Are playmobil advent calenders any good??

Hi

My mother wants to get Dcs an advent calender each but DD (2.9) is severely intolerant to dairy, soya & oats so chocolate is out Sad

I have been thinking about a playmobil advent calender for DS (5) anyway but wondering if DD is too young??

And if they do different ones, would not want to get them the same iyswim

Also are they worth the money!!

TIA

Just marking really. I have been looking at them - they do different ones which seem to vary in price (check on amazon). My DS is 3 he has a couple of playmobil figures and I though I might start collecting now. Also I believe you can repack and use again.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/11/2010 23:17

Oh they are fabulous I think. I wonder if 2 is a bit young though...

You could just go for a picture calendar. That's what my DC had until we discovered playmobil and lego ones last year.

simpson · 09/11/2010 23:22

If DD has a picture one then DS will have to have one as well iyswim.

I have heard that they can be repackaged to be used again (which I would do with DD's one) the next yr.

Grrr if only she could have chocolate it would make life soooo much easier!!!

If you like playmobil (I do) they are fabulous. Although the older sets that had little indivudal boxes that you make up and hang on a board are a bit better than the newer ones.

My DS has had a few, but he's moving on to lego this year as he's 8 and obsessed with lego.

I'm tempted to buy the new Playmobil Christmas Post Office one for myself. It has a little postbox and letters and father christmas and a reindeer and a sleigh and an elf and everything.

Tikkabillajive · 09/11/2010 23:34

simpson, my two dcs have always just had one to share and it seems to work out ok! We've got the Father Christmas post office one this year and I am definitely going to keep it for future years this time - previously we've just added them to the collection.

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:36

Well you know what I think now...

If you like Playmobil they are fab! And they do several, so you could get different ones for each dc.

DinahRod · 09/11/2010 23:40

2 would be too young imo. You could get a traditional one likethis and fill it with what you want

JarethTheGoblinKing · 09/11/2010 23:42

DS is 2.11 and he's getting one for xmas.

The playmobil takeover began about 3 months ago with one single deep-sea diver. Soon they shall take over the living room. They are currently confined to a trofast drawer, but they're planning on expansion

(sorry - they seem to breed though...)

icapturethecastle · 09/11/2010 23:50

Think the post office will have to be purchased it looks very cute. Just a shame it seems £10 more than the Christmas Forest.

DreamTeamGirl · 10/11/2010 00:07

They are fab
Remember you have to assemble the older ones tho and dont wait till December 1st to look at it Smile

JarethTheGoblinKing · 10/11/2010 00:14

I was expecting to have to assemble DS's, but was disappointed to see that they've clearly been on MN and now designed them so they take minimal effort to construct [pout]

dearprudence · 10/11/2010 22:47

Assembling the playmobil advent calendar is a lovely festive activity. Almost as nice as wrapping the father christmas presents.

MollieO · 10/11/2010 22:52

dearprudence I assume you are being ironic. Grin

mylifewithstrangers · 10/11/2010 22:56

Just a suggestion for an alternative. How about getting a reuseable one that you can fill with your own plastic tat gifts and reuse every year. Surely it wouldn't hurt them to share?

We're getting this one. It comes with it's own gifts, but you can add others too. I'll probably put a choc coin in a couple of the pockets, but also some 'promise vouchers' such as 'make biscuits with Mummy', 'Daddy will read a story' etc.

dearprudence · 10/11/2010 22:56

Ironic? No way! I like playmobil much more than my DS ever did (have done since I was a child and they were called playpeople). I get all excited and christmassy when I get all the pieces out and make it up. Grin

And now DS wants a lego one.

MollieO · 10/11/2010 23:07

I enjoy assembling the calendar but I don't enjoy assembling the fecking box and assembling and putting the little feckers in the correct order!

Tikkabillajive · 10/11/2010 23:37

dearprudence me too! I am very sad that they are already assembled this year. And I'm glad someone else called them playpeople!

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 00:13

mylifewithstrangers - I hope you are not comparing Playmobil with plastic tat! Shock

Playmobil may be made out of plastic, but it certainly isn't tat!

It's wonderful stuff! And if you disagree, I may have to send the Playmobil police over to arrest you Wink

zipzap · 11/11/2010 12:02

they have the forest one in sainsbury's for £9.99 at the moment - out of stock on the website but you can put your email address in for the m to send you an email when it is back in.

I've just got one from John Lewis which was £12ish as they had money off (20%?) lots of playmobil stuff and spotted the sainsburys one a couple of days later so think it is the cheapest around (assuming they come back into stock while on offer!)

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 12:07

The reason the Post Office one is so much more expensive is because it is a new set generally available only in Germany. So it will have been imported specially. It will probably be available over here next year at the normal price.

simpson · 11/11/2010 12:45

I bought the horse ranch one for DD (seemed to have the least small peices in Smile)

And the knight/dragon one for DS (5)

They were quite pricy £18 each Shock Shock

But I had a £10 voucher for The Entertainer so that helped Grin

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 12:50

Oooh, the prices are expensive in the Entertainer. I have ordered our advent claendar from the Playmobil website (I was ordering other stuff at the same time, so got free delivery).

onadietcokebreak · 11/11/2010 12:53

mylifewithstrangers
We have one of those and will take your suggestion on. What a lovely idea.

simpson · 11/11/2010 13:07

somuch - if it was not for the voucher I would have got them online tbh.

Will be more prepared for next year Grin

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 13:31

It's disappointing simpson, that the Entertainer is so expensive, a real rip-off IMO, but it's now the only toy shop we have in our town (apart from ELC which doesn't sell much Playmobil).

We used to have a Co-op department store with a really fab toy department at reasonable prices. Sadly it got sold off to another company, and a few months later they went into liquidation, so it's now closed down. I really miss it Sad. Ds and I used to spend ages browsing the huge selection of Playmobil in there.
