Sharing Sunday services

Thought I’d start a new thread where we can share what we’ve been impacted by in our Sunday services each week. Whether it’s something from the preach, a particular song sung, a word from God or a kind word from a fellow Jesus follower.

I know that for some getting out on a Sunday morning is tricky, for all sorts of reasons, and for others Sundays are anything but a day of rest, either because they are serving in the church, or because they are constantly wrangling little ones and struggle to engage, so thought this might be a nice place to share encouragement with one another, and might be a particular help to those for whom Sunday mornings aren’t always a blessing - a way to share the faith of others as it were, when our own is struggling.

I’ll be leaving shortly to get down to church - I’m preaching this morning on the beauty of God.

Missing church today, the harvest service clashes with the half marathon (not running, just can’t get to church) so I’ll just go in tomorrow to sort the harvest haul instead.

Hi everyone today was 2 Timothy (3. 14- 4.5), Psalm (119- 97-104), Luke (13 31-35).

We had 1 Peter 2 24-25, about how we are freed from sin through Jesus’ sacrifice and glorified in His resurrection. Ended with the unexpected phrase “go out boldly and share the Gospel, it can’t be worse than having ferrets down your trousers!”🫠

Hi everyone, today the reading was from Joel (2: 23-34), Psalm 65, Luke 18: 9-14).

This week was 1 Peter 2:9, you belong in the nation of God’s people. Not because you earned it but because of the nature of Christ.
But
You are saved to be a blessing to the nations and to declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness.

Enjoy the belonging, but remember faith is active and needs to flow to survive.

Hi everyone today the reading was from (Daniel 7. 1-3, 13-18), (Psalm 149), (Luke 6. 20-31).
I like the reading of Luke a lot a remember it is a good to have a bit of joy as well as one of the fruits of the spirit is joy.

I seem to have missed this thread. I've just been reading through. Lovely to see what people have brought away from their church services.
We go to the evening service so usually have a leisurely Sunday unless we have invited people for dinner. It's smaller and more reflective than the morning service which is more family filled. The theme today is generosity so I'm looking forward to that.

Hi today was Psalm 46, and the Gospel John 15: 9-17.

We had 1 John 3:1 and the sermon was about the implications of being a child of God and adopted into the family of God.
We are chosen and belong, and can have confidence in our identity as Christians.
The example given was a family making daisy chains, not for an actual goal but just for the joy of time spent together.

Sunday 9th November - John 12 v 1-8
The anointing of Jesus at the house of Lazarus, Mary & Martha.

How Judas, the thief (acting as an accuser of the brethren) brought a charge against Mary (the worshipper) for her exuberant act of devotion and our Lord’s sharp rebuke to him. Parallels with our Lord’s zeal for His Father’s House and outrage at it being made into a den of thieves (Luke 19:45-46) and Satan presenting himself before the LORD to accuse the brethren day and night (Revelation 12 :10). Thoughts on the value of intimate worship in the sight of God and how the enemy desires to steal it from Him.

This week we’re doing Revelation 21, about the new heaven and the new earth, and how that future hope shows the character of God, and should shape our lives in the present time.

I went today to the first church today I attended which was a Catholic church where I was baptised as a child as a one off. I like go to my childhood church’s at times for the memories and it makes me feel safe with good memories. Outstanding it was and I loved the dispenser with the Holy water. I attended two Catholic church’s as a child and this is the first one I attended today. I have also been to the second Catholic primary school church recently as well. I go to an Anglican church regularly as a non demontional Christian and will be back there next week.

Today sermons was Malachi 3:19-20, Psalm 98 (97) 2 Thessalonians 3:7-12, Luke 21:5-19.

Hi everyone today the readings was Jeremiah (23. 1-6),(Psalm 46), (Luke 23.33-43). I had to watch online this week.

My rector said a sweet little bit about the Chronicles of Narnia in relation to the message that the time is now and at hand from the message of Luke.

They felt as a child watching the Chronicles Of Narnia a deep sense of home coming at the point where the children have reached Aslam’s kingdom. Where he Aslam explains their confusion about the scattered timeline events that brought them here, he utters the phrase to them all time are now.

We had a sermon based on Revelation 10:9 and Romans 10:9-13, about declaring our faith and being anointed to spread the gospel.
There was a call for congregation to come forward to be anointed with oil, and it took a good 10-15 minutes of queueing to get everyone anointed that wanted it. One person gave their life to Christ for the first time and we gave them a huge spontaneous round of applause.

Today is Advent, the sermon was on 1 Thess 5, are you ready? Are you awake?
Be prepared for Jesus’ return, and put yourself out there in your community helping others and being God’s light in the world until He returns.
A lovely message to bring in the Advent season. Nice, positive and hopeful.

Hi everyone, today the sermon was (Isaiah 11. 1-10) and Matthew (3. 1-12). Today we got Christingle orange which I love and display it with my Christmas decorations at home.
A Christingle orange is a symbolic Christian item used in Advent/Christmas services, made from an orange (the world) with a candle (Jesus, the light of the world), a red ribbon (Jesus's love/blood), and fruits/sweets on sticks (God's creation/seasons). It is connected to the children’s society to.

My sermon was about John the Baptist preparing the way, and the need to encourage and serve others to make the way clear for the coming of Jesus this Christmas.
Our Christingle services are on Christmas Eve, I’m overseeing the making of 800 Christingle oranges this year, which we’ll give out (and rebuild a few abandoned oranges between services to give out twice) over the afternoon of the 24th.
We have a booking system to limit numbers for safety that went live on Friday and the middle service is already booked out.

We had a nativity service with the usual Luke/Matthew passages and a lot of chaos. It was a scratch Nativity and people dress up as characters from the story, but over the years a few of us have gone off script to keep the vicar on his toes. This year the Nativity story incorporated an axolotl, some sharks, a roll of wrapping paper, a ladybird and Gru + minions, and the vicar was dressed in an inflatable baby costume. Sermon was about making sure we remember to keep Jesus at the heart of Christmas.
