I'm trying to decide what veg to do. So far:
Roast tats
Roast parsnips and carrots
Red cabbage

what else? Don't want spouts

MrsChristmasDB · 22/12/2011 17:05

Peas
Cauliflower

I have broccoli. Xmas Smile

I prefer green beans, the long thin ones, you can wrap them up in bacon and they are delicious.

Ponders · 22/12/2011 17:11

no

we do broccoli and also mushrooms. and kale. and cauliflower.

Anything goes as long as people will eat it.
(I bloody hate peas and carrots - roast carrots are fine, but boiled are bloody disgusting)

olibeansmummy · 22/12/2011 19:34

Not in ours but cauliflower cheese does :)

hocuspontas · 22/12/2011 19:36

No. Potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, green beans, carrots, peas. Broccoli takes up too much room!

KalSkirata · 22/12/2011 19:38

yes. Instead of fart balls. We do peas and brocolli as veg.

makemineapinot · 22/12/2011 19:40

well.... it's just me and the dc this year and if they don't want veg, thats fine! Although dd (8) has specifically asked for (raw) carrots and brocolli!

learningtoflyasleigh · 22/12/2011 19:41

Yes! Alongside carrots (a viche) sprouts, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, aunt bessie parsnips (as I cremate my own) sweetcorn, roast and mashed tats.

We always have yorkshire puddings too as everyone requests them

OliNIvy · 22/12/2011 19:44

Growing up we had peas, carrots, brussels, parsnips, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and sometimes cauliflower cheese.

I do the above but without the cauli cheese (none of us like it) and add brocolli ('cause I love it) and green beans (one of the few veggies my veg-phobic DS likes.

I'm always open to veggie suggestions, though. Grin

moondog · 22/12/2011 19:44

Waaaay too many vegetables you lot.
Mushrooms?
Sweetcorn?

wtf

Two vegetables and potatoes.
All you need.

Methe · 22/12/2011 19:45

No!

Sprouts, carrots and peas.

We are having Aunt Bessies parsnips too with I am Blush about but mine always go soggy!

I a generally a bloody good cook so my parsnip failure is hard to swallow.. literally!

Methe · 22/12/2011 19:46

sweetcorn!

It's a particularly British trait.
(As noted on Come Dine with Me)

How 15 different kinds of grey boiled vegetables can be perceived to enhance anyone's meal is a mystery to me.

moondog · 22/12/2011 19:50

What's you line in nibbles SWC?

Methe · 22/12/2011 19:52

OI! us brits don't all boil our veg to death!

Yes.

because we HATE sprouts.

mummynoseynora · 22/12/2011 19:54

2 veg?!?!?! thats just wrong

we have about 6 normally - love the variety and how it brightens up the plate, options include:

swede and carrot mash - a must in this house
roasted butternut squash - as above
braised red cabbage
carrots
cauliflower cheese
green beans (or runner beans or whatever the hell they are!)
honey roast parsnips

Cauliflower cheese??
Jeeeezuz!

Nibbles.
Lethal.

Nothing beats a tray of blini with sour cream and smoked salmon though.
Oh and a glass of fizz.

OliNIvy · 22/12/2011 19:57

Its part of the gluttoous fun of Christmas dinner, surely? Loadsa (lightly steamed Grin) veg, at least two types of stuffing, two types of meat (turkey/ham, duck/goose etc) and, for our greedy family, two types of potato, too.

Mandatory, surely?

OliNIvy · 22/12/2011 19:57
