I desperately need to get a present for my nephew, but am truly stuck!

He has all the gadgets imaginable and likes cricket but has everything you can possibly think of...

What do your 8 year olds want this year?

OP posts:

Hexbug spider? Two for £15 at argos. Addictive!

bodiddly · 28/11/2012 17:00

How much do you want to spend?

wfrances · 28/11/2012 17:04

tech decks skateboards
mini bmx/scooters
david walliams book boxset

PoppyAmex · 28/11/2012 17:06

Thanks for taking the time - off to google all that!

Bodiddly around 60-65 pounds; do you have a suggestion?

is he into computer games? mine loves skylanders, totally obsessed with it!
or a scoooter
lego always popular
star wars stuff

imtheonlyone · 28/11/2012 17:18

Skylanders are big this year
A scooter or ramp for scooter/skateboard
Lego, Lego, Lego
Does he play football? My lad is a massive footy fan - now owns everything liverpool! Wallet, boot bag, normal bag, swimming bag, shin pads .... Etc!!
Horrid Henry books
Agree anything Star Wars

ObiWan · 28/11/2012 17:19

Some of the new LOTR/The Hobbit Lego might be good.

He may not have had time to aquire any yet.

deleted203 · 28/11/2012 17:21

I think my best suggestion would be to ask his mum what he wants. It's all very well us suggesting things our little chaps like - and I agree that Skylanders are popular, as are Skateboars/Scooters - but it's no use buying him something he has already got or that duplicates something his parents/Santa is buying. Ask Mum what he would like for around the £60 mark.

deleted203 · 28/11/2012 17:29

'Skateboards' not 'Skateboars'....although that has given me a lovely mental image!

bodiddly · 28/11/2012 17:38

Another vote for skylanders here. Also the new wonderbook book of spells if they have a ps3. A football goal, scooter ... The list is endless but £60 is a generous amount so I would definitely check with his family. Skylanders would be the obvious choice!!

Doshusallie · 28/11/2012 19:50

Guinness book of records
drum machine thing from toyshop.com
mine really wants a toy machine gun (sigh) so have got him one of those with an army helmet and army vest (sigh again)

fruitcorner · 28/11/2012 19:57

Nerf gun. But as you are spending so much money it would be a shame to get it wrong so agree, I would ask his mum for suggestions.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 28/11/2012 20:11

My 8 yr old wants lego, lego and more lego. His room already looks like the lego shop.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 28/11/2012 20:18

Mine is 8 in January, has asked for Lego Ninjago, and Monopoly Millionaire. We have lots of Nerf. His parents wouldn't thank you for Nerf though.

melodyangel · 28/11/2012 20:19

How is he with computers? You could get him a raspberry pie and download scratch on it for him to have a play around with.

Telescope

Microscope

Or how about tickets to watch the cricket at Lords or other fun day out for the two of you.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2012 20:19

Mine is obssessed with Moshi Monsters but you really wouldn't want £60 of Moshi stuff. i doubt he'd have a clue what Skylanders is though.

He's not into lego, or Star Wars or quote a few things mentioned above either, but loves football and Fomula 1, loves his F1 DS game. A subscription to Match of The Day comic would be good. Football goal nets have been a huge hit here, anything football related in fact.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/11/2012 20:23

Hot Wires electronic set (or primary Plus electronic set which is way cheaper)
Lego
Scalextric

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2012 20:25

I was about to say electronics kit, we got this one Primary Plus 2 but shopped around and got it for £24.99 from TopToyBox, they are out of stock now though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2012 20:26

Was it you Norbert that suggested TopToyBox on the otheer thread a few weeks ago? Bargain!

melodyangel · 28/11/2012 20:28

WhoKnows - Have you taken your DS to Goodwood? It's super for F1 nuts.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/11/2012 20:28

Yes it was me -a fantastic bargain, no wonder they sold out. Glad you benefited too though Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2012 20:30

Not yet Melody, the F1 obsession is relatively recent. Which meetings are good, they seem to have lots on there, we may well give it a go next year, it's not too far from us. When we were little my DB was into it and my Dad used to take him to Thruxton, which is also not far away.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/11/2012 20:31

Thanks Norbert - it was really good timing, I had been looking at them on Amazon and shopping around, but not found it anything like that cheap. The powe of MN!

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 28/11/2012 20:32

Mine wants a telescope or the 50 quid electric guitar which is now out of stock at johnlewis thnaks to the Guardian gift guide. Tsk.

melodyangel · 28/11/2012 20:32

We went to the festival of speed but would love to go to Revial when every one gets dressed up, it looks like a right hoot!
