so what is your christmas tree like

i ask because i have a black slim tree with matching decs [black and silver], i have now changed the decor in the front room and dp says its time we had a green tree and assorted decs, i have always gone with a colour scheme, so do i just buy random nice decs for the tree, what ever the colour and let the kids decorate it may have to redecorate when they go to bed

Mine is a smallish green one with father christmas lights and small twinkly lights. It has lots of unco-ordinated decorations - some bought, some homemade by ds and some homemade by me. I buy a new decoration every year and so does my mum so they're a complete mis-match but adds to the chaos charm . I'm not organised enough to have a theme and what would you do with dc's homemade decs?

i have a 7ft green tree, but last year had a real one and probably will again this year. complete mismash of decs normally, but dr who themed this year so will mostly be in navy and silver.

all the dc's homemade decs went on their tree in the hall i would love a real tree but our house is too warm and they don't last well, i do love the small of a real tree, dp's mum did say i could buy a potted tree and she would kindly plant it in her garden after christmas

Ah, I don't have enough patience space to put up 2 trees. I might put more thought into it if I did!

I looked at real trees last year but hadn't realised just how expensive they are - it was about £30 for a small one. If I thought I'd be able to keep a potted one alive year after year then I'd consider one of them but I know it'd die the minute I took it away from the tree shop!

Ours is 8 foot and bushy. We have some plain matching baubles (golds & reds) and then lots of mismatched little decorations eg. a nutcracker, Father Christmas an angel a gingerbread man.

Mine is very large and green. It cost a small fortune as it is very realistic. We have had it years though so has been very good value.
I decorate it in green and cream with hints of gold to match the colours in my living room. Each year I make bunches of cinnamon sticks tied with gold ribbon. I bake orange slices and hang them on the tree, the orange and cinnamon give a lovely Christmassy smell. I have 6 sets of white lights so it really sparkles.

I am so so fussy about my tree. I don't let anyone help me decorate it and spend hours making sure it is absolutely perfect. I will not have cards displayed in the the living room because they look untidy . My living room at Christmas is a haven of colour co-ordinated taste and perfection.
In my defence we have another tree in the dining room. This one is real and decorated by the dc with all the stuff they make at school and have collected over the years (and they insist it has coloured lights . We display all the cards in the dining room along with all the fun Christmas ornaments the dc love.
I'm not sure which room I like the best. The living room is beautiful and so classy but the dining room is full of fun Christmas joy. I love them both.

It's fucking SEPTEMBER!

We fail on many levels - it's great.

Firstly, it's fake one (albeit a v expensive fake). Then we put a mix of coloured and white lights on it as we can't agree which looks better, and finally top it off with tinsel (DH doesn't do Christmas without tinsel), decorations that don't really match and a selection of handmade things that the DCs have made over the years.

It's safe to say that my Christmas house will never, ever appear in Good Housekeeping. Hurrah!

Beautiful, even if I do say myself. I have an assortment of glass vintage, home made and shop brought decs from various places and in various colours. Although most of my vintage decs come from my Grandma. I have white lights and a real 7 foot tree. If I could afford two trees then I would but mine was £46 last year. I also decorate the house with lots of holly, mistletoe, ivy and ever green branches. It takes most of the day to do but I love it. I let my DS decorate the tree with me but often rearrange what he has done once he is in bed (OCD alert!)

i will let the dc's choose some decs, it will be the first christmas my tree is not matching, but i surpose it may look more christmassy.

I've had the same 5ft green one for about seven years and it's looking fairly ropey. If I get another it will be just a normal green one again as I'm not fond of wrongly coloured ones (No offence meant to anyone who does). I've also had the same red, silver and gold decorations on it for a few years so I might get a new colour scheme this year.

they all sound lovely, our tree goes up on the 1st of december, can not wait, but will have to start buying decs soon, so i can buy a few a week, i will be able to reuse a few of the ones i already have,

9ft (height of ceiling), nordman fir, real from garden centre, put up on first weekend of December.
I decorate it with a mixture of old and new, but predominantly red and white, baubles. Buy a new bauble every year, and I prefer glass. White lights all over and a sequinned, feathery bird on top, instead of a fairy/angel!
My second tree is a slim green one, not decided what to do about colourscheme this year as it's only September

I get a big real tree, preferably a Scots Pine, but Nordman if I can't find the Scot's Pine. I usually go for one around 6ft - 7ft so it touches the ceiling.

The decorations are all silver and white because I gave away my gold/red and coloured combinations. As we now have a DD who will appreciate the tree that gives me a great excuse to go shopping for some of those old-fashioned wooden decorations, and I'm thinking perhaps twisted streamers too?

We're planning on decoration the tree overnight so that DD comes down to a decorated room in the morning.

I don't mind the thread, have you lot need to get out more though

Choochoowowwow. But who is this "classy" (hate that word, it's only ever applied to things which are definitely not) perfection intended to impress? It's in a family home, warm and welcoming should be the way to go.

We always have a real tree, so it's different every year.
Decs are always red, white, wooden, silver and gold though.

It's red and gold with glass baubles and clear lights. It's a fake tree though, may do a real one this year. No tinsel, I put it around the pictures on the walls. I'm hiding this thread now.
