I have help and support so don't warry about me but

OMG!! My dd2 is 11 weeks and has screamed for hours today. This last hour it is like some one is taking a hot poker to her - these are screams of pure agony and panic.

She has fucking colic 'it's only colic she'll grow out of it' - if she were an adult she would be given morphine.

This is too much - has anyone just gone to them and said 'help her' even if it is just a few hours of rest from the screaming?

Thumb - thats brilliant. A big thank you. I will crack on with that for sure.

I was thinking torsion or blockage or something - when I was thinking. More shudders.

I'm sure I was a pissed up back packer, like maybe a few months ago. What is this crazy stress and how do people get through with seriously ill kids.

Am having quite comical thoughts of rushing out to shed in search of an old bucket, possibly with bits of plaster ot wall paper paste in - for bathing you understand. Will locate bucket and try that in calmer times too, cheers Aitch.

ooh yes, craniosacral osteopathy could be a winner if colic persists.

And another suggestion - if you think there is an element of her panicking or being scared, get some of this - it is perfectly safe to use on teeny babies (no alcohol) - it will calm her down. It's excellent stuff, I have used it on DS a couple of times (but not for colic cos he didn't really have that)

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 01:16

She saw a oeseopath, and had regular chiro appointmens for neck release as it was stiff. Will be back next week I guess.

Ooooh this wears you down.

I find teetha powder does calm her, its chamomila I think . But will also get what you suggest, as she is jumpy and distressed by movement. She is hyper sensitive - possibly as a result of having a tummy ache all the time

poor little lambkin, I do feel for you - we had enough stress watching DS's LIH bulge whenever he had a crying fit - he wasn't allowed to cry for long in case it got trapped! Had it fixed at 8 weeks - that was scary but it went fine.
Thank God he didn't have colic as well - can you imagine?

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 01:31

I can yes - I'd need sedation. Awful awful thought.

Am going to try and lie down with her now, and let her get some real sleep, so good night [I've run out of adrenaline]. She is breathing more steadily and not so furious on the dummy. My poor nips have felt the effects of her need for furious comfort I can tell you.

Thank you thumbbunny, have a carrot on me.

I hope you get some rest
I know what you mean about the screams, they hurt you dont they

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 10:14

Thanks TLE and Trinity, and good Morning

had no futher 'call an ambulance' screams but she hasn't fed well or slept well. She cried every hour or so and chuntered loads. Basically feeding just seems to painful for her. She had a very wet nappy though so will take thaat as agood sign she is hydrated.

She has possited some pale green mucous?

Anyone?? Never seen that before.

Stil feel like I'm on the verge of panick - on her behalf iyswim.

I am sure I have read/heard something about green mucuos/abdominal pain. Sorry - can't remember. Maybe someone more knowledeable will be along. Or could you speak to NHS direct?

Sorry, don't want to worry you, but there is something about that at the back of my brain....

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 10:37

No thats good - anything to reassure me I am not a neurotic jelly fish is good! Thanks!

To google or not to google..........

It could happen! Kids eh?

What is happening now?

MadameCastafiore · 12/04/2009 10:43

Tree - DD used to have really bad colic and we used to put her in her baby bjorn thinging and almost bounce down the high street - this caused the little air bubbles to form into one big one which she then used to burp up - almost as soon as she did the humugous burp she would stop the wailing and fall asleep.

Try it it may work for you and DD.

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 10:46

Madame - have dof noticed she likes to bounce too.

Muffin - she's asleep on my chest. So no drama!

She looks very well, she is warm adn has good colour etc.

Am hoping someone else has seen green jelly possit. It's pale green so I didn't think bile stained.

what hav eyou been eating?

glad she is resting now

Nontoxic · 12/04/2009 10:51

Could she be constipated? I know standard wisdom (well my old HV anyway) states that however frequently a bf baby goes is 'normal,' but my DD would sometimes not go for 11 days and get more and more distressed and then have the most spectacular bowel movement imaginable.
Wish I'd had the sense to see the gp, which I did with DS when he was the same, who gave me soft suppositories to cut in half.
Only used them once, and the effect was so immediate and explosive we realised all was necessary was gentle pressure just below, not on, the opening.
Sorry for tmi, just thought it might be worth considering.

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 10:51

Been eating chocolate and soup and toast.
Very boring but very quick!

Thank lord she is sleeping well at last. No futher drama for the time being anyway. Dont dare move so thank Lord for laptops!

TD - My ds had lots of green mucous when he was first born but not 11 weeks. Was she mucousy when she was first born? Could she have not got all the mucous up? Most babies are mucousy when they're born. I was really worried when dd wasn't mucousy! [psb!!] Are you sure she has colic rather than reflux? Slient reflux produces no vomit as such but is still very painful for little ones. Some info about reflux.

treedelivery · 12/04/2009 10:58

Marthasmama - I dunno really what she has anymore.

It seems to change adn morph every fortnight or so. It was very bowel related before, and she burped fine - now it is possits and wind we have trouble with.

We had gaviscon which apart from being impossible to give after every feed, didn't seem to do a great deal, but maybe we didn't stick at it.

Thanks for the link - I'll have a look at it now.

Is she milk intolerant tree? Sounds awfully like it could have been the result of dairy intake (dd was like this constantly for 4 months and it was hell). Have you been eating a lot of easter choc, or maybe cheese this week?

Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 11:03

I have found another link to allergies in breastfed babies. This might be worth a look too. My friend's dd is dairy intolerant which they found out when she was about 8 weeks old. She screamed for about four hours after every feed, was very sick and constipated. What does your HV say? Don't let the HCPs fob you off if your instincts tell you it's something more than colic. You're her mummy, you know best.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2009 11:04

Ah, cross post re food. Choc could have done it then. Have you ever tried going dairy free?

drlove8alltheeastereggs · 12/04/2009 11:05

tree..... get some "colief" .its about £10 for a tiny bottle but it works! you only need a tiny amount and you can give it to BF babies on a spoon/medasine syringe, before a feed.is an enzime based colic solution, and was recomended by the peadiatrition for my premature twins.

Marthasmama · 12/04/2009 11:06

Ha! Yes CSWS is the expert on all things vomity in babies!

drlove8alltheeastereggs · 12/04/2009 11:09

tree the green mucus could be a sign of a chest infection....id get your dd checked out ,just to make sure.
