Fab. Am currently crocheting an elf! Would love to send my kids a letter like that where did you get it from, fantastic idea!

I made a blog for Elf last year and intend to continue it again this year when he arrives next weekend.

That reminds me to send for him from the North pole Get the box down from the attic! :)

Experienced Elfers, what do you do about moving the elf when your child is up? I.E. I want to leave our Elf on one of our Xmas toys - I've got them out of storage and the Elf is delivering them in the morning - but how do we move him, if he's not allowed to be touched

I'm not making much sense am I. Sorry, tired. If we leave him on the train, then DD can't play with the train, so how to we move him if DD is there?

I hope someone understands what I'm trying to ask

& I really like both those blogs

kate, I made it all myself. I got this picture, put it on word and added the text on top. Also, when you google 'santa stamp' you'll get a few so I printed that with our address on an envelope. Last year I used this background. Really easy to do and I was able to truly personalise the letter to DS.

MrsDimples, throughout the day the elf just moves to random places in the house. He doesn't do anything special as he does over night, but he just plays a bit of hide and seek. Well, that's the rule we made up as we had the same dilemma. Obviously he only moves when the child isn't watching as he can't be seen using his magic
At the moment, Jingle is still in his spot from last night, but when I take DS upstairs later to get him dressed I'll just quickly move him to another spot. And then again when he naps etc.. At least it means you can break up the 'night scene'.

If Elf has been cheeky and ends up somewhere inappropriate. ie having a tea party on the lounge floor then once the girls have spotted him I am allowed to pick him up and move him to somewhere safe... usually onto the shelf (as in Elf on the shelf! :) to watch over them )

I don't think I'm going to implement the no touching thing. Sounds like a pita.

If you don't the no touching rule you can't watch the film though as he gets really poorly after being touched by the boy. Hence I invented the rule of him moving from shelf to fireplace to wherever throughout the day as in he moves around by magic to be in different rooms.

Is the film good? Is it very geared towards having an official EOTS?

Our Elf got the Christmas toys out of storage last night and was playing with the train when he was 'found' this morning. The wow & newness of the toys, meant DH could easily move the Elf onto 'the shelf' without DD noticing. He's also managed to convince her he flew up their

We watched the film a few times yesterday, so really didn't want anyone to be seen touching the elf. The film is OK, it reinforces the don't touch, 'believing' and explains the elves role etc. It is a sweet, short film. All the elves look like the official EOTS ones, but Father Christmas looks different in all films, books etc. doesn't he.

Now it's time to decide on tonight's move.

Yes, true, I suppose Santa does look different, and he is one man, whereas there are lots of elves!
Why though, are they thinking children shouldn't touch the elf? Will the doll fall apart?

I think the no touching adds to the magic. I know if the girls could just play with him then the novelty would soon wear off and he would become another toy as opposed to Santa's magical elf.

I agree, I think if the elf was played with like a toy it wouldn't be as magical. Also, if they very attached it might be quite distressing when he has to leave. I think someone linked to that on a different thread.

The Xmas toys are Fisher Price Little People. I got them off Ebay last year. They've been the source of much amusement today.

The elf is sat on the table with a dessert fork, a plate with final sliver of DH's birthday cake and a smudge of icing on his mouth

I haven't got round to watching the film yet although have bought it. Can I get away with adults being able to move him or not really? If not is it just a case of moving it when they're not looking as this sounds like a bit of a pain as DD2 isn't quite 2 yet and will not understand.

In the film nobody touches him, not even the adults. Once he is touched he is very poorly and can't fly back. His elf friends have to get him to North Pole hospital. DS didn't like that scene, he gets easily distressed and is so worried. Thankfully a happy ending

Can I ask if no-on can touch him how do you move him once DCs have found him each morning? Eg if I set him up to be having a picnic on the floor I wouldn't be able to leave him on the floor all day as Dd2 would get him whilst I'm not looking as she's too young to understand.... Ok if up high, but don't understand if down low...

If he's somewhere 'gettable' then we say that mum is allowed to move him back to sit on the fireplace/ shelf. It's children that will make him lose his magic as they are who he is watching.

Ok, we'll aim for the no touching thing. I think we'll have the approach that if the elf is in an in-the-way spot, we all have to leave the room to give elf some privacy to move. He doesn't like to be seen moving. Then an adult sneak back.

So far we've managed to move him when DD isn't around. Today he's still sat in the tree as I've not had chance to move him, but he's fine there out of the way

I've never done a blog before & it looked a little daunting, but I do want to record his activities so I've set up his Facebook page . If you want the address PM, me, as I've put photo's of DD messy house on it

It's only because DD2 is only 1.9 and a bit of a monkey, so will struggle to stop her touching it!!! Need to get myself organised tonight, letter, wrapping the few art and craft things and xmas books/dvds I've bought for elf to bring on random days. I'm very excited :).

First time I've come across a child in UK with same name as my DS!
