I think most people would agree that teenage boys are notoriously hard to buy for. So I thought I'd start a thread for mid range presents. Not Hawkins bazaar type stocking fillers. Decent presents which will be well received and useful.

Last year ds1 received;
Skullcandy headphones
A swiss army knife (with his name engraved on the blade)
Aftershave
A hoody
Smelly set from boots
Feckin Skyrim xbox game which to be fair, he is still playing.

These were all well received, especially the swiss army knife, which was a complete surprise to Ds.

This year I'm at a loss what to buy. All he wants more xbox games. His aunt and uncles will buy him one each and I think that's enough.

What is he into? If he's into skateboards or scooting you can get a huge range of parts that would make cool gifts.

He's not that bothered about names tbh. Although he will be able to choose what he wants for his Christmas clothes.

His biggest hobby is the army cadets and I've asked him to let me know if there is anything he wants or needs for that.

I just thorght if we all shared ideas that have gone down well it would give us fresh ideas and a decent pile of gifts under the tree

Oh good, I need ideas too! I'm going to go for an aftershave/ deodorant gift set thing as normal, maybe a tshirt each. I had thought about a watch or maybe sunglasses.

Can anyone recommend some DVD box sets for teenage boys?

I'm totally stuck too. It's his birthday today and he got a new phone so will get him some posh accessories for. that but everything else he would like seems to be connected to the Xbox which I'm trying not to encourage as e spends so much time on it.

Will do smellies and have got him a cookbook and a new dressing gown but I'm stuck for a main present.

DVDs what about The Inbetweeners or some classic 80s teen flicks. My dcs love Ferris Bueler's day off and The Breakfast Club.

DS isn't a label person either. He wouldn't recognise Hollister if it bit his bum.

Mines appear to be the only vain label-liking ones, but they also want Kleins and D&G boxers.

I've got a cadet as well (sea) - he wants some new boots as the ones he's been issued with he can't get shiny enough. He also wants some outdoor expedition type stuff - new sleeping mat and bag; ration packs hexi cubes and hexi stove - he wants to spend a day in the hols camping out in the garden cooking for himself.

Ooh dame there was a camping stove thingie that he wanted :) and he mentioned something about new boots too. I'm not sure if he wants a new pair to replace the ones he's got or an extra pair. He's also mentioned webbing, which I took as some of that army camoflauge netty stuff. Aparently not. It's a jacket type thing with loads of pockets :o

Do you know what I want. Something that will get the big reaction when the wrapping is pulled off and will keep them entertained for hours. Unless it comes In a Xbox case, its not happening is it :o :(

Assault vest (better than webbing for field craft), plus lots of extra pockets.
Their own Bivvy sheet, pack of bungee cords( DS says most useful)

Gadget show live tickets were DSs favourite thing last year. They were a complete surprise and he loved the anticipation as well

Ds already has lots of those things but not all of them. His mess tins were from B&M and I must admit, even after one annual camp, they are a bit rubbish. They scrape together when storing them.

Where do you find a waterproof notepad?

New canteen. Wind up torch. Hand warmers are the cadet related ones I can think of.

Under 17 driving lesson- various places do this off road, Breaking Bad DVD for older teens- v popular with ds1, posh ish headphones for gaming, Arsenal themed tat (maybe that's just my ds2) available from official online shop at huge prices or sports direct at more reasonable cost... More ideas gratefully received!

My DSSs loved their remote controlled helicopters last year - around £20 - £25 iirc.

Up here in Scotland all the boys want "Bawbags" which are a very funny range of boxer shorts (Ball bags). Dare I also mention books. My son always gets Guinness Book of Records and a paperback or two.

Although mine are older (20 and 17) I always buy them something childish - last year bought DS1 a silly Lego game, and a couple of packs of Lego mini figures. Lego was such a big part of his life growing up, and he loves it!

I'm always taking DS2 to task for how horribly violent all the X-Box games seem to be, so this year I've bought him the Lego version of Star Wars game. He's mad keen on Star Wars, as well as Lego, so that should go down well.

Other things that have gone down well have been personal grooming things, like hair dryers and a beard trimmer.

I usually buy them a couple of books, even though reading isn't either of their favourite thing.

And some lovely Hotel Chocolat goodies as well.

3 teenage ds's here so all stocking filler ideas welcome.

Generally my boys get various 'designer' boxers, socks and smellies. Those that shave will get shaving cream, razor etc.

DS1 has a clapped out banger car so gets bits for that- air fresher, can of oil, furry dice etc.

Ds2- various bits for cadets and Ds3, the footballer, shin pads, under armour etc.

They also get chocolates/jelly beans/nuts depending on preference and usually a comedy DVD.

Depending on what I find, joke books, calendars and something jokey too.

Flippin ' eck, they get loads! Although, its usually more or less the same every year so wonder if they are getting fed up?!
