has any one else had experience of this.
She is also having problems controlling her bladder and having many accidents.

Tests have confirmed no infection.

Am worried.

She has had this for moonhs now and recently slight traces of protein.

Any news Kent? Hopefully the fact you haven't posted again means that you've been at the hospital with your poor DD and that you've got some answers and some treatment for her.

pooka · 31/03/2009 20:55

Hope the doctors were able to do something.

Poor dd.

WRT the hospital - could you travel to say Lewisham? They have a fantastic A&E for kids there. Not sure how it works, presenting at a slightly more distant hospital. Or does Queen Mary's have an A&E still, or did they get round to closing it?

I know of friends who went straight to Lewisham when their dd developed diabetes. They knew it was great (one worked there) and wanted her to be seen by people they knew. DIdn't bother with the PRUH and there were no difficulties.

Hi, just wanted to say that i know what you're going through. My 2yo ds had this last month although it only lasted a day, and it totally freaked me out. I suffer quite badly from health anxiety so i tend to overreact anyway. We were told it was probably a urine infection. He'd had visible blood in his nappy but the urine sample came back clear. He'd had 3 doses of antibiotics before the sample was taken so not sure if that had interfered with the results or not. Anyway we saw 3 gps and 2 paediatricians all within 48 hours of it starting, i jusy kept telling them how worried i was and it worked. My ds had an ultrasound of his kidneys and bladder a week on which showed a small spot of inflammation which was likely the cause of the bleeding. We are now waiting for an appointment with the paediatric kidney specialist just to check that the inflammation is sorting itself out.

I really hope you get some answers soon for your dd as the waiting around is absolute hell. I really feel for you.

mumblechum · 01/04/2009 13:48

bump. What happened yesterday?

morningsun · 01/04/2009 13:50

kentmum all the best,am wondering if you and dd have stayed in hospitalx

CharleeInSpring · 01/04/2009 13:56

I get this!

I can control my bladder but only just and the reason is that only one of my kidneys is working properly, i have tons of blood and protien on dipstick tests and have had visable blood before. Get her kidneys scanned and checked asap.

I hope GP's apt was productive. Poor girl. x

kentmumtj · 01/04/2009 17:48

well saw GP and he is reffering her to the hospital he does not view it as an emergency as such so i will have to wait for an appointment.

In the meantime i had to take her to hospital this morning for her fasting blood test.

I have to await those results hopefully they will be back Fri if not then Monday.

She was very brave sitting there and they didnt offer her the numbing cream either anyway she did well and got a nice treat on her way to school ......... a McD's breakfast lol..........she loved it

Oh I am pleased something is finally being done! Your DD is very brave. I forgot to ask last time, is she in any pain?

kentmumtj · 02/04/2009 12:26

well there was one episode about 6/7 weeks ago where she was doubled up in so much pain (very unlike her to complain) at the time she couldnt even stand up to walk as she felt the pain was unbearable. This was when i took her to A&E however since then she hasnt complained of any pain.

I did wonder if she was just not telling me for fear of being taken back to the hosptial in case they wanted to take blood tests but she assures me she is in no pain.

have just had a phone call from the docs to say they have a letter for me to collect regarding her. think its the booking thing where you book the appointment with consultants yourself

Gorionine · 02/04/2009 12:44

Good, that you can now make an appointment! all the best, will be thinking of you and DD!

kentmumtj · 02/04/2009 13:22

thanks will update more when i know more hopefully the appointment wont be too far away.

One thing im finding possibly a bit strange is 2 different docs have mentioned diabetis???

any ideas why>?

OP posts:
morningsun · 02/04/2009 13:39

because diabetes causes increased frequency of passing urine as well as increased volume of urine passed [and thirst and weight loss]

has she had her urine dipstick tested for sugar~oh she must have had as you know she had blood present
do you know if sugar was present in the urine

also her blood test yesterday must have been a fasting blood glucose~to exclude diabetes. If it is high it indicates diabetes, make sure you phone for the result from the gp if thats how your surgery works

morningsun · 02/04/2009 13:41

sorry, diabetes is when there is an increased level of sugar in the blood and it is then also passed in the urine.

tiggerlovestobounce · 02/04/2009 13:52

Its good that you have been referred. Hopefully it wont take too long to come through. In the past when I have tried to speed things up for my DDs I have phoned the paediatric outpatients secretary at my hospital and asked about cancellations. School holidays are usually fairly quiet times for paediatrics, with lots of people cancelling.

iSOLOvechocolate · 02/04/2009 19:15

That's good thinking tigger.

kentmumtj · 03/04/2009 10:14

i have recived her appointment and its for 20th May which i think is a bit far away really, i will ring them up and say we can do any cancellations

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 03/04/2009 10:28

20th may is bonkers. i'd be going nuts at them by this stage. i do hope you access the help you need soon.

Gorionine · 03/04/2009 10:52

A month and a half wait??? I really hope that you get called if someone cancels their appointment!

tiggerlovestobounce · 03/04/2009 11:03

It might be better to phone up on a regular basis to check if there is a cancellation, rather than waiting for them to phone you if there is one, that way you wont be forgotten about.

kentmumtj · 03/04/2009 16:28

thats a good idea i will phone them weekly they will not like me lol

anyways got her blood test results today and ive been told they are all normal

even more of a mystery

OP posts:
Gorionine · 16/04/2009 08:59

Have you had any luck with getting an earlier appointment?

kiddiz · 16/04/2009 09:30

My dd has unexplained haematuria and has had the abdominal pains you describe. The blood was not visable but came up as ++ on the dipstick tests. I'm further down the line re tests than you. My dd has had a u/s of her kidneys and seen a paediatric renal speciaist. Every test/scan she has had has come back normal. The last test we were offered was a kidney biopsy which, after talking to the renal specialist, we decided against for the time being. This was because there is a history of haematuria in her dad's family. Her grandad has it as does her aunt and her dad. The specialist said it was most likely a hereditary problem where the kidneys allow small amounts of blood to pass through. He said that although the dipstick comes up ++ it is microscopic traces of blood that the tests pick up. (Dd has never had visable blood in her urine though) The only way to confirm this 100% was with a biopsy. As it wouldn't really change anything and the doctor was happy there was nothing sinister going on with her kidneys we decided against it for the time being. The pain was diagnosed as abdominal migraine and was unrelated to the heamaturia. The two were only ever linked because when she presented with abdominal pain the gp automatically tested her urine. They said she would grow out of it which she has. No episodes of pain for about 18 months - 2 years now.
Just thought I'd pass this on as what is going on with your daughter sounded so like my dd.

kentmumtj · 17/04/2009 09:26

kiddiz it does sound similar i must say. Did your dd become unable to hold her urine and have frequent accidents as well?

well i have had no luck with getting an earlier appointment so i guess i will just have to wait. The last 2 weeks have been easier on my dd as it has been the easter hols as she has been around family and been at home so if she can go to the toilet whenever she wants to and if she has accidents she is in her own home and can deal with it without having to infomr anyone (eg teachers) im glad as she has been less tearful and anxious as well.

OP posts:
kiddiz · 17/04/2009 09:53

No she didn't kentmumtj.
I do feel for you. I remember how anxious I was and waiting for appointments was horrible. I hope your dd gets seen soon. Do tell them how anxious you are when you go. We waited a long time for the ultrasound scan too because dd wasn't given an urgent referral. The 2nd appointment with the consultant actually came round before dd had had the scan. When we got there he said he couldn't find her ultrasound results!!! Hardly surprising as she hadn't had it done.
The whole testing process did go on for many months and, with hindsight, I wish I'd been more assertive to get things done quicker.
I hope you get things sorted out soon and get the help your dd clearly needs.

kentmumtj · 17/04/2009 10:10

yea i hope so too ........im sure she is fine and it is nothing serious and whatever it is can be sorted out with as little discomfort to her as possible
