Previous years we have put ours up on Christmas eve, but I wonder when and why other families put theirs up at certain times or even if you have yours up now.

I'm hanging on until the 1st dec, love the lights n decorations and it takes so long to put up, may as well get some good use Grin

DressDownFriday · 26/11/2011 20:07

Usually 12/14 days before Christmas. Even then I thinks it's early but start getting pressure from the DC's. I like to get it up before my works 'do' so I feel more in the Christmas spirit.

On my way home from work tonight I noticed some decs are up already - far too early for my liking.

cosysocks · 26/11/2011 20:33

Putting ours up next sat...ds would have it up now if he had his way. Noticing loads of people have theirs up already near to where I live.

RedHotPokers · 26/11/2011 20:41

Very beginning of December.

Letchlady · 26/11/2011 20:53

Christmas Eve, then down on Twelfth Night.

Catsmamma · 26/11/2011 21:03

no earlier than the weekend before christmas, but this year with a whole week I might wait till the children break up on the 21st.

mrsmplus3 · 26/11/2011 21:36

saturday the 10th.

bubbleschimp · 26/11/2011 21:42

im putting ours up next saturday night ! i cant wait !!

MmeBucket · 26/11/2011 21:46

Either the 1st or 2nd weekend in December. I guess it just depends on how we're feeling that year. But it needs to come down on the 27th, or it bugs me to death, and I can't function.

Tidybush · 26/11/2011 21:48

Despite much pestering to put it up at the start of December I put ours up a week before Christmas and take it down on 12th night but I'd take it down on 27th Dec if it was up to me

startail · 26/11/2011 21:48

No tree at midnight on new years day, have you no soulHmm

tyler80 · 26/11/2011 21:53

Christmas eve. Last year Homebase were giving real trees away by the 23rd so it saves money too :-)

tarantula · 26/11/2011 21:55

Up after my b'day (10th Dec) but only if we are going home (my home Ireland that is which is most years) otherwise a week before Christmas. Down for Little Christmas/12th Night/Epiphany/5th Jan (whichever you call it). Not allowed to take them down before or after Tis the rules and 'orrid things will 'appen if this isn't followed.

cece · 26/11/2011 21:56

As late as I can get away with - the kids pestering me already. However, at the very earliest it will be 14th Dec.

However, I take it down asap after Christmas day - usually 27th/28th Dec. Can't bare it there once it is all over.

veggieburger · 26/11/2011 21:59

Ours is always up by christmas eve, but how busy we are depends when exactly it goes up. We decorate the DCs rooms before then though as they can't wait to feel festive!

workshy · 26/11/2011 22:00

no free trees this year folks not that I have insider knowledge or anything

mine goes up on the 14th

DDs birthday on the 13th and I like to keep christmas seperate -even if they do start nagging at me from the 1st

mrsmplus3 · 26/11/2011 22:02

dont mean to sound like a preacher ladies but you cant take it down on the 27th/28th!! thats still christmas!! the 12 days of christmas?? we enjoy new years day, the 2nd too and chill on the 3rd. take tree down and clean house on the 4th. come on, try it! it prolongs the fun!

Xmasbaby11 · 26/11/2011 22:08

Mid December. Baby is due on Xmas Day so I want to start enjoying festivities asap!

fifitot · 26/11/2011 22:11

Put it up late so you can leave itup for the 12 days of xmas. Traditionally meant to go up on Xmas eve and then stay up til 12th night. I try to do this but with kids it goes up a bit earlier than that now - round about 20th.

Today! It looks lovely. DD and DS were so excited to do it. Only really done the tree, the rest of the decorations will wait and we'll do them next weekend.

ChippyMinton · 27/11/2011 08:15

Usually mid December with a real tree. But I bought a mahoosive fakey on Friday that's taking up half my hall at the moment, so it's going up next Saturday to get it out of the way.

Also, most of the DC's xmas events will be over and done with by 16th December and it would be nice to get in the spirit for them.

sunnyday123 · 27/11/2011 08:17

sat 3rd. We always do the first weekend of dec. tbh we get a real one and its usually about £50-60 so i want to get the most out of it! No way could i wait til xmas eve- i love the whole build up, the cold nights before xmas with the kids, fire, lights etc :)
