Sharing Sunday services

Thought I’d start a new thread where we can share what we’ve been impacted by in our Sunday services each week. Whether it’s something from the preach, a particular song sung, a word from God or a kind word from a fellow Jesus follower.

I know that for some getting out on a Sunday morning is tricky, for all sorts of reasons, and for others Sundays are anything but a day of rest, either because they are serving in the church, or because they are constantly wrangling little ones and struggle to engage, so thought this might be a nice place to share encouragement with one another, and might be a particular help to those for whom Sunday mornings aren’t always a blessing - a way to share the faith of others as it were, when our own is struggling.

I’ll be leaving shortly to get down to church - I’m preaching this morning on the beauty of God.

We had a sermon about spiritual warfare, featuring the Armour of God.
It was a bit squeezed because it’s the end of summer term so the school starters were presented with books as they’re leaving preschool Sunday school. It is great seeing all the junior church groups (about 60-80 children) in the service for the end of the service, filling the church with activity and joy.

Today the Reading was from Amos 8. 1-12, The Psalm was 52, the Gospel was Luke 10. 38-end. I go to an Anglican church as a non demontional Christian.
The Amos scripture is interesting and I was wondering after reading the abomination of the desolation timeline.
(Mark 13:14-23; Luke 21:20-24)
I thought that if we were in the sorrows as Christians may we get to a point when God will no longer answer our prayers and it said that it will be hard times for the pregnant mother and those who are sick during the time of the desolation of the sanctuary.

Today the Amos scripture made me think of it again as well by writing this- that at the end of the world the Word of God may be hard to found on the earth, but then the Prophet Joel said God Spirit will be poured out in abundance on the earth towards the end days. I find it interesting.

We had a lovely service today, the heading was “taste and see” and it was really interactive. Praying for each other at the back of church, prophetic prayers at the front, healing prayer, and words of encouragement by the entrance door.
I spent the whole time writing words of encouragement for people, I could do that all day!

Just wondering, does the Lord give you specific words of encouragement for people, or do you select them yourself?

Your church sounds like “let all things be done for edification” is being put into practice 👍🏻😊

InMySpareTime · 20/07/2025 12:54

@LeaningOnTheEverlastingArms I just kind of tune into God’s voice and listen for what He wants me to write. Some of them were taken from scripture and some were messages of hope or reassurance. I put the words of encouragement on a pin board and people who need encouragement can take it.
Sometimes Holy Spirit prompts me to directly encourage someone in particular, but my mind is generally in an attitude of joy and encouragement so those phrases knock around in my thoughts most of the time anyway.
I wrote stuff like:

God prepared the whole universe to put you in this place at this time.

When you repent your sin, and give it to God, it is gone forever. Be free from it.

God knows all the things about you and he chose you especially.

You are God’s light in the dark places of this world.

God sees the path he plans for you, and delights in seeing you discover more of those plans each day.

You are becoming who God means you to be.

We did the parable of the sower, with the vicar talking about the barriers to Christian growth. The end of the sermon (the “good soil” bit) was delivered by a young teenager who wanted to share her testimony. She was marvellous and confident, I doubt I’d have been as eloquent at her age.

Justmerach · 03/08/2025 10:11

Today reading was Colossians 3.1-11, Psalm 107- 1-9, 43, Gospel Luke 12. 13-21

Didn’t go to church this week as my husband drives me there and he’s at New Wine in Shepton Mallet. I’m listening to the livestream of New Wine worship though.

InMySpareTime · 03/08/2025 12:24

Ooh that was a powerful sermon. Based on the woman at the well, the speaker talked about how Jesus honours and respects women, and compared it with the church’s judgment and disenfranchisement of women, not just historically but currently.
All the men were invited to repent of the times they have ignored or belittled women’s contribution to the life of the church.

Ours is a missional church and we are being encouraged to pray for nations and parts of the world where Christianity is not known, or not allowed, or is not generally accepted. To help us focus we've been introduced to https://prayercast.com

We had a sermon about the power of forgiveness, based on Matthew 18 and the unforgiving servant.

I preached on the Luke passage asking people where their treasure was.

I'm a couple of sessions into a 6 week course about finding God in quiet. At least I think that is what it about...I'm not keen on the bloke in the video, and the quality of discussion depends very much on who's sitting on your table. Last night was good though; lots of helpful suggestions and sharing.

OldJohn · 11/08/2025 19:37

I led two services and used the same sermon based on Hebrews 11 1-3, 7-16 in both churches. It was slightly different in each church as a different congregation.

Our Sunday sermon was about the trials of David, who wanted to be king, but had friction (understatement) with Saul. He had the opportunity to basically assassinate him but didn't because he honoured that God had put Saul as king and it wasn't David's time yet.

So, the moral of the story was we shouldn't rush to do things in our time. God has a plan which we may or may not always understand.
