Am being a bit disingenuous because I haven't thought of much for my 7 year old ds yet. So far I've got him a Star Wars 2012 calendar (he is always asking how many days until Christmas / his birthday / next holiday / school holidays etc) and a lego kit. Am pondering if there are any decent new Wii games out.....

What about you?

And you do Shock

DilysPrice · 09/11/2011 21:47

DS is going to have a big Lego model from us. He and/or DD will also be getting the Spyro game, Horrible Histories/Science annuals (they got all the paperbacks last year from a Book People deal, and they've been worth their weight in gold), and the Brilliant Book of Doctor Who (the Ronseal of the annuals world), the Lego Ideas Book and the two Wimpy Kid books we don't yet have.

On the non-book front, he wants or will get a Brio Flying Scotsman, a Tower Bridge model, possibly a new scooter in the next size up because he really has grown out of his old one, an Angry Bird cuddly toy in his stocking, a make your own ship in a bottle kit and probably the Big Book of Posters of Ocean Liners which he saw in a museum shop and has been pestering me for ever since.

This is what I have got my 6.5 ds so far:

Dinosaur Planet book
Angry birds catapult game, drawing book and pens in the shape of the birds
Wii with Mario games
Tom and Jerry DS game
Tome and Jerry book
Little Big Planet 2 game
Junior Cranium
Telling the Time board game
Pass the Bomb board game
New Guess Who interactive game
Dinosaur top trumps
Whoopee cushion
Fart putty(!)
Few Roald Dahl books for his collection
Pillow Pet

I am also tempted to get a Sackboy figure but may leave it til next month now.

Hope this helps

For those of you going for Playmobil Top Agents, look out for the free dvd that goes with it. Our toy shop had them at the till. It gave ds a good start for a story line for his figures and some names and things too for the characters. He has expanded and developed from there but it gave him a launch pad. His only other spy experience is Johnny English.

We also have a dragon castle one which has a pc game on it as well. I will have to see if the top agents one does.

Great list saxony - lots of variety of ideas in there.

Carrotsandcelery · 10/11/2011 18:23

I meant to add that ds is talking about the Lego Policestation and the Playmobil Empire Castle (yikes!) a lot too. I don't think it will fit in our budget but it might in someone else's. Grin

sadmum1000 · 10/11/2011 21:27

My DS 7 has asked for:
Wii Mario and sonic at 2012 London Oympics
John Adams Hot wires set

And that's it!
He'll also prob get (from family)
Kitchen Chemisty set
Hexbug nano set

And I think I'll pinch someone's idea of top agents playmobil set. Any suggestions which one?

My aunt is getting him the lego boombox too.

Stocking fillers so far are - Banagrams, Juggling balls, Choc coins. Only a small stocking so hope that will fill it!

Carrotsandcelery · 10/11/2011 21:32

sadmum1000 Firstly I hope you are not sad anymore Sad

Secondly, what is the budget on the Playmobil Top Agents? The main set is the HQ and it is great but also £60 but there is a broad range. My ds got a few for his birthday and the mad scientist lab has loads of play value in it. this one here

sadmum1000 · 10/11/2011 22:15

Not sad any more thanks:-)
We don't spend a lot at xmas - proabably looking at £50 max for main present. Less if I buy his other things on the list. Altho you will see from my other post (CITV advert) I have no idea what it is that he wants

CharlieBoo · 11/11/2011 22:07

John Lewis has 20% off all playmobil until next week including the top agents range.

Got ds an Usborne WWII book... Is fab, he'll love it!!

Carrotsandcelery · 11/11/2011 22:17

Thanks Charlie v useful info indeed.

Dd got ds a hexbug starter kit today which she is excited about so hopefully he will be. It looks a lot of fun. I can't wait til Christmas!!

myBOYSareBONKERS · 12/11/2011 09:01

Lego games on the wii and ds are a huge hit with my son

I get alot of lego off of ebay

iloveblue · 12/11/2011 09:45

Lots of good deals on HP and Star wars lego on Amazon at the mo.
I'm debating suggesting the Star Wars battle of Endor set to MIL to get - £56 at the mo, as a joint present.
Does anyone have it? Is it any good?

Also, Hogwarts castle is down to £68 - I would love this for myself!!

Carrotsandcelery · 12/11/2011 20:06

iloveblue I am afraid I have no experience of Star Wars sets yet, apart from a few Lego ones.

Ds has just been given a late Birthday gift of Disney Universe for the wii. Ds and Dh have been playing it for 2 hours Shock I have muttered about bedtime as I have Crabbies Ginger Beer they will be grumpy tomorrow but no one is taking me on, not even dh.

I am taking that as a sign that it is a good game.

Ds hasn't got into a flap well not a big one either which is unusual so I suspect the frustration factor is not too high.

He was also given Phineas and Ferb but he hasn't tried it yet as he is totally absorbed in Disney Universe. I will report back when he has as I suspect he and dh will be having a gaming Sunday. Hmm

DilysPrice · 12/11/2011 20:49

Battle of Endor looks tempting but overpriced to me.

I have Hogwarts, which is great, I might check Amazon to see what they're charging for the extension set

DilysPrice · 12/11/2011 20:56

Amazon currently have Hogwarts Express for 55 quid including the Ford Anglia which is a great price.

Outsideperspective · 12/11/2011 21:12

DS wants:

Skylander xbox starter pack
Fifa 2012
Forcea car racing game
Laser car
Hornby Locomotive
Shark airswimmer
Star Wars Lego

Carrotsandcelery · 12/11/2011 21:27

Outside Skylanders is great fun Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 12/11/2011 21:28

Those of you mentioning Harry Potter merchandise, have your ds's read the books or had them read to them or seen the films or do they have no other experience of HP other than the toys?

Outsideperspective · 12/11/2011 21:58

CandC how many extra characters of skylanders do you need to make it a worthwhile playing experience?

iloveblue · 12/11/2011 22:03

I've read the books to DS1. We started reading them about this time last year - picked the first one up in a charity shop and we were hooked.
He has also seen the films and loves them Smile

Carrotsandcelery · 12/11/2011 22:15

I am wondering if he is ready for them. Dd has never liked them so I had dismissed them tbh but ds is a completely different character. He has mental health problems though and is very nervous/cautious. I have read the first one and it would be fine but from the bits of films I have seen, it looks like they get a lot scarier.

Outside ds only has the three characters that came in the starter pack at the moment and seems to be getting on fine. I think there are some areas you can't access unless you have a character from that element but this doesn't seem to have affected his enjoyment. I think it would matter more if you had more or less completed things and wanted to do new things. Disclaimer: I don't know this for sure.

Ds does want more characters though. This is mostly because if a character "dies" they don't die, they are told they need a rest. They then have to wait a wee while for the character to work again. Ds gets round this by adding another character instead while his character "rests". This works fine until he gets to a tricky bit. He plays with dh so dh always has one of the characters so if ds's second character needs a "rest" too then he can't play for a mo. It is not a long time but ds is impatient Grin

Outsideperspective · 13/11/2011 09:21

Ah may ask Grandma to get another 3 pack to keep the entertainment going, dh ds won't like having to wait while character resting Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 13/11/2011 12:10

Grin Ds is getting a 3 pack from family when we next see him - another birthday gift he will get late. I am Shock by how much they receive. I think it is good that he plays the game with 3 and then gets the boost of 3 more characters after a wee while. He has a lot of birthday cash and I suspect it will also be spent on Skylanders or Top Agents.

He played the Phineas and Ferb game on his own for hours this morning ( I was listing on ebay Blush although it was for charity Grin) He had never played before but seemed to manage on his own no problem and was having a great time.

He did get tired and stroppy after a while but he had been on a lot longer than I usually allow.

CharlieBoo · 13/11/2011 13:31

Ooh ds has also shown interest in the remote control spider he's seen on an advert so sil is getting him that. They have it in asda for £14.

Went into Hawkins bazarre earlier in town and they have a few stocking fillers for not a bad price. There was a plug fir the bath with a huge spider at the end he really liked and a shark thing for the bath.
