Before I go out again tomorrow and spend more...STOP ME!!

How much have you spent on your other halves?

We only do token gesture presents - £20 maximum or hand done (I won't say made exactly as we've written stuff or framed photos in the past, so not exactly crafty). We do it this way because a) we don't need more stuff in our house, and b) our personal finance isn't equitable as I have a 0.4 post. Also, we tend to save birthdays for bigger presents, and get together with others to give something significant.

Dare I ask how much you've spent?!

dmo · 18/12/2011 23:53

£100 each but think i have gone over by £20 Smile

HollyPricklesMyFanjo · 18/12/2011 23:56

Me too twincrazy! Grin
A main present of £225, two DVDs, a t shirt and something from ten DS's! Think that's even more, eek!
Usually a quite a lot less but this year has been tough and he is my rock and totally deserves to be spoilt.

Methe · 19/12/2011 00:24

About £100.

MamaPizzaChristmasToppings · 19/12/2011 06:37

When we had more money than sense no DC it hit the £400-£500 mark (i.e. one year he got an underwater camera from me for scuba diving).

Now it is £50.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/12/2011 07:11

Just bought dh a book (solid, boring sort of present I know). Cost about $35 but books are well spenny here. He has (under instruction) bought me a necklace that cost $20. I am a cheap date.

TiredTeddy, was the ten DS's a typo? Or do you REALLY have TEN sons? .

MrsDobalina · 19/12/2011 08:28

This year everything he asked for was expensive so he'll get one present that costs about £90 (but it's his money anyway as effectively have no income Grin).

MudAndGlitter · 19/12/2011 08:29

£150 but I havent been able to afford to buy him birthday or Xmas for 3 years! I made up for it this year hopefully!

He spent £25 on me. Hmm

hellhasnofury · 19/12/2011 08:31

Very little this year. We've agreed to put the money towards the £700 bill he's just had for getting his car through the MOT.

OtterBaubles · 19/12/2011 08:32

How much does a Toblerone cost?

DandyDan · 19/12/2011 08:33

£40-£50

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 19/12/2011 08:33

Otter, you can get one for a pound at .... Poundland. Xmas Grin I kid you not - that is one of the things DH is getting. Spent about £70 on him.

Mrsrobertduvall · 19/12/2011 08:35

£200.
He goes and buys what he wants, I do likewise.
No surprises here.
Although I have no idea what I want this year, so will have NOTHING to open on the 25th except 2 books from dcs. And have to get up at 7 and take dh/ds to the airport!

TrinityRhino · 19/12/2011 08:37

I would say about 200 this year

this is our first proper christmas together and there was a specific thing that I know he really wants
but he has no idea I have bought it for him

then a couple of other things and little things from the girls

sunnyday123 · 19/12/2011 08:39

we always agree on a limit which i stick too but DH never seems to and always goes over!!!! Xmas Smile Last year was £50, this year £100. One year we decided not to buy at all but our parents only give us cash so we ended up with nothing and it was a bit rubbish!

Hulababy · 19/12/2011 08:40

It varies tbh, no real budget. So far this year I have spent....about £150 plus £50 from dd, that she chose but I paid for. May well add to it this week if I see something, but we will see.

OddBaubles · 19/12/2011 08:40

Prob about £20-30 pounds, it's just token stuff for us.

mrspnut · 19/12/2011 08:41

I've spent about £350, but most of that was on a new watch.

He's also got skyrim, some books, smellinks, pj's and some cd's.

SlinkyBells · 19/12/2011 09:13

I'm also intrigued about whether TiredTeddy has ten sons?!

Last couple of years it's been around the £100 mark, but due to ds/mat leave/pending house-move, we've scaled it back to around £50.

AgnesBligg · 19/12/2011 09:20

about 4p

theITgirl · 19/12/2011 09:48

I have spent £104 on DH. That covers presents from me, DS & DD. That is about average but pre DC we used to spend more on each other. The size of the presents from the DC depends on what my present to him costs - eg if he wants something really expensive the DC only get him token presents.

My present from DH costs £110 (but it is a need as well as a want), so I think that justifies the extra expense. Don't know what the children are getting me. Except DH brought a Bonzai tree for £7.99 along with the weekly shop - I saw the reciept, WTF do I want with a Bonzai tree, so I hope that is for someone else, but who as the only present he had to buy was mine!

AliBellandthe40jingles · 19/12/2011 11:19

We have a budget of £100, plus £30 for stocking fillers.

Bethshine82 · 19/12/2011 11:55

theITgirl men make random gift choices in the face of desperation! My dad got my mom a guide to wild flowers (weeds) for her birthday. God knows why. She was unimpressed.
