....will be officially open for business on September 24th. I am just firing up the engines and dusting down the control room ready for action in case I forget to do it on the 24th

Do not post yet. Do not. Sit on your hands, ladies.

On your marks........................

I made a five pointed star last year for by the front door from red dogwood stems from the garden. It involved tying bunches of five equal length stems together at the ends of each bunch. Then I wound trails of ivy (also from the garden) around them but not so much as to obscure the lovely red stems.

Last year I embellished it with little gold onion baubles and a gold and hessian type bow, but this year I might go red and white and clear. I still have the star in the garage and it is in good nick to use again, obv with fresh ivy. It measures approx 50x50cms. An interesting alternative wreath.

And lastly, poor oreo's DD!

CiderwithBuda · 19/10/2012 16:47

This fell off my threads im on list. Maybe because I am not a proper poncer. Think I will be purchasing the ponce rather than creating it myself.

Fellatio - nightmare about the turkeys. Do any of the hotels do turkey? We have lived in countries where it was hard or impossible to get turkeys. We have often gotten them from one of the big hotels. Expat women's groups often have good relationships with one or more of the hotels and they might be able to order turkeys in for you.

HipHopOpotomus · 19/10/2012 20:10

Joining in - book ordered.

Here is recipe for the most fab thing I've ever made for Xmas:
Ma buche de Noel
It's an amazing, impressive looking and delicious pudding - and easy to make the day before too. Chocolate mousse, meringue, and poached pears rolled into a log.

IreneR · 20/10/2012 00:07

Well, this is all seeming more like it now. I was really distressed by the mention of h.o.l.i.d.a.y.l.o.o.r.o.l.l. I mean. Honestly.

The last couple of pages have restored my faith in the thread. And in the future of all things Poncetastic.

TeaOneSugar · 20/10/2012 10:41

Sorry, I think I raised the festive loo roll question Grin

FreeButtonBee · 20/10/2012 12:53

Not much poncing here chez FBB but we've just put sn offer in on a house. It would be awesome for Christmas poncing. It's a luffly victorian terrace with lots of original features and a humungous kitchen. I am trying not to get too excited but I really really want to get it.

love the willow/dogwood wreath-making ideeas. I had a lovely straw round wresth from Ikea that i tarted up with red ribbon but some bastard stole i from the front door. Might go for internal wreaths inside this year.

IreneR · 20/10/2012 14:23

Good luck on the house, FBB.

You will have raised the bar a bit on all of the rest of us, though -- buying a house for Christmas decorating shows dedication that puts finding the perfect kilner jar completely in the shade.

FreeButtonBee · 20/10/2012 14:34

LOL IreneR, yes, beat taht fellow poncers!

WineGless · 20/10/2012 14:57

I have bought material to make my own Christmas bunting, how's that ponders. Although I am never going to top FBB now goes on right move and waits for DH to come home to break news to him

girlywhirly · 20/10/2012 15:02

I hope you get the house, Free. Am envious. It takes a lot of ingenuity to ponce a 1980's house with no fireplace like mine, but fortunately DH is quite indulgent.

Also sorry your wreath was nicked. I have a small standard bay tree that my late FIL cultivated from a cutting in our back garden, but I don't want to put it by the front door in case it gets taken, and it obv has sentimental value for DH and I.

girlywhirly · 20/10/2012 15:12

Does it beat FBB if I have planted (years ago) specific shrubs and herbs in the garden for Christmas poncetasticity, i.e. fresh herbs, green holly, green and gold variegated holly, ivy, bay, and other evergreens for floristry purposes?

oreocrumbs · 20/10/2012 17:30

Oh girly I'm going to do that! Was just talking to DM about it this afternoon!

I'm also trying to get her to plant blackthorn around her new field so I can forrage from the comfort of her home but aparently I have further work to do on that issue!

Have already decided to plant some hydrangers in the back of my house because the ones in the front are getting ravaged by the wind, and that means no hydranger wresth this year!

Best of look FBB, I hope you get it!

FreeButtonBee · 20/10/2012 19:28

Oh, Girly, that sounds amazing. I am well jel.

Downside of poncy Christmas house is small garden (20ft) and given that I will soon (fingers crossed!) have twins, I don't fancy my chances of keeping it full of greenery for poncing purposes. More likely football and sandpits. But there is a small front garden and I am currently dreaming of planting it up with lots of different roses

Oh, found out the other week we are having a boy and a girl. V exciting. Though if one more person says "oh, that means you're done!" I will scream. Why is 1B/1G seen as some sort of pinnacle of breeding. Gah!

oreocrumbs · 21/10/2012 00:34

Congratulations! That's lovely news. Really hope you get the house you want too. And 10/10 for being a ponce while having twins and moving house!

I shall pass you the Wine when you are able!

LordFlasheart · 21/10/2012 09:06

Congratulations Bee!

Feeling a bit sucked into Halloween/Bonfire Night/Half Term atm so no poncing here at the moment.

Recent activity- I have deciphered DSs Christmas list and got my Amazon order ready for payday; and have made raspberry, sloe, & apple & blackcurrant gin. Still not sure about xmas vodka. What do you mix it with? Am prob too late anyway.

Shall step up the poncing after the half term break, kicking off with making garlands with the 1,000,000 pine cones DS has collected- need to decide on style- probably red ribbons. Off to pinterest again Grin

girlywhirly · 21/10/2012 15:52

Congatulations, FBB! Perhaps the holly would be a bit hazardous for toddlers learning to walk and falling into it!

LordF, you can dab the tips of the 'ribs' on the cones with glue and dip in iridescent glitter for a delicate frosty look. You could also make some of them into a wreath if you can make a base to ecure them on to.

girlywhirly · 21/10/2012 15:53

.....or even secure them on to!

VoldemortsNipple · 21/10/2012 18:55

Fear not, Christmas toilet roll can be poncy after all.

Introducing www.thedesignertoiletrollcompany.com :)

Sorry can't link on my phone.

BiddyPop · 22/10/2012 16:07

I got DD and DH's PJs for Christmas Eve over the weekend (DH's are nicely poncetastic and nordic, DD's are snowscene rather than Christmas but with slippers in bright pink that resemble Jester's boots!!). I spotted some nice ones for me (again, somewhat Nordic and tasteful) but couldn't face that q. I have plenty of time in that shop though.

Voldemort, I read that link as toile troll on first glance (this is ponciness central, after all!!). Haven't looked at it yet though.

WaitingForMe · 22/10/2012 16:35

We viewed our house in January FreeButtonBee and the seller had the fire going. DH took one look and said 'It's a Christmas house.' It both sold the house to me and confirmed that he was a good choice of husband. We had a Christmas wedding with the reception in our home eleven months later Grin

I've started planning a cutting garden and recently planted Alium bulbs that I'll harvest next autumn. GirlyWhirly has inspired me to go further with it!

girlywhirly · 22/10/2012 16:54

Thanks, Waitingforme! It makes such a difference to a winter garden to have shrubs that still have leaves, otherwise it could just be a mass of bare twigs and not very interesting.

I can't tell you how lovely fresh herbs are in homemade stuffing. We have parsley, sage and thyme which go into our stuffing for Christmas lunch.

HouseElfAtLarge · 22/10/2012 17:19

Oh waitingforme if only the man I chose would utter something so profound. I am jealous of both your Christmas house, and your husband.

WaitingForMe · 27/10/2012 14:09

Is nobody being poncetastic?

My Nana had the tradition of 'table presents' which I decided to do this year. The DSSs are getting a small Lego set (Cars 2), DM, MIL and SIL are getting these, FIL and DHs Grandparents are getting Chocolate and DH one of these. To be stacked under a mini tree in the dining room and given out between main course and dessert (so the kids sit quietly).

I'm too pregnant to be truly poncy and go for homemade gifts (for adults) but they have their own distinct wrapping scheme.

anja1cam · 27/10/2012 14:42

Ohh Waiting the beans are a GREAT idea! Must do a bit more shopping tonight :-)

Re: poncing I'm at the planning stage: Chutneys made and labelled (Christmas font of course) and wrapped - found some Sari fabric in golds and rich reds/oranges that was just PERFECT.

Food planning in full swing, and library books still being perused for inspiration.

Saw some nice 'rustic' and 'nordic' type decorations and accessories in Wilkinsons and in John Lewis (stationery dept for paper plates)

And now I'm focused on packing for half-term break that's probably also why it's quiet here.

girlywhirly · 27/10/2012 15:10

When DS was 3 we did 'Christmas baskets' instead of crackers for the lunch table. I made the baskets out of stiff card and DS stuck sequins all over them, then we wrapped a small present and a Thorntons truffle Yule log or Christmas pud in tissue to put in it. (DS had a choc lollipop instead) We labelled them and put them at each place setting.

My cousin had a knitted snowman which used to hold a small gift for everyone on the table when her DC were small.
