DS(7) is getting his first ever ds but its joint between me and my ex and dd(2.5) is getting a microscooter and thats it apart from the little stocking stuff.

Even the presents I am getting give me a little spoiling guilt - compared to what we used to get at Christmas in the 70s.

Hang on - I have pursed lips of my own now, having read the thread.

Why would any parent buy a copy of the latest COD game for a 13YO? Is bad, is very bad. It is an 18-rated game, the whole basis of which (I understand) is to assassinate Fidel Castro.

DD (12 nearly 13) ventured to suggest the bloody thing could be a stocking filler. Major eruption from me. So unsuitable on so many levels

Both dds want a camera this year. Makes things easy.

dd1 also want s a shirt from h&m
dd2 also wants a calendar.

I'm with you on the COD thing quattrocento.

God yes, Quattro. There's a whole thread on COD, with various people attempting to justify giving it to children. Appalling.

A play silk is essentially a piece of silk normally dyed that can be used in anyway a child's imagination takes it. Mine already have them and use them to make dens, use as capes, blankets for dolls, use as a river. Well the list is endless. Myriadonline.co.uk sell them but I've ordered an even bigger one from the USA.

BelligerentGhoul · 14/11/2010 18:44

Oh that is a lovely idea, thanks. I guess sari fabric from the charity shop would work too?

Report
mumtotwoplustwo · 14/11/2010 20:12

I guess so. The idea of the silk is that it is very light and floaty (think waving in the air like wings) but I don't think it really matters.

I know my 2 dc get far too much BUT to be fair to them they dont ask for much at all and lots of what I buy are small stocking fillers like £3 dvds and chocolate reindeers.

My youngest is too young to understand the concept but my eldest is fully aware that there are many many children who get nothing for xmas...we sponsor a child in africa and we also do parcels for the salvation army and local charities at xmas time. Shoebox appeal etc. He is also involved with his local beaver pack who perform charitable tasks year round.

I dont think lots of xmas gifts = ungrateful spoilt child. Parental attitudes make children those things, not gift giving.

DS (nearly 6) is getting from us:
Playmobil crane and construction conveyer belt thing!
A lego alarm clock radio.
A Top Gear dvd,Top Gear Top Trumps and a Stiggy Bank (see a theme going here!)

In laws are getting him some kind of of music player as he keeps borrowing DH's i-pod...I think its going to have to be a shuffle as we've got a Mac and can't get other music files on here which is really frustrating.

My parents have got him some mecanno and a game which he will love.

He has literally only asked for 2 things and we haven't got him either of them...he wants a turntable for his trainset which I wouldn't mind getting as he is totally obsessed with trains and would play with them all day long but its a Hornby one and the turntable plus more track would be double the price of the train set in the first place.
He has also had his eye on something called a RoboRover which is like a robotic dog...again wouldn't mind cause Id know he'd play with it but its £80 and definitely not worth the money.

Only other thing he has requested for the last 2 birthdays/christmas's is to meet James May who is his absolute idol...no idea how Im going to make that happen!

DD did want The Zoo, that soft toy cage thing. £80 Shock. Luckily she now wants some interactive wild baby animal thing for a tenner. The relief. I'll add a vet dressing up costume and that'll be her big present from me.
ExH is doing the hamster thingy, the whizzy ones. Two I think.
GP getting a clock and something else, not sure what
ExPIL usually do clothes
Other GPs (divorced parents) always buy random car boot stuff that won't work properly Grin.

And Father Christmas will bring a stocking full of pens, chocolate coins, socks, bubble bath and a few toys around the £2-3 mark.

We've decided, DD and I, to save some of our Christmas money towards the Zoo thing i the New Year. It's a shame I can't get it on clubcard points!

I am getting my daughter a bike this year! Its a old favorate big and impressive where my budget is not completly crumpled.

Last year I got her a Wigwam play tent she LOVED it and was great as you can use it indoors and outside too so we got way more use out of it than I thought we would.

To be fair though its still looks great!!

I was also thinking about getting a TV for my 14 year old son, but frankly the types available are leaving me in a cold sweat....Confused
