I'd love to hear your suggestions. My ds is not the asking type and I never know what the other kids are asking for. DS is not sporty. He's very academic, loves maths, science, music, secret codes and cycling.

I warn you now, metal detectors mean digging. Lots of digging.

NorbertDentressangle · 25/10/2012 18:27

Thank you for the feedback about the Hot Wires -thats definitely going to be one of his presents. I just need to find a good deal on it somewhere.......

Arithmeticulous · 25/10/2012 18:34

It's a bit steep on Amazon, that hot wires. DS wants some John Adams fun plants kits, Monster lego, Geomag.

OVoodooZombiesEatYourBrains · 25/10/2012 19:09

A kindle. Got it for £55 new so pleased with my bargain.

Also lots of Lego, of course. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/10/2012 19:13

This physics set is the one I had seen recommended on another thread, it's got good reviews and is cheaper than the Hot Wires. Haven't looked at either in detail though.

Electronics

NorbertDentressangle · 25/10/2012 21:26

That looks fab -looks like the same sort of contents too I think but much cheaper.

Thank you

DS (8) has played a lot with his spy gear laser alarm

Was thinking about buying him a skateboard... He hasn't had one before and appears to have no natural balance at all..... any views on an easy one to start with ?

Doshusallie · 25/10/2012 22:22

Have bought loads of small things for ds1 (8)

Ship in a bottle (he collects them)
Hot water bottle with a skeleton on it
Skeleton glow in the dark pjs
Magicians set
Books
Wii game
DVDs
He has written his letter to father Xmas and has asked for a realistic sounding and looking machine gun and army vest with pockets [hsad]. Will probably get them for him as he really really wants them
He has also asked for wind in the willows which makes me feel a bit better

Dgd is buying him a remote control helicopter

wizzler · 25/10/2012 22:26

Dosh.. where are the glow in the dark PJs from ? They sound fab

Doshusallie · 25/10/2012 22:29

Amazon I think, let me check

Doshusallie · 25/10/2012 22:31

skeleton pjs

wizzler · 25/10/2012 22:35

Thank you!

DS has a birthday a few days after Christmas so this is the joint list for both events, for all the family!

Guinness Book of Records [theme developing]
Bop It
panto tickets
skateboard (a very cheap one)
skateboard safety pads etc
Am thinking about getting a lot of people to contribute to a trampoline. Does anyone have a 7ft one, any good? He's a tall lad for an 8-year-old.

The thing that ds has that he uses most at the moment are his rollerblades . I just got him cheapo ones from Toys R Us for his 6th birthday and it took a long time for him to get into them, but he uses them a lot now.

Hi. Apologies, can't do links, as bf'ing DS3 and only have left hand free! There is a website called Mulberrybush, we got the catalogue in recently. They have fab stuff, including spy stuff and code things. DS1 who is eight has mentioned them, they also have science/experiment kits. Lots of fun educational board game things too. Will do links in am if remember!

Are knex any good for this year group?

TheMummyBean · 15/11/2012 15:05

As well as stocking stuffed with goodies we always 'give up' the value of one of our DD's gifts and make a donation to charity with it on her behalf.

We think it is a good way to teach her the importance of giving to those less fortunate.

This year we will be doing so for The African Children's Choir who have a campaign called 'Give up a Gift for Africa'.

Just a £10 donation, but instead of that millionth DVD, our DD feels pride in helping others. They even send you a link to a Christmas Card that you can print off and put in her stocking, replacing the gift that would of been there - which is great for talking through with her how she has helped.

You can do so too here www.justgiving.com/give-up-a-gift-for-africa

elvisaintdead · 15/11/2012 21:35

I have 8 and 11 yr olds and they are getting a tv between them (share a room), new scooter each, the younger one is also getting skylanders giants, lego technics, hex bugs, watch, books (incl guinness book of records), and a few other bits and pieces for stocking. The older one is keen for a onesie, the younger one however thinks it's a babygro and doesn't want one!!

Flojo1979 · 15/11/2012 21:38

Netbook and printer.
Furby.
Bop it XT.
Lego.
Science set.
Roald dahl and Enid Blyton books.
Snap watch.
And that's it so far, just a few more stocking fillers.

difficultpickle · 15/11/2012 21:42

Ds (8) is getting a stunt scooter and a grigri (for climbing) plus a few small stocking fillers.

cathers · 15/11/2012 21:44

My 8 yr old is getting a couple of Lego sets, a build your own combustion engine, a wall mountable cd player/docking station speaker thing, a watch, 3ds game, books and a remote controlled helicopter plus stocking bits.

DewDr0p · 15/11/2012 21:57

My 8 yr old has asked for an ipod touch, FC was wavering a bit but is thinking of going for it.

Only really little stocking fillers otherwise as that is a major present from us.

Lego from GPs.

Does anyone have the Star Wars Operation game? DSil asking for ideas and might suggest it.

For his birthday he had a new bike, watch, Harry Potter Lego, Hexbug Nano set.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/11/2012 22:01

Nephews are 8 and live in Japan, we are going to see them for Christmas so I am looking at these ideas and looking for smaller things! Ideally too not just stuff they can get there.

One wants an England footie shirt with his name on, but that is far as we have got Wine

beingagoodmumishard · 15/11/2012 22:13

my DS who is 7 (but 8 soon after Christmas) has asked for Knex Mario Kart.

He has got a basic set but now wants to add some extras. Well he wanted the very expensive, recently added to the range, set which includes everything, but hopefully I have managed to persuade him that just a few extras will be just as good Grin

deemented · 15/11/2012 22:25

DS2 is 8 and will be getting...

A bike - he's dyspraxic and has just learnt to ride
Horrid Henry book set
Guiness Book of Records
Avengers wristbands
Avengers undies

Am contemplating getting him the Ripleys Believe It Or Not book, but am unsure yet.
