I suppose I'd better get the baby something, but what?

DD1 was chatting away today about Father Christmas & the stockings & blah blah blah & won't DD2 be excited! Erm... yes, she would be, if she was older than 3 months & if I had bothered to get her anything for her stocking, or indeed a tree present Hmm So I guess I should get her something just to satisfy DD1's Christmas spirit. We already have books, toys, clothes from DD1 so I am trying to think of nice, small, cheap things that will come in useful. So far I've got horn spoon for when she starts solids!

New bibs? Those wee dribble catcher things that look like wee neck scarves. A nice pic for her room, something personalised perhaps? Or new bath toys? Or new little daisy roots leather shoes....

DS was captivated at that age by festive helium foil balloon which when attached to leg by string provided hours of kicking fun. And photo ops.

Dd3 had a balloon last year. I also got her things to grow into.

Could you wrap up some of DD1s old toys, a couple of teddy bears or some of her long forgotton baby toys (blocks, rattles etc)?

It would satisfy her christmas spirit and save you some money and valuable house room Xmas Smile

Great ideas. I am going to blame the sleepless nights although the baby actually slept 10 hrs straight last night for why I didn't think of wrapping up some of the stuff in the loft. & she will also get one of those neck scarves, because I remember thinking they were cute, & a mobile for when she moves into her own rom, & a pack of balloons/bubbles that DD1 can blow for her.

I'd also wrap some of the things out of the loft. We kept some of the better toys dd1 had & wrapped those for dd2 last year. She was only 1 and didn't care that almost everything she got was 2nd hand, just loved crunching the paper up & ripping it into little bits Grin

I got DD2 (4 weeks) teethers, soft toys, and a few 6 month plus toys. Purely for DD1 to think Santa included DD2 rather than anything else Blush

We got DD2 a 9mths+ toy last Xmas, she was under 2 months, but it meant it looked like she had some pressies and then when she was starting to play with toys we got it out with the other old and battered stuff she inherited. We have done the same this year as her birthday and Christmas are so close together. Once she has ripped the paper to shreds her pressie from us will go back in a cupboard and then we'll get it out again in the summer so she has something new to play with as it will still be a good while until her b'day. She has also got practical things she needs

DD2 is 7 months.

I brought her a teething necklace for Xmas - but I have lost it :(

So she has got a Sweet Pea doll & Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs - both from Amazon. Oh & I'm wrapping up some 9 month + clothes. I'll also give her a couple of books to pad things out - more to keep up Santa deception for DD1 really (Knackered freshly back to FT work Mum of 2 here)

My DD will be 4 months at Christmas. I've got her some toys and books from ELC. But my fab thing is her Morrck baby hoodie. It's the best thing I've bought so far but as its cold I couldn't resist using it now

Can I just be very annoying and say that balloons are one of the highest causes of asphixiation for children. I wouldn't give them to a baby Sad

My DD is 8 weeks old today. I am going to put some of DS's old toys and teethers in her stocking for DS's sake (he's 3 and very into Christmas thanks to nursery going on about it). She's also getting a rag doll.

Oh get her the year spoons from Arthur Price, they're only £3 and they're something thats a bit of a keepsake when they're older.

Some little presents would do - she won't know if you wrap something that you are handing dowm from DD1. She'll probably enjoy playing with the wrapping paper more than the present anyway!

DD will be nearly 11mo. We got her a sit on pony from asda for £20. It's hideous, and I kind of wish we'd splashed out more on the john lewis version, but obviously she won't care. That was going to be it, as we know relatives will go crazy (first grandchild and niece). Then my DM made me feel guilty that she wasn't having a stocking, so I got her some shoes in the Boden sale (she needed new slippers) and The Snowman DVD for me (and it will last years). Also some toys from the charity shop - she's already playing with these, as otherwise she'll just be overwhelmed with all the new toys on one day.

I think it's a bit sad that so many people seem to ignore babies at Christmas. I always loved buying mine their presents. Dd1 got a teddy for her first Christmas and a Christmas outfit and a stocking. Dd2 got a musical dragon and outfit/stocking and dd3 got the Lilliputians teepee plus outfit etc. I know they don't realise what day it is - but I do!

I agree with Sylvia about balloons btw. No way they should be anywhere near a baby or young child.

Dd1 had wellies in her first stocking btw. Balls are good as well. Or you could make a treasure box or basket for Santa to leave?

DS2 was 5 weeks old last xmas, but DS1 would have been devastated if Santa hadnt brought him much.

SO, sit and think about what your DD will need before her 1st bday, and buy them all! eg toys for age 9-12 months, clothes for next autumn, woolly hat, bowls, spoons, Grobag, books, Bumbo, buggy, sun parasol for the summer. ANYTHING that can be wrapped! Go to Poundland for bowls and spoons and Tommee Tippee sippy cups.

PS - balloons + babies = potential tragedy. And, Napdamnyou , attaching a balloon to a baby's leg by a string? Xmas Shock
