We did ours last night. It is always a fight. I don't know why, the children get worried because I am concentrating on something, and so start to destroy the furniture and hit each other with sticks.

I don't know why it is always like this.

But it's up, at least for now (used a bucket filled with gravel - was this wise? It's easy to adjust the angle, but doesn't seem to have fallen over yet.

hmmmmmm.

This subject has already been done. No way will it go up until near Christmas-or it will be bald by the time it is needed. I bet you get so fed up it is down on Boxing Day! I don't know why people don't have their Christmas Day early and get it all over with!!

EnnisDelMar · 28/11/2010 08:58

Thanks Pisces. I know it's been done. Everything's been done on here.

I think I will take you up on your suggestion and have Christmas day today, though, seeing as the internet world is clearly in such a generous and broadminded mood.

Can we come to yours, then?

I've got crackers and a pudding. And a tin of Quality Street.

DCs want to do ours today because it is snowing Hmm

Do you put all your decorations up now, or just the tree?

Blackduck · 28/11/2010 09:12

Mines up (partly because if I didn't do it this weekend it would never get done - away every weekend til Christmas now....)

Pheebe · 28/11/2010 09:33

Our decs are up, most of pressies are bought and I'm gradually sticking up of foody treats.

Bah humbug to you pisces Grin I looovvvee christmas and will not be taking them down til the weekend before the kids go back to school!

Pheebe · 28/11/2010 09:34

stocking up on!

Seems the flashing lights have got to me Wink

Saltire · 28/11/2010 09:36

My friend has hers up, and is, as we speak, cooking turkey, and setting a table with crackers. On Monday her DH sets off for Afghansitan, and her DCs wantd to have Christmas dinner with their dad before he left

I don't know when ours is going up, as I have a toucher as a mindee who will almost certianly pull it over and strip it on a daily basis.

onimolap · 28/11/2010 09:56

Still too early for us (as we've a December birthday to mark before we put the tree up). But as it's Advent Sunday today, I don't think it's generally too early any more.

piscesmoon · 28/11/2010 09:56

I think that is fair enough Saltire-I would do the same-but not when I am aiming for 25th.
On the other thread I mentioned the Stanford marshmallow test here If you as an adult can't wait -there isn't much hope for your DC!

BudaisintheZONE · 28/11/2010 10:03

Not yet. No way. Think it will be weekend of 11th/12th as I want a real tree and figure it will last longer if I wait till then. And there are no real trees available here yet as the Hungarians only put their trees up on Christmas Eve.

Will do lights outside etc next weekend as do all our neighbours as Miklaus (St Nicholas) comes on 6th and leaves sweets in children's shoes. Some get toys now too but the tradition is sweets/chocolate and a stick if they have been naughty. As they figure every child is at least a little bit naughty you can buy little bunches of gold sprayed sticks to put in!

And onimolp - thanks for Advent Sunday reminder! Will get Advent candle wreath out later.

EnnisDelMar · 28/11/2010 11:51

Buda that's lovely. I have always liked the St Nicholas tradition.

It's not about impulse control, Pisces. It's more that if I don't do it this weekend, I fear I shan't find the time, energy or inclination on subsequent weekends.

It's four weeks, that's not a massive amount of time. It means the few visitors we do have will see our tree, we have no family coming at Christmas so nobody will get to share it with us if we put it up the day before.

It cheers up our living room and gets us in a nicer mood (once it's UP that is, the putting up thereof is another matter!)

I think part of me actually dreads the whole thing, so it's a case of getting it done while I still have some enthusiasm.

Same with present buying, that's mostly done too.

Also I always have a massive urge to throw the tree out on the day after Christmas, and tidy everything up. This is such a big part of Christmas for me, it would be a shame to have only a day or two of tree and prettiness - and I like seeing other people's trees up now it's dark when we come out of school etc.

In short, I need cheering up, whatever anyone else thnks!!

Showaddywaddy · 28/11/2010 12:05

I put mine up last night. Of course I had the requisite cry when the lights were irrevocably tangled and swore mildly several times throughout the whole process.

But I needed to do it last night too. I need to feel like I'm at home and Christmas helps with that. Sod it, it's the first Sunday in advent and Christmas cheer is sorely needed here.

EnnisDelMar · 28/11/2010 14:24

How does it look, Showy? I'm actually fairly pleased with ours though it does look like it could go over at any given moment Hmm

OP posts:
happybubblebrain · 28/11/2010 14:28

We put ours up today, with Christmas music playing and it looks lovely. We're feeling very festive now.

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 28/11/2010 14:28

Mine will go up on wednesday. Always the 1st here. There is also the added bonus of the DC being at school, so I can get the lights positioned nicely. And maybe the tinsel. And a few decs. In fact, I might just let them put the chocolate baubles on

wubblybubbly · 28/11/2010 14:31

Just put ours up today Grin.

Ridicously early no doubt, but I don't care. I've had a shitty year and am so looking forward to christmas this year, might as well make it last as long as possible.

It looks a bit lopsided on the ornaments because DS did the decorating, but I love it.

wubblybubbly · 28/11/2010 14:32

ridiculously even Blush

QueeferSantaland · 28/11/2010 14:34

Mine is going up tomorrow according to DH. He is a)excitable and b)working every day in December.

Showaddywaddy · 28/11/2010 14:34

It looks like home.

It's lopsided, there are too many big decorations at the top, dd got a bit carried away with it all and it's probably utterly naff. But I don't care.

FrostyBaubles · 28/11/2010 14:37

I put ours up yesterday afternoon as we are out every weekend hereafter, then after dinner fil came round to tell us mil had passed away Sad

It's still up & i have asked dh if he wants me to take it down but he wants it to stay up.

MiasmARGGG · 28/11/2010 14:38

I got it out of the loft yesterday and bought a real potted one too that's in the garden atm. I'll probably put it up next weekend, I'd like to do it the 11th but I don't think I'll ve able to hold out quite that long. I don't really know what I am going to do with the real one, I might have it in the kitchen.

I love Christmas Grin

EnnisDelMar · 28/11/2010 14:39

Yikes. I am so sorry, Frosty. What a horrible shock.

Showy, the naff ones are definitely the best ones IMHO. Smile

OP posts:
FrostyBaubles · 28/11/2010 14:41

It was a shock,we only have the tree up atm,i will put the rest of the decs up after the funeral now i think.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 28/11/2010 14:49

Sod that, if I had my way i'd sleept through it
