All this fussing about how to explain where presents come from, why you have to thank people when they came from FC? Are none of you properly versed in the Christmas truth?

FC brings the presents that go in the stockings. Presents under the tree are from everyone else.

Glad we got that sorted.

OP posts:

stocking (with stuff likw chocs and pencils in) and a main present that's really really wanted from santa

other presents from other people are presents from other people, who send/give them by themselves and arrive when they arrive and aren't delivered by father christmas

mum and dad give somthing too, though not something massive, not unless they got really lucky on amazon...

I had a friend who passed off everything given as fom the man in red (not just delivered), found it irritating and a bit cheeky, first time i got presents for her dd i went to a good bit of effort and when i gave it to the mum, she was a bit huffy that i handed it to her (in a carrier bag mind) iin front of her dd, then pulled off the llabel. thankfully, I don't buy for her kids anymore (though not for that reason!)

redlac · 04/12/2011 08:11

Not in this house - Santa brings the presents but relatives also give Christmas presents. That's the way my mum done it and that's the way I'm doing it

PontyMython · 04/12/2011 08:14

I forgot to mention, FC also brings DH and I a couple of presents - something we both want but wouldn't just randomly buy, IYSWIM. We cut our budget for each other to start doing this; we like so much of the same stuff! This year it's Escape from Atlantis, a board game which had been out of manufacture for years, and series 1-4 of Scrubs which I got very cheap from ebay :)

All FC presents will be upstairs and opened on our bed. Anything else would be a scandal :o

MitziKinsky · 04/12/2011 08:21

LoopyLoopsWoopDeWoops you are so right.

This is the Christmas Truth.

But then some people on MN have been known to state that FC is not real. Hmm

Another truth, which my DC particularly like is "Never show you bottom to Father Christmas. He doesn't give presents to people who are so rude."

fluffytowels · 04/12/2011 08:33

I think I go for all presents from FC under the tree. Family bring presents later. Never thought to specifically point out that some are from us and they have never stopped to care.

What I hate is people over complicating it. It doesn't stand up to scrutiny at the best of times so don't start getting tricksy.

All this, 'I buy them and send them to FC, I 'I send money to FC to buy them, 'FC left some presents for you at Grandad's house.'

It's magic. 'tis all.

DillyTante · 04/12/2011 08:34

Is Fathers Christmas the plural, like Courts Martial? Grin

ninjasquirrel · 04/12/2011 08:44

Yes, FC brings the stocking presents, that's what I had as a child.

Bonsoir · 04/12/2011 08:49

Yes, OP, you are right Smile

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 04/12/2011 08:49

Same here...

MortaIWombat · 04/12/2011 08:59

EXACTLY, op.
ANd it is important to note that, ackchewerly, Father Christmas can only bring things small enough to fit into a stocking.

SilveryMoon · 04/12/2011 09:00

ScroobiousPip We don't have a chimney, but this year, I spotted a big silver key in one of those cheapy shops, which is FC's special key. We will hang it on our wreath on the front door for him to get in, then we have some of that magic snow to dust around and do big footprints in.

MrsCog · 04/12/2011 09:27

Santa Claus the Movie provides a good explaination as to how FC get's in without a chimney - doesn't he just click his fingers? Also - there are also presents already under the trees in the houses he visits, so this prooves not all presents are from him!

Santa Expert here Xmas Wink, just wish 26+5 DC1 could understand Christmas in utero!!! (Have already caved and brought a Christmas Elf suit in age 9-12 months for next year.)

ginmakesitallok · 04/12/2011 09:31

Sorry but some of you have it all wrong - FC brings ALL the presents in this house. DP and I get off very lightly because we don't have to buy the kids anything at all. Of course once you don't believe then FC doesn't bring them any more so DP and I have to make up the shortfall.

mercibucket · 04/12/2011 09:43

No beardie oldie is stealing my glory! Main present from dh and I, stocking from santa with all the smaller stuff, other presents from the people who give them. I'd be horrified if someone tried to pass my present to their child off as being from someone else - cheeky gits

fatzak · 04/12/2011 09:49

Are we the only family that doesn't have stockings? It wasn't a tradition I grew up with as everything came from FC and was left in pillow cases under the tree. Family members ask him to bring the presents so thank you letters can be written!

Seona1973 · 04/12/2011 09:59

Santa (always Santa here in Scotland!), brings all the presents that we buy and anything for anyone else comes from that particular person. We dont have a chimney but we leave out Magic Keys so that Santa can get in the house.

lilchicken · 04/12/2011 10:02

Ah when I was growing up Santa paid for the "Big" present but Mum and Dad had to give him money for the rest of the things he delivered.

Moln · 04/12/2011 10:06

Depends what you leave out fatzak - just traditional leaving out stockings because the St Nicolas story and the three women who were to be sold in to slavery and the doweries in their stockings (which happend to be hung up)

As his name he's called Santa in this house, I grew ho calling him Father Christmas and DH grew up call him Santie

LissTheSeasonLouBeJollie · 04/12/2011 10:09

the big man is a glorified postman in this house. he does bring stocking tat, but on the whole we buy the presents (which is why ds cant have a bloody fire temple, spinjitzu dojo and ice dragon) and santa delivers them.

jack frost is his chief elf and brings christmas eve pj's/book along with a note suggesting that its bedtime. he checks up on us all regularly (hence the frost)

lljkk · 04/12/2011 10:30

FC doesn't bring any of the pressies in our house; we don't teach DC to believe in him at all.

They first learn about FC from school and then decide Santa is somehow involved in Xmas in secret ways Mummy hasn't mentioned (part of the adult world of mysteries, like money, sex and the meanings of rude words).

When I fetched DS from school recently he was arguing with 2 teachers (good-naturedly) about whether FC existed (DS firmly said NOT). "It's okay," I said gently pulling him aside, "they aren't ready for the truth yet." Wink

BaublesandCuntingCarolSingers · 04/12/2011 10:37

Why would children get excited about Father Christmas if he only brings a few assorted bits of tat in a stocking?

FC brings the big presents in this house. People who insist that their DC know that mummy and daddy bought them are glory hunters and robbing their kids of christmas magic. They'll stop believing soon enough and you'll be thanked when they're older.

spiderslegs · 04/12/2011 10:49

I couldn't agree more Baubles.

All stuff bought by us is from FC, anything else is from the person who bought it.

And what's all this nonsense about paying him for things?? FC doesn't deal in tawdry realities such as hard cash - it's all magic & elven toil.

lljkk · 04/12/2011 11:11

DC get excited about Father Christmas even though we TELL them it's all make-believe! It's part of the group think they pick up at school.

PeanutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 04/12/2011 11:13

Totally agree Baubles and Spider
Its all about the Magic and anticipation of Father Christmas.

Have none of you watched Santa Claus the Movie, Elves make the toys in Santas workshop!

Father Christmas brings everything apart from present from parents and relatives Xmas Grin
