I am waiting for the hospital to phone back

I don't know what to do

She was just packing up in Maths and it gradually went black

I would phone an ambulance - no idea what it is but best to be on the safe side

Katymac · 12/03/2010 11:44

We are waiting for the Eye Clinic SS people to ring back

Is this an ongoing issue then or something thats come on suddenly? Maybe try NHS direct if you want an immediate answer and dont want to dial 999?

Lemonmeringue · 12/03/2010 11:49

It's ongoing I think - there have been other threads and Katymac was waiting for an appointment? You're doing the right thing, Kathymac - the eye clinic will advise, and with luck, get her in and sorted out asap.

Katymac · 12/03/2010 11:49

It's been going on for a fortnight - it went double vision, then blurry, then both & her colour vision went

We have been to the hospital 5 times in the last week or 10 days

It is so scary

OP posts:
wannaBe · 12/03/2010 11:50

oh shit.

And nothing's changed since then? i.e. did it go black and now still black?

Katymac · 12/03/2010 11:52

It has (so far) stayed black - 2 hours now

OP posts:
sausagepastie · 12/03/2010 11:52

How old is she Katy?

DarrellRivers · 12/03/2010 11:53

Hope they phone back soon

ant3nna · 12/03/2010 11:53

I hope for they can work out what the problem is quickly. I can't imagine what its like not knowing anything about what's causing her blindness.

Do you have a bag packed just in case it requires a stay over night in hospital?

Lemonmeringue · 12/03/2010 11:53

Have they given you any idea what might be causing it?

Katymac · 12/03/2010 11:53

12 - & it might be hormonal or stress or psychological we don't really know

OP posts:
sausagepastie · 12/03/2010 11:54

Possible causes of rapid-onset unilateral blindness include:

retinal artery embolism
retinal vein thrombosis
vitreous haemorrhage
temporal arteritis
retinal detachment
optic neuritis
migraine
acute glaucoma
Sudden loss of vision is an ophthalmological emergency and requires immediate referral to the eye emergency department.

There are links to all of these here

wannaBe · 12/03/2010 11:55

is there anything I can do?

sausagepastie · 12/03/2010 11:56

this is good too. It could still be a transient ischemia. It may well not be permanent.

I hope you hear something soon.

AppleyDapply · 12/03/2010 11:59

I hope you get your phone call soon and find out what is going on. Can you call them again to hurry / remind them?

PlumBumMum · 12/03/2010 12:03

ohh Katymac Iread your previous thread but didn't know how I could contribute,

get on the phone to your opthamologist right away

My dd has eye problems, it is scary and we know whats wrong with her, hope you get a diagnosis soon

JackBauer · 12/03/2010 12:05

Oh Katy, I hope you get a callback soon. You must be so frightened. Noa dvice but lots of

Lemonmeringue · 12/03/2010 12:06

Same here. Lots of luck.

LadyGaggia · 12/03/2010 12:08

Poor girl, how frightening for you all. I hope that they get to the bottom of this for you soon.

Katymac · 12/03/2010 12:21

Funnily enough the counselling people just got back to me & have made her an appointment for next Friday - which had nothing to do with the email I sent to update them.

I can't help thinking a bit of support when I first asked for it (July last year) might have prevented this

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/03/2010 12:38

sausagepastie, thats quite a list but if you are going to create such a list then also you should include conversion disorder.

Katymac - hugs, I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this.

sausagepastie · 12/03/2010 12:43

Sorry Kitten I was just copying and pasting from the page I linked to below the list.

I don't know what any of them mean.

Katymac · 12/03/2010 12:52

I do think conversion disorder is possible but why??? No major incident (that I know of) just lots of little bits & pieces

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 12/03/2010 12:55

Is she not in hospital yet? The poor thing, it must be terrifying. Fingers crossed for you Katymac, hope they can get to the bottom of it and fix the problem.
