What's the most mundane stocking gift in your house?

Ours have lots of stocking gifts, but most are things they'd have needed anyway. Can anyone beat toothbrushes, shampoo and flannels? They get very excited whatever they unwrap!

Mint I too went out and got some windscreen ice scrapers too - just to stop the arguments.

zest01 · 24/12/2011 22:21

Flannel, deodorant, shower gel and hairbrush

BornToFolk · 24/12/2011 22:27

I've done the mini box of cereal thing too! DS usually has porridge or Weetabix so a box of highly sugared mini chocolate cookie things is a huuuuuuge treat. It was a from a multipack though and now I don't know what to do with the other 5 boxes. If I eat one in front of DS, or give him another one, it'll give the game away.

Got the requisite socks, pants & toothbrushes here. Oh and welly socks...woohoo!

LabMonkey · 24/12/2011 22:33

DD has 2 pairs of tights (way too big for her just now), a tube of dentinox, a toy car, a small ball, a packet of apple biscuit thingys and yet another flaming beaker to try (drinking out of beakers involves everyone getting wet so we're experimenting). I should point out that she's only 7.5 months and almost continuously teething so anything that can be chewed (except the tights) is fair game.

Poor DH has amongst other things a pack of leccy tape, a radiator key and some shaving foam - he's a lucky guy! Xmas Grin

have done DS (14 mths) first stocking. he has some crayons, colouring book and playdough. he has so many plastic toys, wanted to try something different!

SmileItsSeasonal · 24/12/2011 23:01

svrider I was going to say satsumas too. The smell of them always makes me feel Christmassy.

RecursiveMoon · 24/12/2011 23:10

DS has 2 balloons wrapped up in his stocking Grin. I suspect that he'll be pleased, bless. He also has lots of other bits and bobs in there, I've tried to follow MN's stocking advice though - a few things, some of which you would have bought them anyway. Anyway, I'm trying to keep his expectations low for future years.

Love the Windscreen Wiper Wars! Great idea, giving them both their own one. Grin

DS1 has a toothbrush (flashing one). DS2 probably should have one too, but he's just 1, and a terror, and I'm putting off brushing his teeth. Blush DSs both have socks.

I was once the recipient of a box of OXO cubes in my (grown-up) stocking from my mum. It was evidently the year she'd decided to do my stocking by going round Waitrose, as I also got things like a jar of gherkins, cheese straws, jam, etc. Grin

muddysnowballsthenativitycow · 25/12/2011 00:02

DS2 has post-It note pads. ( so he can use them for his GCSE revision Xmas Grin )

DD a toothbrush & toothpaste. Xmas Grin

I've also got OH a pair of yaktrax. Xmas Grin ( Last year he fell on ice going between meetings, and went on about his bum for weeks!) Xmas Grin.

A carbon copy book in each stocking. The girls saw someone using them in a shop and were very impressed. They have all of this technology available to them nowadays but were fascinated by the carbon paper.

Toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss. Santa always encourages good dental hygiene.

Merry Christmas.

The kids each had a cereal variety pack in theirs! Sugary cereal is ususally banned but it is Christmas...........they were well pleased!

MegBusset · 25/12/2011 14:26

I got a long-handled dustpan and brush from DH, and some shower gel from DS1! Are they trying to tell me something?!

inmysparetime · 25/12/2011 14:40

My DCs stockings contained:
Mouthwash
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Chocolate coins
Marshmallows
Bath sponge
Biro pens
Top trumps from the charity shop
Ear muffs from the pound shop

They were unreasonably pleased with the earmuffs and wore them all morningGrin

The worst stocking presents they ever got were a feather duster each. They loved them though, and fight over who gets to dust with themGrin. They are 7 and 10, long may it continue.

PilgrimSoul · 25/12/2011 14:44

Satsumas here too. Grin at oxo cubes and lemsip max strength, your mil sounds a hoot.
