure he would leave lots of presents that DS would enjoy instead'.

Crikeyblimey · 02/12/2012 19:44

My brother once asked for a really big roll of Sellotape and nothing else! He did get one (he got some other things too).

Ds (when aged 7) asked for a Russian phrase book. He got one and carried it wherever he went for ages. We didn't go to Russia though (much to his disappointment).

AngryFeet thank you Thanks. Unfortunately DD thinks the most important feature of a telescope is the tripod stand bit (her Grandad is a bit of an amateur astronomer and his telescope is on a stand). She may have to have a camera on a tripod instead Xmas Grin

we3kingsoforientRaahh · 02/12/2012 19:48

Crikey- DD1 is always very happy with a roll of asking tape. She can do amazing things with masking tapeXmas Grin

Skeleton people - the science museum shop (also only) do a small hanging glow in the dark one. Dd has bought it for my mum - odd I know but I thought it would tickle my mum. Dd is 1 so not aware she has bought it.

Parrot person - bet you can can one of those toy parrots which record what you say then play it back. I had one 25 years ago

JessieEssex · 02/12/2012 19:54

My DD would like some stickers and a sheep Xmas Grin.

I might have to go overboard on the stickers and hope she forgets the sheep...

Peanutbutterfingers · 02/12/2012 19:57

DS 2.10 would like a ladybird. Not a toy one. A proper one to go in his pocket

I was soooooo looking forward to making his first Christmas wish come true

1978andallthat · 02/12/2012 20:17

Last message re science museum should have said also online.

Six sides bouncy thing bigger than mummy. Some kind of space hopper?

Teddybare - that personalised playmat is brilliant. I have done all my shopping this year but am totally getting that for dd and dnephew next year, if I remember.

MisForMumNotMaid · 02/12/2012 20:32

peanutYou can get live ladybird kits for observing them but its normally late spring through summer when the live ladybirds are available to order, late birthday present possibility for spring? (I think they hibernate, that's why you get bug hotels). You might be able to get a non-native but I don't suppose living in a 2 year olds pocket is that practical.

My DC used to have toy ladybirds in a nut. The nut was hollowed and hinged in the middle. When you opened it the wings and legs all giggled to make it look real. Would that sort of thing come in as an alternative for a child with imagination?

Peanutbutterfingers · 02/12/2012 21:09

Misformum thank you, great ideas. Birthday in march so def a possibility. I remember the nutty bug things, will have a google.

No doubt he will have completely forgotten by Christmas. And I am sure his lovely castle with furniture and figures will be completely ignored for the curly straw and his very own toddler scissors.

narmada · 02/12/2012 21:20

chippyminton just reading through this prior to posting what I thought was DD's entirely novel present desire - packet of Blu Tack - only to find your child also asked for this Confused. How very odd!

GrimmaTheNome · 02/12/2012 21:26

DD wanted Madagascan hissing cockroaches last year. I'd have let her have them if she researched their habits and could persuade me that she would look after them and work out what to do with them when we were on holiday (she was 12 then so feasible). DH absolutely vetoed them though.

Today in Pets at Home buying the dog's xmas pressies she said she'd like a rat.Hmm

HeadfirstForAMistletoeKiss · 02/12/2012 21:50

Rats are ace pets to keep. I don't fancy the cockroaches though Xmas Grin

Verugal · 02/12/2012 22:00

2yo Dd wants birthday cake for baby deesus with pink icing and candles and sweeties on top.

We are not very religious types (although do go to church) so not sure where it came from.

bryonywhisker · 02/12/2012 22:01

friend's dd (4) wants 'a loaf of bread in case we run out' Xmas Confused

UniS · 02/12/2012 22:27

A boot jack. Yes. DS aged 4

zipzap · 02/12/2012 23:05

when ds1 was about 2 1/2 we were in the supermarket toy section so I asked him if he had any ideas about what he wanted for christmas, thinking that he was bound to see something he wanted.

He dragged me out of the toy aisle and back to the home stuff - where he pointed at the hoovers on display. He wanted a full sized wet and dry vax and a full sized dyson Grin

Needless to say he didn't get either but he's always been allowed to use the real hoovers I have at home which he loves - and now he is 7 he's a dab hand at hoovering - if he's been a good boy he's allowed to do some hoovering Grin - what I call a win-win situation! And if he's been really good he's allowed to do mopping (it's usually him begging to do it and me being the miserable one that can't be arsed doesn't think it is necessary!

:)

ripsishere · 03/12/2012 06:52

DD asked for, and I am afraid to say I looked into African pygmy hedgehogs. I wouldn't mind, but miseryguts the voice of reason DH pointed out we may move. Again.
In the past she has wanted her own man, some tinsel, a tortoise, a tiger and elephant - TBF we were living in Thailand where they are pretty common, some sand and, best of all; we moved to a flat with a garden. She said, with a sigh of contentment 'at last I can ask Fr Xmas for a horse or a cow'.
She got neither.
