A Sindy horse with a "real" mane and tail instead of the moulded one mine had and a real Sindy tent instead of the inflatable Hmm one I had! Oh and the real towering Sindy house instead of <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=Sindy+cardboard+house&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1024&bih=582&tbm=isch&tbnid=2jpdezcggWwwDM:&imgrefurl=www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SINDY-HOME-HOUSE-COMPLETE-BOXED-VINTAGE-PEDIGREE-70s-/160632568814&docid=ewdffQbj0YfyHM&w=300&h=271&ei=sTB6TtjkLOfH0QX349ChAQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=642&page=1&tbnh=137&tbnw=154&start=0&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0&tx=61&ty=62" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this which I had! Seems to be a theme here!

pink4ever · 21/09/2011 19:54

Sorry fatzak but that sindy house really made me laugh my head off! poor you.
I had the barbie house-twas shite. Likes yours was mainly made of paper. My sister had the deluxe motor home and that lasted for years-in fact it became my secret hiding place for contraband when I was a teenager!
I was Envy of friends who had soda streams. We had the solripe man who came every week with bottles of pop-soda streams were for rich folk.

My best ever xmas was when I got the cabbage patch I so longed for. I was very specific about the one I wanted-had to be a boy, bald and the ugliest looking one

Had it and loved it for years til my mums mutt got a hold of itAngry

YokoOhNo · 21/09/2011 19:57

I always wanted a Mr Frosty too! I think it was all the relentless Saturday morning toy advertising on ITV, between chunks of Tiswas, which turned half the thread into Mr Frosty.

Never allowed one either. I sigh with disappointment, even today, 30+ years later and remind my DM that she ruined my life by not buying me one. They were unhygenic, apparently Hmm. I had to make friends with Trisha up the road who had one with all the bits and bobs, including the blue syrup stuff that my parents particularly reviled.

PersonalClown · 21/09/2011 20:12

I'm going to go against all of you.

I wanted a Boglin. I was and still am a tomboy and boys toys were so much cooler.
He man, original Transformers, Monsters in my Pockets, Were Bears.
I wasn't allowed them because I was a girl.
I got Barbies, Sindys, Fashion Wheel etc

I wanted things that looked ugly, made noise and were slimy!!

YokoOhNo · 21/09/2011 20:16

Mr Frosty was pretty slimy from what I remember of Trisha-Up-The-Road's.

Oh god, maybe my Dm was right! They ARE unhygenic Grin

pramsgalore · 21/09/2011 20:18

oh i remember fashion wheel, i got dd1 one from the car boot, i loved it, she was not so keen Grin
my little sis had a transformer, it was really big and shot missiles can not remember what it changed into though, i had a little professer and a speak and spell well that did not work Blush

pramsgalore · 21/09/2011 20:33

An electric train on a proper landscape was my dream present. My mother thought it was ridiculous that a girl had a train at all (a cast off from a cousin).

MaryQueenOfSpots · 21/09/2011 20:38

My ILs have absolutely no idea about popular culture.

DH asked for a Raleigh Chopper bike for Xmas when he was a boy.

He got a Raleigh Shopper bike Grin

CroissantNeuf · 21/09/2011 20:42

BluddyMoFo -I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your post especially the headphones.

Thats the sort of thing that used to happen with me and clothes - I would see something in the shops I really wanted so my mum (and her trusty sewing machine) would run one up....only it was nothing like not quite like the one in the shop Hmm

pramsgalore · 21/09/2011 20:43

Grin poor dh
i asked dp what he really wanted and never got and he said nothing Hmm mummys boy Grin

A walking, barking dog toy (looked a bit like Sweep from Sooty and Sweep)but my mother reckoned the noise would get on her nerves

An oven thing to make 'delicious cakes' but my mother reckoned you couldn't get re-fills

A little teddy bear with grippy paws which gripped onto your lapel.

Didn't get any of them Sad

nickelbabe · 22/09/2011 14:22

I had a walking, barking dog.
It used to walk, bark, then jump a bit, then stop. then start again!

Great thread, like a wander through an old toy shop.

Would have sold a body part for a Girls World Styling Head but my mother absolutely refused to buy it for me. Not even for birthdays or Christmas. Was on my Santa list for years. Sad I bought DD one even though she didn't ever ask for one & is she interested? Nah!

Also desperately wanted a Daisy doll. I remember to this day crying with disappointment in my bedroom when I asked for her for Christmas & got a Tiny Tears instead!

pramsgalore · 22/09/2011 22:10

its had me looking through ebay at my old toys Grin i still miss my sindy house

I wasn't even aware of Barbie when I was a child - I had a Daisy Doll (she was fab, so elegant and all those Mary Quant clothes!) but wanted a Sindy because she was bigger. Never got one (and in hindsight that was fine - Daisy was waaay better) I still have Skating Daisy - she had shorted hair than the others (more manageable) and poseable legs (until the bendy stuff snapped in the ankle and knees...)

So sad when parents sell their DC toys before they're ready - my Mum had all her toys given away when she was seven, FGS, apart from 3 teddies. Consequently we never lost any of ours - she was too traumatised by it. :(

Bugsy2 · 23/09/2011 11:30

Thumbwitch, even after all these years, I am still envious that you had a Daisy.

nickelbabe · 23/09/2011 11:47

we had Sindy - in our minds, Barbie was crap.

Thumbwitch · 23/09/2011 11:47

Bugsy - just for you :)

Thumbwitch · 23/09/2011 11:51

Ohhh, just looking down that page I linked to brought back so many memories! Playing spot the outfit that I had - definitely had the Raincoat outfit and the Candyfloss top, and possibly a few others there (but not many, I made far more clothes for her than bought)
