Just doing my Calendar for the next three/four months and realised the school holidays officially start on christmas eve this year. How crazy is that? Not quite sure how I am going to get Christmas organised this year without the week before hand to get ready.

OP posts:
NCForNow · 31/08/2012 16:18

Is that the case with everyone!?? I am tempted to keep mine off early then! Bloody awful!

BlackberryIce · 31/08/2012 16:19

Why is it awful?

NCForNow · 31/08/2012 16:20

Because it's CHRISTMAS! I don't want my DC in school right up until Christmas Eve! I want them home and having a good time.

NCForNow · 31/08/2012 16:21

Maybe Alder is a teacher? That makes it hard for her to shop....

Sidge · 31/08/2012 16:22

Mine break up on Friday 21st December this year.

cornybootseeker · 31/08/2012 16:23

I love the bit before xmas best - sitting in, snuggled up and watching crap films on TV. Poor kids.

2gorgeousboys · 31/08/2012 16:24

Mine break up on Friday 21 December too.

BlackberryIce · 31/08/2012 16:26

Yeah, Christmas starts on Xmas eve! They won't miss out. They will be suitably wound up from everything happening in school

BlackberryIce · 31/08/2012 16:26

There are weekends and evenings. Plenty of time

Ours finish fri 21st too. Plenty of time off

curmit · 31/08/2012 16:28

That doesn't seem right - isn't Christmas Eve a Monday? Why would they not finish Fri 21st?

CarpeJugulum · 31/08/2012 16:35

My MIL & BIL are teachers and have this issue; there was talk about them coming up for Christmas now DS will be 2 and aware(ish!) of what Christmas is about.

Doesn't look like they'll make it (but there is the option they sneak up and become a Christmas surprise...) Confused

MrsJohnDeere · 31/08/2012 16:36

Same here

piprabbit · 31/08/2012 16:42

OP - have you checked for inset days?
All the school in our county finish on the 21st.

Astr0naut · 31/08/2012 16:42

Ors in the 21st. However, this is teh earliest we've broken up in years.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 31/08/2012 16:44

mine finish on the 19th.

Each county has different dates so look at their website. If you're REALLY unfortunate you could be like my school who like to be awkward and choose different start/ end dates to other schools which results in no playscheme or after school care on those days Hmm

fivefoottwowitheyesofblue · 31/08/2012 16:45

The OP does not say that they don't break up til Christmas Eve, she says 'that the Christmas hols don't officially start til Christmas Eve'. I would also prefer them to finish earlier so they get v v v excited.

BlackberryIce · 31/08/2012 16:45

Go back 8th jan, so more time off after Christmas

Vagaceratops · 31/08/2012 16:58

I hate having too many days off before Christmas when the children are manically excited.

We break up on the 21st which is just right for me.

BlackberryIce · 31/08/2012 17:06

Same here vaceratops

Have told the teens and they are pleased they get more 'proper' holiday after Christmas than before. More time to do stuff

Not all children are small And believe in Santa.... There is more to Christmas than the man in red!

Sidge · 31/08/2012 17:18

Give over Blackberry - Christmas is all about FC, food, TV and pressies; everyone knows that Wink

bigTillyMint · 31/08/2012 17:20

OP, does it say break-up on 24th or holiday starts 24th?
It is probably holiday starts 24th, meaning they actually finish on the 21st.

IShallWearMidnight · 31/08/2012 17:22

our school website shows the holiday starting on the 24th, but they actually mean that the 21st is the last day in school.

workshy · 31/08/2012 17:22

I like them having more time off after christmas, it means they have more time to actually play with their christmas presents

fivegomadindorset · 31/08/2012 17:25

Mine finish 21st too although the official holiday starts 24th, as it always does. The official first day of any holiday is the Monday after the end of term IYSWIM

Hopeforever · 31/08/2012 17:26

Totally understand its a nightmare for teachers and others who work at the schools, but I am so so happy that the holidays start so late.

My DH works until lunch time on Christmas day (Vicar) so it means we can have almost 2 weeks holiday after christmas and really enjoy the time with the kids.

Apologies to teachers :)
