I am waiting for the hospital to phone back

I don't know what to do

She was just packing up in Maths and it gradually went black

They used a pinhole for eye chart but not for reading

I am being nice but also assuming that she has to learn how to cope

She's OK - eyes have been stable since mid-afternnon Friday

We have had a quiet weekend - all been a bit under the weather

But we made worry beads today (thanks cargirl)

It's stress/psychological
Everything is organically fine
Her eyes are perfect
They can't help - it will just go away

Yes but when it came back she was tracing again

I feel helpless & stressed (which I guess isn't helping DD much)

Can I just say (on this thread & on the other one) how much I appreciate everyone's help & support while this has been happening to our family

It has meant so much to me that you have all offered so much to me; I am so grateful

Yep - she won't miss school voluntarily

Thanks

I agree with Riven that it's pretty shocking that a child can lose her sight due to stress and noone does anything. When I told dd's school that she had been cutting herself, a CAHMS support programme was rolled out pretty instantly. Is there no school counsellor? No CAHMS in the community?

cory · 15/03/2010 07:30

Mind you, mental health problems seem to be the only thing our LEA is any good at. It does seem to be very much a postcode lottery.

Am very impressed by your dd insisting on going in to school.

Katymac · 15/03/2010 20:22

I haven't told the CAHMS people that her sight is back to where it was before it completely vanished (ie blurry, guble vision & Black &white) as the school said they will cancel her appointment because she only got the appointment because she was blind.

I'm sure that isn't true, but I am not sure enough to cancel it

sorry you and your DD are going through this, how is she today?

mummytopebs · 16/03/2010 12:34

I cant understand why they havent done brain scans etc. DD 4 kept getting flashing light sensations in her eyes she told me it was black and white and everything went red (she was only 3 at the time so couldnt explain to well), this distressed her a great deal and i could tell it was very real to her.

She had had an mri within 24 hours of going to the hospital and everything ok, they also did eeg to check for epilepsy again this was ok, they said they did this to rule out serious things ie tumours.

She now goes to an eye hospital every 4 month for check ups, her eyes are fine but they still do these check ups. The flashing used to happen around 6 times a day and now only about once a month, this has been put down to psychological, it is hard to believe that it is psychological as it started when she was 3 - she is now nearly 5, and i thought she was a bit young for that and it is so real to her.

They only put it down to psychological when all other avenues had been explored to rule out serious things, i would be pushing for an mri just to rule out for your peace of mind.

I am sending you big hugs its very scary

Katymac · 16/03/2010 20:19

Me neither

Glad your DD is OK
