Well we seem to have filled up the last one so I started a new one. Hope that is ok with everyone!

Jacaqueen - I finally remembered to have a look at my Angel Chime. It is small - about 10 inches tall. Very light metal. Easy to put together. Looks ok. Word of warning - was searching for who it was who asked me and came across a post from someone whose parents had one and it burnt their table! So they get v. hot.

Should have said YouTube is excellent for clips of how to do things you've forgotten with knitting!

sunshine - if you did one big square cake & then cut it down, you could tie a ribbon round it so that it looks nice on the side. not sure how that would affect its shelf life, though.

fruit cake is in the oven for MUCH longer than sponge cake, but you could always mix it up, bake one, and see. the batter will last for a few days in the fridge, so you could do a few trials, then revert back to the big cake to cut up option if nothing works.

no idea on christmas puddings - i only eat my mum's.

Being smug is the whole point of poncetastic!!

I have bought all my Christmas cards (pretty easy actuallly as they're all from the PTA) and am currently compiing my CHristmas card spreadsheet. I aim to have them written and addressed and stamped by the end of next week. How's that for smug?!

Hello, can I join?

I don't really qualify as properly poncetastic: no chutneys or homemade cakes yet. In my defence I have been out and found larch cones, sprayed them gold and got DS to dip them in glitter.

I do also have oranges with cloves stuck in them sitting on woodburner right now. (Taffeta - My oranges sort of dry out with the cloves in them, so they don't go mouldy. On the other hand they go very dark and not very fresh looking so I'll redo them for Christmas Day)

I have been lurking for a while but after a very productive Sunday I am prepared to declare my presence.

We have made all our Christmas cards over the past few weeks. I got loads of these and we have clued them onto a square of Christmassy paper then onto a card and hand written messages in silver pen on black paper to put in the peg. Dd (2.5yo) loved it. Made hand print angels for family cards from her. Will use rest of the pegs to attach our homemade Christmas tags. These are fab on black card with a hole punched hole in corner for tying for to presents.

A Tiger has just opened locally so we bought loads of Christmas tree tins for our homemade chocolates and silk boxes for the £1 candle holders we are going to wrap in lovely tissue paper and make look a lot more luxe.

Now on to thinking about food. We have a very poncetastic Fortnum & Mason hamper arriving on 23rd with lots of tasty bits (from dp's work). Am cooking Christmas dinner for 8 - not turkey here but will do gammon, beef and probably a salmon. No started ideas yet.

I have put up my Xmas decorations today! Could not hold off any longer. DD was on the verge of tuning feral.

I can say that it is the WORST JOB EVER!!
I hate hate hate it. Love having the house all pretty and Xmasy but hate put them up adn taking them down. Tree looks like I sat at one end of the room and flung the decorations with gay abandon.

Although, I am particulary proud of my wall of wreaths. Tres pretty, even if I do say so myself.

Well I have been quite productive, marmalade made, a tray of mince pies made and frozen, hyacinths in the cold futility room, about 80 percent of presents bought, all advent stocking gifts bought, and bought these lights for the kitchen.

Need to touch my mate for some Chinese lanterns from her garden now.....

There is nothing poncetastic about putting one's tree up in November imho.

Ghoul I agree totally. My DD (4) however does not care! My sanity could not survive any longer.

It's my own stupid fault for telling her that Xmas tree goes up after Halloween. She has been wearing me down since 1st Nov.

CAn I join in please? Christmas starts in December at our house (after my birthday) but I'm going to make:
the wreath - I've got the xupplies
the advent calendar - ditto
DS2 his first stocking, I've made everyone else theirs already over the years. Our cat had one for years.
Christmas spice biscuits and lebkuchen
mince pies
table linen - I have avintage cloth I want to tart up

Does that count as pontastic? I'm a rubbish cook so will concentrate on the crafty stuff I think.

If anyone is planning to make their own wreath or table centrepiece, Wilkinsons had oasis rings in the Christmas section last week.

I shall be taking a walk in the local woods soon to see what greenery I can find!

Have made my salt dough decorations finally.

They look, um, interesting. The kids were very in to making them which was fab but they are very colourful and dd's look like a glitter factory exploded on them. Still, they'll look very twinkly on the tree!

Need to do my oranges and lemons next week, does anyone air dry them in the airing cupboard, and if so how do you stop them going a bit moldy? Cheers.

Oh quiltingmoomin - what did you put in your cat's stocking? DH thinks I'm insane but the DC would be so sad if Santa didn't leave him anything. Its his first Christmas as he's a Feb birthday. Grin

I have a few play balls - any other tips?

On the cloves in oranges subject - I too want to know how to stop them going mouldy, also where to buy lots of cloves cheaply and finally how you string them up please? Come on cloveyorange ladies - share your secrets.

Our cat gets a stocking full of cat treats, which she gets a ration of every day. Pets at home do catnip scented bubbles, the DC might enjoy blowing those for him to try to 'catch'!

I buy cloves cheap at the Chinese supermarket in huge bags. Mine don't go mouldy - I put them on teh radiators but, like someone else said, they do go brown and hard.

My mother has made me a christmas cake and pudidng (nobody really eats it so I refuse to put any effort in myself). We don't put up decorations until 12 days before, which is good really as my house is very small and I tend to get a bit claustrophic with an enormous tree in one corner of the sitting-toom.

I have finally finally finished Christmas shopping bar two books I need to buy for my father. I'm very pleased and smug-tastic about this. My White Company order is due to appear this afternoon and I have already eaten two mince pies just while typing this am feeling particularly Christmassy this afternoon! Got a v busy week coming up so not more preparations til the weekend but I aim to send off teh overseas cards & parcels by then plus start writing the cards...
Love the idea of catnit-scented bubbles!
