is there one this year? I bought loads of things in the sales that i put away for this year, but given that last years seemed so much hard work (bless you norma) i am not sure anyone would want to take it on?

It's too early to talk about that yet. There were a few people last year said they would be willing to organise it but normally nothing gets started until November ish anyway.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/08/2010 11:56

It's AUGUST! Enough with the christmas threads (pleads)

jetcat · 09/08/2010 11:57

thanks sag - i thought it may be a bit early - i just love christmasGrin

Grr, ds keeps telling me it's 4 months and 15/14 days away, 4 times a day. I'm loosing the will to live!

iamsad · 09/08/2010 12:21

I think that maybe half the problem with the christmas appeal is that it takes so long to do.
So maybe starting it a bit earlier, ie october, with nominations done by end of oct. matches compleated for last week of nov and emailed out for first week of dec.

Im sure if it helped it run smoother.. nobody would mind it being a little earlier.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/08/2010 12:24

I've not got the summer sorted out yet (sticks head in the sand).

I just need a holiday (sobs), oh, and to wake up tomorrow to normal eyes and a job offer (wail) Sad Life isn't good at my house at the moment. I'm going to hide all theads that mention christmas!

redderthanred · 09/08/2010 15:44

actually - i dont mind organising it - as long as i can do it early ish.

ive been on mn since 2006 so have see a fair few xmas appeals.

plus i have quite a bit of spare time and have recieved from mn santa in the past, im not ( and wont be ) in a position to donate... so this would be a nice way to give back.

let me know... or am i going to regret this?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 09/08/2010 18:10

email MNHQ, I think a couple of people offered very early in the year Smile

cherrymonster · 11/08/2010 21:54

i have offered to help with the appeal this year, and mnhq accepted, but i dont expect anything will be done for a little while yet though. i do agree that it needs to be started a bit earlier this year though, perhaps have all nominations in by the end of october, and sort from there

bellavita · 13/08/2010 11:17

It needs an early start. I think maybe end of Sept to put an email out asking for nominees and donators. All names and addresses need to be out to donators by the last week in November. Everyone has different work and budget commitments, so this way it gives everybody a chance to plan.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 13/08/2010 11:23

I didn't mind but I ended up sending a missed child a present last year. Is it possible for it to be just for the mumsnetters and not their children?? or if someone wishes to include children, something that is general (chocolate) so they can share? Blush It could get costly if gifts for the whole family are being sent, there's also the risk of a child being left out. (runs off quickly)

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 13/08/2010 11:24

God, I feel evil now, sorry.

PandaEis · 13/08/2010 12:09

i want to help with the appeal this year cos i am going to be in a position to donate (shopping vouchers prob) and i always miss the start and dont end up doing any helpingHmm

what is usually sent? is it prezzies? or would the vouchers be ok?? i dont mind using the vouchers to buy prezzies withSmile

how do i join in??

HappyMummyOfOne · 14/08/2010 17:01

I think it would be a shame to exclude the children, most people prefer their children to have presents rather than themselves. Or let the donor decide for themselves - ie say the person has x,y and z in the house and then they can choose to just buy for the MN or the children themselves.

Perhaps the families with more than one child can simply be matched with donors sending chocolate/vouchers etc rather than be split between donors to ensure nobody is missed out.

I agree it needs to be earlier, I had to send mine two days before xmas last year as I didnt get the address until late so dont think it made it in time. A follow up after would be good too so that people can check that parcels arrvived where no thanks are put on the thread.

BuzzingNoise · 14/08/2010 17:07

it might take stress away if it starts earlier. September is next month! I was a very lucky receiver last year and I'd like to donate this year.
I took part in a pre-Christmas swap last year which was fun. Anyone up for an autumn swap?

bellavita · 16/08/2010 11:57

I too think it would be a shame to exclude the children.

cherrymonster · 20/08/2010 00:04

right, well i will get in touch with mnhq and volunteer my services again, but i dont think i will be able to do it by myself, so will need help. any volunteers? think it would be good to have one person sorting the list of what is offered, then hand it to next person to match with nominees, and then hand to someone else to send out the email with the nominees details to the senders. 3 people sound about right?

HappyMummyOfOne · 20/08/2010 17:26

I'd be happy to help Smile

jetcat · 20/08/2010 21:31

i would love to help, but think it may well overwhelm and consume meBlush May as well be honest now, rather than try it and make a total hash of it!

cherrymonster · 21/08/2010 11:44

right, i will email mnhq later today and see about starting the appeal end of september i think, with a view to having the matches done by the end of october to be sent out first week of november, then will be plenty of time to get things packed up and sent to be with the recipients in time for christmas.

happymummyofone- i think if a recipient has more than one child, then maybe multiple donors would be a good idea to make sure that each member of the family has at least one gift

cherrymonster · 22/08/2010 18:35

right- have emailed mnhq, just waiting to hear back from them now. will post when i know more

SummerRain · 22/08/2010 18:43

I'm happy to help where i can, I've received in the past and it made such a huge impact on our christmas that year.

Am jobless so have time to spare. I'm in Ireland so not sure if that rules me out but I know there are usually some Irish and N irish recipients and givers so if i could help by co-ordinating things over here I'm happy to do it, or obviously any other way i can help out Smile

BuzzingNoise · 22/08/2010 18:44

cherrymonster, you are a star.

sorrento56 · 22/08/2010 18:52

belle - don't feel mean. I was caught on the hop when given a match with more people than I could really afford to buy for and it kind of spoilt things a bit for me as I was so worried about what I did send. I never heard if they liked the gifts either.Sad
