Sharing Sunday services

Thought I’d start a new thread where we can share what we’ve been impacted by in our Sunday services each week. Whether it’s something from the preach, a particular song sung, a word from God or a kind word from a fellow Jesus follower.

I know that for some getting out on a Sunday morning is tricky, for all sorts of reasons, and for others Sundays are anything but a day of rest, either because they are serving in the church, or because they are constantly wrangling little ones and struggle to engage, so thought this might be a nice place to share encouragement with one another, and might be a particular help to those for whom Sunday mornings aren’t always a blessing - a way to share the faith of others as it were, when our own is struggling.

I’ll be leaving shortly to get down to church - I’m preaching this morning on the beauty of God.

Not an easy set of readings. I had the Sunday off and let one of the retired priests wrestle with it.

A really beautiful sermon on Matt 2:13-18 tonight from St Jude and St James online church. You can listen to it here, the sermon starts at approx 35 mins in - includes a beautifully painted icon depicting the death of the innocents from the chapel of the innocents in Bethlehem:

Hi everyone, today was a lovely day at church. The readings was Isaiah 60. 1-6, Psalm 72 10-15, Matthew 2. 1-12.

Today’s sermon was from Acts 2, 42-47.
There was a counter factual to start, which was a depressing view of a “comfortable Christian life”, contrasting with the spiritual community of the early church depicted in Acts.
Message was that we should have devoted hearts, open hands and bold steps in order to build a vibrant church community.

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 11/01/2026 00:06

I will not be at church
I called out some very unkind and traumatising behaviour, and as a result I have been told I am no longer welcome there. Safeguarding were not interesting in my account.
I am of course very upset. But God will be in my life regardless of where I spend my day.

InMySpareTime · 11/01/2026 07:37

@HereintheloveofChristIstand I’m so sorry that happened. The church should be better than that, and safeguarding policies should be better too.
I hope you find a new church that is a better fit for you (and that whatever you called out in the old church comes to light in a way they can’t ignore soon).

So sorry to hear you are going through something bad. Hugs. Prayers.
Press in to Him. 🙏🏻

We had James chapter 1, about Joy in Suffering.
We can find Joy in times of suffering, not because pain is pleasant, but because He is Present.

I am sorry to read this. I have not had a direct issue in a church. Previously a minister's style was a bit too blunt for me, but they did try and had a good heart. New ministers joined the church I go to and they are a perfect match for me now. I don't know which church this happened as so to suggest perhaps a different style of church to you. What are you looking for in a church so may be we could suggest another church to try to you? You should always feel not unwelcome in a church.
May you could say what happened on both sides so if there was miscommunication someone might be able to see this.
Hope you work this out soon.

Hi everyone, today’s sermon was 1 Corinthians 1. 1-9, Psalm 40. 1-12, John 1. 29-42
The sermon was on spiritual gifts and it is a topic that I really like I decided to the sermon into a short video so more people can listen to it.
The minister who has took this sermon is one of the ministers who run my church. I thought it would be good learning and viewing to share their sermon.

Hi everyone, sorry had to post again, made an error above.

Hi everyone, today was Isaiah 9. 1-4, Psalm 27. 1, 4-12, Matthew 4. 12-23. I enjoyed the service and received Eucharist and had healing and wholeness after which I do every month to try and manage a condition and couldn’t want for anything else. My kitchen clock was wrong and missed the gospel and so will watch online live at 10am to hear sermon.

We are still studying the book of James.
Today we are on Chapter 2, about not showing favoritism to people who appear nice, well dressed or rich. Jesus looks at the heart, and so should Christians.
Also about how faith without works is dead (a tricky sermon to preach), you don’t do good works to earn your salvation, rather you have salvation and show this through your deeds, words and attitude.

Justmerach · 01/02/2026 20:05

Hi everyone, today’s reading was Malachi 3.1-5, Psalm 24. 1-6, 7-end, Luke 2. 22-40.

Hi everyone today was Exodus 24. 12-end. Psalm 2, Matthew 17. 1-9.

I like the below comment for the sermon today-

“In our fear and in our clouds Jesus is with us and transforming us even if we can’t quite make out where he is or he is saying get up and do not be afraid.”

We had a family service, using the analogy of doughnuts to explain the need for God’s spirit in our lives, and the call to spread the Gospel wherever we are. For a family service it was actually very scripture based (aside from the copious doughnut puns sprinkled throughout the service).
Afterwards everyone had doughnuts and we took donations (dough-nations) for a local charity helping destitute asylum seekers.

Hi everyone, today’s scripture was Ephesians 5.8-14, Psalm 23, John 9: 26-34.

We had Colossians 3:12-17, reminding us we are Chosen, we are holy, and we are loved. From the standpoint of those identities we should remember to look outward (and remember that others are also chosen, holy and loved), we should look inwards (and remember that we are chosen, holy and loved), and look upwards (and remember why we are chosen, holy and loved).

Visiting relatives so we got in an early service at their church, but will aim for an evening service at our home church later too (200 miles away).

Evening was a much more evangelical service, based on Genesis 22: 1-14.
All about surrendering our entire life to God, knowing that the plans He has for us are better than any plan we could make.
We even had a literal cross and everyone queued up to lay hands on the cross to say a prayer of surrender. It was very moving and beautiful.

Today involved a lot of church and a lot of travel, it was nice to have such a peaceful and hopeful end to the day.

InMySpareTime · 15/03/2026 10:42

This morning’s service was based on 1 Peter 2, about worship through community. Church is not the building alone, it’s built through the fellowship of believers encouraging each other, and the welcome we show to the wider community.
We should look to pursue the Kingdom by reaching out to each other to support others or receive support, as we are a loving and caring community of believers.
Also Mother’s Day so the children ran about foisting gifts on all the women (chocolate and a Bible verse postcard) before heading off to their Sunday School groups.
