What's the most mundane stocking gift in your house?

Ours have lots of stocking gifts, but most are things they'd have needed anyway. Can anyone beat toothbrushes, shampoo and flannels? They get very excited whatever they unwrap!

daenerysstormborn · 24/12/2011 12:13

last year dh bought the dc's a stapler and staples for their stockings. except the staples were the wrong size. and from wilko's. dd said she didn't realise father christmas shopped at wilko's!

VoldemortsNipple · 24/12/2011 12:25

The dog has poop bags in his. Pitty he can't use them himself :o

Ds's have themal vests
DD has (boring) hair clips and a comb
Dh has a can of Linx

Mine OS currently empty so dcs are off to the pound shop to fill it up while I finish wrapping, cleaning and getting their hampers sorted for tonight.

Mrsrobertduvall · 24/12/2011 12:42

I have just bought her a teeny weeny bottle of Heinz ketchup (which she loves)
It's so cute and dinky.

usualsuspect · 24/12/2011 12:46

I have bought my teenage ds a box of extra strong teabags ,hes always moaning that the teabags we use are too week Xmas Grin

usualsuspect · 24/12/2011 12:46

weak*

inchoccyheaven · 24/12/2011 13:24

a computer screen cleaning kit and a mini screwdriver kit for tightening up my glasses.

insanityscratching · 24/12/2011 13:35

Ds has a jar of piccalilli and one of red cabbage because he's the only one who eats them and I don't buy them routinely and dd has sachets of various hot chocolate drinks.

andaPontyinaPearTreeeeee · 24/12/2011 13:40

Nothing more boring than toothbrushes in DCs'. I feel they are missing out now. Next year I will add socks and pants! :)

Merran · 24/12/2011 13:47

WD 40

CroissantNeuf · 24/12/2011 13:55

When DD was just 4 she had a pack of Blu-Tack in her stocking as she was obsessed with the stuff and kept 'acquiring' bits of it from nursery and various other places.

She also got a pack of plasters one year as she was always claiming to need a plaster for every teeny tiny little scratch and we are the sort of parents who don't usually issue a plaster unless a limb is hanging off Xmas Grin.

(obviously these weren't the only stocking gifts those years!)

Tenebrist · 24/12/2011 14:15

A can of deodorant for DD1 (13). Much needed, unfortunately.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 24/12/2011 14:23

dd2 has vests in her stocking, and 2 second-hand grobags from ebay for her "big" present Grin. I am hoping that the chocolate coins will distract from this.
dd1 has pants and a PE bag, although she does actually have some decent presents too unlike her poor sister

LineRunner · 24/12/2011 15:33

Four packets of duracell batteries, and four pens, for my DS. He needs them. Xmas Smile

nulgirl · 24/12/2011 15:39

New pants for both dc's. They need them so thought I'd sneak them in from Santa. Pads out the stocking and has saved me money. Have gone for the really commercial ones though - hello kitty for dd and fireman Sam for ds.

CherrysOnTheNaughtyList · 24/12/2011 15:48

mine all have pants, socks, new toothbrushes etc as standard every year. this year they all have a hexbug which they have been asking for for months.

Ambi · 24/12/2011 15:52

more toothbrushes here too

And mini cereal boxes (mean mummy won't let him eat sugary cereal any other time Blush)

Isla77 · 24/12/2011 18:08

I have stopped doing stockings but have done everyone a goodie bag this year. Got some very pretty bags - snowflake pattern - online very cheaply and have filled with various items. Some of the items are quite boring in themselves but all are things that the recipients like so I hope I am going to get away with this! DD1 has a mug, a tin of posh hot chocolate and some marshmallows to go with it, posh coffee, socks, smellies and chocolate. DS-I-L has got coffee, mug, body spray, chocolate, nuts
DD2 has posh hot chocolate, marshmallows, mug, chai tea (she loves this), hair accessories and smellies. DS has tea, smellies, can of beer, body spray, chocolate and some nuts and his girlfriend has some knickers, hot choc and marshmallows, mug, tea, chocolates and smellies. DH and his brother have got book, tea, coffee, booze, nuts, chocolate. M - in - L has large box of fudge, chocolates, knee high socks and some very nice perfume.

Littlepurpleprincess · 24/12/2011 19:41

Pants, socks, toothpaste and a toothbrush for DS.

A set of mini screwdrivers for DH, for putting the batteries in DS's new toys. I'm not sure if he'll think this funny or tell me to eff off!

saffy202 · 24/12/2011 19:54

Both ds's have huge stockings which were fine when they were little but I regret ever buying them now so this year I have put a pack of printer paper in ds1's (18). He just doesn't seem to get the point of stockings so I am going for a useful theme this year in his. Have also got him a sponge to wash his car with and dashboard wipes:)

mintchocchick · 24/12/2011 21:59

Car windscreen scrapers!! They are 11 and 6 yrs old and always fight about who's having the scraper to clear the windscreen in the morning.

They have each got their own now so I can sit inside the car shouting directions a them!!

Svrider · 24/12/2011 22:16

Mine have all got satsumas in theirs. It was my mums traditional idea of a stocking filler gift when I was a girl
Her generation were still mightily impressed at satsumas, and she always used to put one in our stocking
Carnt help but do the same with my dcs in the hope some of the magic is passed down with power the citrus fruitSmile
