DP hates turkey and is making a pheasant in a duck in a goose Xmas Hmm

That's if our oven is fixed in time!

We're having a chicken. I prefer the flavour, and most turkeys are too big - we would be eating turkey for years afterwards.

DH, inlaws and I are having sausage and mash with onion gravy and Champagne.

My DCs will be at their dad's from 22nd to 28th so we will have a turkey when they come back.

But for Christmas it is bangers.

Cannot wait.

cryhavoc · 15/12/2010 17:55

Rib of beef. Big enough that I can ruin fully cook the edges for FIL and it still be raw rare in the middle for DH and I.

EatingAngelPie · 15/12/2010 17:57

OOh, I love nut roast.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 15/12/2010 18:10

Duck I think.

TooTiredtoGoogle · 15/12/2010 18:47

Goose ... for the first time ever.

Lavitabellissima · 15/12/2010 18:48

I've never tried nut roast, did anyone see the one on This Morning? Looked nice but Holly and Phil were a bit mean about veggies.

Riven what flavour pizza Xmas Grin?

heres my menu

ChoudeBruxelles · 15/12/2010 18:50

Roast rib of beef. Lovely - far better than turkey.

mazzystartled · 15/12/2010 18:52

24 hour slow roast pork

SummerRain · 15/12/2010 18:53

Venison.

My parents have never cooked a turkey and neither have I.... Poor dp is going into turkey withdrawal after 6 years of not having one but none of us can stand it... horrible dry unpleasant meat!

bisybackson · 15/12/2010 18:56

Duck. We are only us for Christmas this year (me, DH, 2 DCs) so turkey is too big and I cook chicken too often for it to be interesting.

Your DH's goose/duck/pheasant sounds yum but huge. How many of you are there?

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 15/12/2010 19:07

Pork. We tend to have goose when we are cooking (generally venison or duck if my mother is cooking, never anything other than turkey if MIL is cooking) but this year we fancied pork with lots of crackling.

iceandlemon · 15/12/2010 19:10

We are having capon. Turkey is gross.

Lavitabellissima · 15/12/2010 19:58

There are 10 of us & my 6 week old twin girls Xmas Grin

What's Capon?

Roast Beef, most of a cow to feed 10.

I once got up early to cook a huge Goose but instead grilled it for 2 hours till i realised.
Very crispy skinGrin

malovitt · 15/12/2010 20:06

Fillet steak.

girlywhirly · 16/12/2010 09:15

Chicken from the local butcher, always good and never been disappointed.

BirdyBedtime · 16/12/2010 09:19

We're having duck too as its just me, DH and 2 DCs and I can't be bothered with the faff of doing a roast. Few mins on the chargrill and 10 mins in the oven and that will be us. Although I am still doing roasties, stuffing baked in the oven and the usual veg - Dh and I both love sprouts but very rarely have then so will be making sure we have plenty.

BirdyBedtime · 16/12/2010 09:19

Sorry, should have said duck breasts rather than the whole thing!

horrorcomic · 16/12/2010 09:23

I am going to have Ham. I am currently trying to decide whether to have a go at Nigella's method of cooking it in Cherry Coke. We will have roast parsnips/Spuds with it. Probably sprouts with Bacon and Red Cabbage.
