My parents are v generous and as well as pressies they usually also make us a hamper. What i'd really like instead of biscuits and cakes etc though would be a hamper of nappies, wipes, formula, breadsticks, fruit pots, pouches of food for out and about etc. All the baby stuff that adds a fortune onto the monthly shop. Wouldn't dare say it though - I don't think they's see it as a present.

I would actually love a Kindle but as we are stoneyfuckingbroke I am saying what I really really really want more than anything from my lovely darling partner is a pair of pjs and a book Grin so that we can afford to buy xmas pres for the dd and various others who HAVE to be bought for Wink

2kidsintow · 19/11/2011 00:16

To be able to go to my parents house for Christmas dinner.

We went year in, year out til we had kids. Then my OH started to hint complain that he didn't want to go round there and would rather have "A lovely Christmas of our own.
We did Christmas the 4 of us last year and it was nice, but mostly because it was our turn to put on the evening buffet so they were coming around to ours anyway later in the day.
His Mum and Dad never did Christmas much and his Mum and Aunty go away every year now.
I am painfully aware that there are only a certain number of Christmasses that they will be around for and I'd like to spend the day with them.

Still plucking up courage to mention it.

tiddlerslate · 19/11/2011 00:38

I would love an iPad but we are stoney broke too and DH's contract is up at the end of jan. So being frugal so can afford for dc's.

I would love a IPad but just can not afford one Or people that buy presents for me can't either

DumSpiroSpero · 19/11/2011 09:23

Sad 2kids

It's horrible feeling like that. My DH doesn't like my parents (I have no concrete reason as to why - they can be bloody hard work but are certainly no worse than MIL!). They are also 10 years older than the in-laws so I know exactly what you mean about being painfully aware that spending Christmas with them won't always be an option.

Every autumn I spend weeks and weeks worrying and plucking up the courage to discuss what we're going to do for Christmas. I used to love the festive season but now I hate it 'cos it's so bloody stressful it's actually made me ill virtually every year since we've been married.

A piano :( its my dream present. I would even settle for a VERY cheap £50 second hand one just so I can hear that sound. Ive wanted one for years.

Tell them that is what you want, they might understand if its what you really want.

I'm like you op I prefer practical things for the dcs but always but myself on a back burner. The piano would be my dream gift :(

Marne · 19/11/2011 19:17

A nice box of chocolates Grin

molepom · 19/11/2011 19:25

Honestly?

A new Ipod or a new TV.

Both of those I have are on their way out. Ipod doesnt last more than 2 hours now before it dies (had it when they first came out so that coming for about 5 years now) and the TV (CRT) is showing it's age and is making a very high pitched but kind of quiet scream from the speakers when turned on. I've had it for around 10 years now and it's done brilliantly, even surviving 3 glasses of juice knocked over it. I'll be kind of sad when it does die as it's been brilliant and I doubt I will get something that well made again.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2011 19:29

I want a skirt with flies on - but I don't think anybody actually makes them. I also want one of those little birds that you put in a pie - but dp would think I was bonkers if I asked for one of those.

All I HAVE actually asked for is some bookmarks from Paperchase - they are shaped like insects. :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2011 19:30

OP - I'm sure your parents would think that a baby hamper is a great idea. Why don't you see what they think?

thousandDenier · 19/11/2011 19:31

ooo Remus I nearly bought one of those pie blackbirds today. My Nan had one, I loved it.

thousandDenier · 19/11/2011 19:32

I want a jolly good seeing to bit or romance

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/11/2011 19:33

A retreat in a well-heated log cabin somewhere remote, with a lot of books, crafting supplies and hot chocolate. No children. Grin

I'd love some new clothes that make me look effortlessly chic, well-put-together and two dress sizes smaller. Unfortunately, I don't think they exist and I'm the type that makes nice clothes look a bit crap and bag-ladyish. Sad

Am I the only person who doesn't want an Ipad? I don't really get the lust for shiny techy things, but then I'm not a techy person.

Sad for people who have stressy family stuff at Christmas. We have a bit of that.

MoreBoober · 19/11/2011 19:35

An engagement ring... Sadly no chance stoney broke Sad so will settle for cuddles from our wonderful DS Smile

bananarama05 · 19/11/2011 19:41

Remus I've bought my dad one of those pie birds for my dad this year! (Along with the Pie-minister book and lots of other foodie bits in a hamper I should add, would be a bit of an odd one off present!).

And I agree OP, do you really think your parents reaction would be that negative? I'd give it a try mentioning it, what's the worst that could happen? :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2011 19:42

I have no desire whatsoever for an i-pad.

Where did you see the pie-bird Denier? I have never actually seen one irl.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2011 19:43

That sounds a fab gift, Banana.

bananarama05 · 19/11/2011 19:45

I got this one Pie Bird

The Le Creuset one did tempt me but thought it might be a little extravagent! Posh Pie Bird although looking at it again now, I sort of wish I had Envy

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/11/2011 19:52

Have just added the Le Creuset one to my Amazon basket. I deserve a treat whilst doing all the Christmas shopping, surely? :) Thanks.

bananarama05 · 19/11/2011 19:55

Indeed you do and any Le Creuset for a £5 can't be sniffed at now really can it?!

Glad to have helped and am now off to look for unsuitable presents for myself!

Off2CtheWorld · 19/11/2011 19:56

Reshape if you get those outfits, please ask where they came from and come tip us off so we can go get some too!

Ragwort · 19/11/2011 19:57

ReShape - I also have no wish for technical stuff (wouldn't know what to do with it either Grin).

I would love a retreat on my own, with my crafts and to be completely alone - actually I did suggest this one year to DH as he has the option to take DS somewhere which is really fab for them but not particularly for me but he looked horrified at the idea - not sure why, as when we do all go to this place together I am still stuck on my own whilst they do their own thing so I might as well be in the comfort of my own home.

Other things I would love - someone to properly valet my car/an evening babysitting - simple things that would cost nothing Smile.

NewsClippings · 19/11/2011 20:04

northernmonkey have you posted a request on Freecycle? There could well be someone with a piano taking up space who doesn't need it.

yellowflowers · 19/11/2011 20:55

Northernmonkey - pianos come up on my Freecycle emails about once a month.

mummymccar · 19/11/2011 21:10

Moreboober - snap! I'm not even that bothered about the ring though, I'd just love the proposal!

Failing that, I'd love a night away in a hotel before our baby is born in Feb but both of these are way out of our price league so I'm happy with my cuddles from DP.
