mins was Mr Frosty too.
and i damned near got one, too, but I had confirmed my request to my dad in front of a "friend" who then said that they were crap, and that I really didn't want one, that I would regret it.

Dad took the word of my "friend" and i didn't get one.

i didn't care if it was crap!

GetOrfMo1Land · 21/09/2011 17:15

Yes, it looks as if I have inherited the tradition of desperately wanting to keep my daughter's toys for myself.

She always mixed up the colours of the play doh as well

Georgimama · 21/09/2011 17:15

If it helps they were rubbish. The lolly maker part worked but the ice crushing bit was rubbish. That makes for a very expensive lolly mould. And the flavourings must have been developed in Porton Down, I tell you.

GetOrfMo1Land · 21/09/2011 17:16

I really, really want a soda stream now.

Did anyone have one of those as a kid?

They were an unimaginable luxury as a child. It was a great treat to be allowed a panda pop limeade, let alone have POP ON TAP in the house.

OriginalPoster · 21/09/2011 17:18

Not a toy as such, but always wanted a bike that was mine and not handed on...

Still haven't got one Confused

Georgimama · 21/09/2011 17:18
Blush

Yes we had one of those too. You could get Irn Bru cordial for it, and Tizer. My dad was big on the gadgets, we had one of the first microwaves in about 1981 and I swear the thing was bigger than our cooker. Like a nuclear reactor on the kitchen counter.

pramsgalore · 21/09/2011 17:19

we had one, they were lovely!!!!!!!!
bought one a few years ago and they are not lovely now Sad

pramsgalore · 21/09/2011 17:23

i bet my magic roundabout would have been worth a bit now, i keep looking at the sindy houses on ebay wondering if dd would want one, but has to be the one i had though with the lift up the side, 1st floor kitchen and bathroom, 2nd floor lounge 3rd bedroom and roof top garden [sighs] Grin

I wanted a Barbie doll or a Sindy but was never allowed to have one! I spent every Saturday morning looking with longing at all the lovely accessories that were stocked in ironmongers/feed store as my Nanna bought the chicken's food for the week.

I wasn't totally deprived as we then went on to the Saturday market and she always bought me an American comic, Caspar or one of the action heroes and then a lovely Italian ice-cream as she had a cuppa and a Chelsea bun or Lardy cake.

Mind you I had to carry 2 5lb bags of spuds on the way home!!

I am not one of the grandmothers who think 'what was good enough for me is good enough for you' and I am glad to see my grandchildren having Lego, Playmobil and the amazing Wii, Kinect. But I developed a passion for reading that never left me and for that I will always be grateful.

I had the opportunity to have Barbies and Sindy with my daughter, though that damn feminist viewpoint does take the gloss off!!

(I'm dying to see if she comes on here and guilt-trips me over some toy I was too tight refused to buy for her!)

Georgimama · 21/09/2011 17:25

My cousin had the Sindy house. Envy She really was the child who had everything. I got her Barbie camper van as a hand me down - in fact it is now in my mum's shed and DS plays with it (minus all the accessories and stickers now, he thinks it is the Scooby Doo mystery machine).

Fo0ffyShmooffer · 21/09/2011 17:27

A Scalextric. So badly wanted one for years but nope, never materialised.

Georgimama · 21/09/2011 17:28

They're rubbish if you've got dogs, or indeed any kind of fluff on the carpet. A toy that promises much more than it delivers.

God yes I was terrified of my gran's microwave, she too got one of the first models, it was enormous and sat there emitting a chernobyl like hum on top of the fridge.

I broke it when I microwaved a spoon.

Have just started another thread to reminiscne on crayola porn.

Georgimama · 21/09/2011 17:35

See that is a whole level of inventiveness our children miss out on in these more prosperous (even with credit crunch) times. Cane you imagine what your son would do if you presented him with a dish of jam to sniff on Christmas morning?

Actually I have just remembered when Blue Peter tried to make a Sindy house. Must be on youtube somewhere...

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 21/09/2011 18:06

ooh yes, early microwaves. It took two men to carry ours into the kitchen and us kids were not allowed within five feet of it. Ten feet when it was on.

ginmakesitallok · 21/09/2011 18:12

Always always wanted a sodastream - my cousins had one and no matter how much I argued with Mum that it would SAVE us money I never got one. I think I'd like your Mum Shineoncrazydiamond!

crystalglasses · 21/09/2011 19:17

shineoncrazy diamond, you made me laugh! I had a strawberry shortcake doll and the smell made me feel so ill I stuffed it at the back of my cupboard and eventually threw it away.

Coca · 21/09/2011 19:34

I've just remembered more of my parents' weird toy related thinking. Barbies were frowned upon whereas Sindy was ok as her figure was deemed more attainable! Poor old frumpy Sindy with her enormous head.

Becaroooo · 21/09/2011 19:37

A Tiny Tears doll
A Girls World

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/09/2011 19:41

A Barbie House - with lift
A Poochie dog soft toy
A Rainbow Bright doll
A Care Bear

I did have a Mr Frosty, Dairy Milk dispenser and a Girls world though.

ohnoshedittant · 21/09/2011 19:45

Dream phone (I saw one in a charity shop a while ago and was so close to buying it!)
One of those things where you move the loop round the wire without touching it and if you do touch it, it buzzes
