Do you and/or DCs wear new clothes on Xmas day?

Following on from the new jammies thing.

Do you get the DCs or yourself something new to wear?

I haven't in the past but quite like the idea of doing it. For the DCs maybe. Or maybe not.

Dcs get two sets of new clothes for Christmas day and boxing day. They also get new shoes. They have a budget of around 100 pound each. But this will be increased for the older two this year because they're teenagers now.

I will usually get something if there's any money left in the pot. Dh tends to put a shirt on but nothing new.

By the way, in this neck of the woods, its the norm that most dcs get one or two sets of clothes.

DS does, I don't.

Sirzy · 19/11/2012 08:57

but nowhere near £100, more like £10 from asda!

I know my DSDs (who spend Xmas with their mum, and have 'extra Xmas' with us on a nearby day) get a new dress every year for the day. I think it's a nice tradition :)

I have recently cleared out my DCs' clothes and DS especially is outgrowing everything.

My mum has fallen into the habit of getting DD a dress for her summer birthday each year, that is the only non-supermarket/charity shop clothing she gets, wouldn't hurt to have a wintery one as well.

I always get DH at least one t-shirt each Xmas anyway.

Another question - if you do the new outfit thing, do you wrap it up as part of the presents for Xmas morning?

No, I just have it for him to wear when he gets dressed. I am not sure at 3 he would be that interested in a new shirt!

scentednappyhag · 19/11/2012 09:26

We dress up on Christmas day, but not really new clothes especially for the occasion. I've usually run out of money by that point! Grin

OhTheConfusion · 19/11/2012 09:26

We all tend to get new outfits for Christmas, we then wear the knitwear my mum (always) buys us on boxing day! They have roughly £80-£100 budget each and reasonable 'free' choice.

We got the DD1 clothes on Saturday:
She got this for christmas day along with new sparkly baseball boots. Can you tell she choose her own?!? and this to wear with knee high boots and woolies on boxing day.

One down four to go!

OhTheConfusion · 19/11/2012 09:28

The christmas outfit she choose so will be in her wardrobe. I do wrap up what I choose for boxing day though.

Wishfulmakeupping · 19/11/2012 09:29

We all get dressed up but not new clothes, bit strange as OH's side don't so they must think I'm mad but my family dress up every year

MrsBucketxx · 19/11/2012 09:31

no something nice not new, it costs enough without new clothes ontop.

iseenodust · 19/11/2012 09:31

DS usually gets a jumper/top from Father Xmas Wink. DH will wear a shirt that may or may not be a present. I will make effort to wear a skirt/dress but it wont be new.

shrimponastick · 19/11/2012 09:35

No. We do tend to dress a bit more smartly than usual, as will be seeing other family members.

I had never heard of the new pyjamas stuff either before.

I usually buy the DC something new for over the Christmas period. For example, I will buy DD1 a new dress for her school Christmas party and she'll probably wear it on Christmas Day.

DewDr0p · 19/11/2012 10:53

We tend to dress up a bit - the dcs all like to wear a shirt Grin but they're not new. Last year I bought myself a nice dress and will probably wear that again this Christmas.

Blu · 19/11/2012 10:54

No!

InNeedOfBrandy · 19/11/2012 10:57

dd gets a winter dress and ds gets an outfit, both get new shoes.

They get other clothes as presents to, they love getting clothes and shoes so think getting new jeans or a top is amazing. Take the other day we went up the charity shop and they had £2 each to spend, ds got a light sabor and a top and dd bought herself jeans and a book instead of a toy. She was hard pressed to decide between jeans and a bag Grin

InNeedOfBrandy · 19/11/2012 10:58

The dress I got dd was £7.99 not the best dress ever but very christmassy I think.

The children do but it won't be something to dressy, so they can wear it throughout the year as well. They get pants and socks too.

Last year DS got a Mickey Mouse hoodie, top and tracksuit bottoms from Asda. DD (7 weeks) might get a pretty dress for christmas as she lives in babygrows and I want to dress her up at least once Blush.

HullyEastergully · 19/11/2012 11:01

We wear new clothes every day.

CheungFun · 19/11/2012 11:01

We don't bother and never have...Christmas clothes are nice comfortable clothes for eating lots and slobbing around on the settee all day - leggings for me :)

2anddone · 19/11/2012 18:14

We are home all over Christmas just me dh and the 2 dc. They get new pyjamas for Xmas eve and don't take them off til day after boxing day!! They bathe and put them back on, ds7 says he loves to stay in them as that means we are staying at home just the four of us!

racingheart · 19/11/2012 19:28

The cat usually gets them a cool or jokey tee shirt. They wear that on the day.

gregssausageroll · 19/11/2012 19:37

Nope. New pjs n Christmas eve and that is it. Ds got spiderman dress up as a present last year. He wore it for day's.
