has any one else had experience of this.
She is also having problems controlling her bladder and having many accidents.

Tests have confirmed no infection.

Am worried.

She has had this for moonhs now and recently slight traces of protein.

Why on earth would blood in urine indicate the start of your period? For a start they are two different holes!!

Agree with others, take her back in today. Can you go to a different hospital? Get a second opinion if you see what i mean. You can't leave this.

girlandboy · 31/03/2009 10:26

Isn't there a mumsnetter around who's a doctor?

oopsagain · 31/03/2009 10:27

Lcums can refer... they are doctors.
I'd wait at the docs until something is sorted out today.
good luck,

permatired · 31/03/2009 10:27

Sorry can't add much other than take her to hospital today and insist on being seen - doesn't mean it is anything bad but it is clearly not right and she is distressed. A friend of mine at school had something similar - needed fixing but was easily done - can't remember quite what but not anything sinister. Hope you get on ok - let us know.

PottyCock · 31/03/2009 10:28

I was also tested and tested around that age and even had an ultrasound on my kidneys but it came to nothing - now I'm older and know what a urinary tract infection feels like, I think it was definitely infections I had - felt the same way anyway. Let us know how you get on kentmum and I hope they get it sorted out.

morningp they did say to me that when girls are about to start their periods large amounts of blood can show up in their urine and appar this is normal. 6/7 weeks has gone by since then and im guessing that if this was the case then surely she would have stated by now.

On saying this the "accidents" she is having would not account for starting her periods (well i wouldnt have thought so)

I have been told that she has the most amount of blood that you can get in her urine (which is a massive worry for me)

DD is at school at mo her appointment is 11.20.

I too thought psychological being she is in year6 doing SATS transferring to secondary school etc but blood and no control over her bladder suggest medical reasons

I was just going to ask that too MP. I can't see a link between a period and blood in urine or continence problems.

PottyCock · 31/03/2009 10:31

I should have added that I used to have accidents too - it was really like absolutely terrible cystitis, looking back, although they never found evidence of any infection.

kentmumtj · 31/03/2009 10:32

unfortuanlty i only have one hosptial in my area so would have to be the same one

luvaduck · 31/03/2009 10:34

hi
i'm a gp
just a quickie as son creating havoc

absolutely go back
it does sound like an infection to be honest if shes also having accidents, so maybe the first sample was wrong.

she needs to have urine retested and bloods (kidney function and FBC/CRP/ESR)if sample is normal.

you could just go to A+E, you'll prob get an answer quicker

good luck

kentmumtj · 31/03/2009 10:35

she does not complain of pain when passing urine or anything thing else if im honest except 6/7 weeks ago when i took her A&E as she was in excrutiating pain in her tunny area.

Since then nothing no pain at all.
On saying that she was petrified in the hosptial and i do wonder if she just does not want to tell me anything due to the embarrasement she is feeling.

poor little thing if only she would belive how much i am not bothered about her accidents. Guess all i can keep doing is cuddling her and giving her lots of TLC and time.

hi kentmum
this is very odd, does she have visible blood in the urine or only on dipstick testing?
are her accidents pure blood or blood/urine or just urine?
is she continent at night?
is she otherwise healthy?
how long has this been for?

SobranieCocktail · 31/03/2009 10:35

It's ridiculous that you've been fobbed off like this. I have never heard of excessive blood in urine prior to the start of periods. n fact I've just googled it and can't see any link.

PottyCock · 31/03/2009 10:37

You need to get her back to the hospital - there's clearly something wrong. Hope you get it sorted.

kentmumtj · 31/03/2009 10:38

luvaduck thanks she has had 2 urine tests for infections both said she was fine

they did mention bloods at the hospital and after numbing her hands they decided not too. I was quite upset with them as she had spent half an hour crying with fear for the blood test and i just wished they had got it over and done with and now it looks like she will def have to go through that wait all over again.

My appointment is in half an hour so hopefully will possibly have more answers

OP posts:
morningpaper · 31/03/2009 10:39

Is there any point taking her with you to the GPs? Why not just go by yourself?

Is the blood actually visible in the urine?

morningpaper · 31/03/2009 10:41

Why did they numb her hands for blood tests?

A compentent paediatric nurse should be able to numb her arms and do the tests with her arm behind her back without her being in any pain - I've had various blood tests taken from the most wussy child and she hasn't flinched.

Otherwise promises of cash/presents can help...

luvaduck · 31/03/2009 10:42

MP yes there is as they should retest her urine and examine her
You always need to see the patient esp if going to be referred so should never go without the child

good luck

kentmumtj · 31/03/2009 10:43

mornings she does not have accidents at night only during the day (very weird)

she is otherwise healthy and never had any medical problems

her accidents are urine

to be honest (this is where i feel like a terrible mother) i am not sure how long this has been going on for. The blood came to light 6/7 weeks ago how long this has been there for i dont know.

Prior to that i only discovered about Nov time that she was having 'accidents' as she was very clever in hiding it. She threw her knickers away, hid them or sneakily put them into the washing machine.

She feels so embarrased by it.

She also was not completly honest when i asked her and she told me that she sometimes had accidents at school because she wasnt allowed to use the toilets during lessons.

So i i wrote letters into school then went to see head teacher to discuss this.

So to answer the question how long the answer is im not sure

the medical word for blood in the urine is haematuria. If is is visible to the naked eye it is called "frank haematuria"

kentmumtj · 31/03/2009 10:52

yes i have looked some of it up on the internet but then read worrying things and tell myself its not good to research too much.

Well im about to leave to get my dd and i will update on what GP/or even hosptial has said.

Thansk all for making me feel like im not a neurotic mother

OP posts:
Geepers · 31/03/2009 13:31

how did it go?

MumOfTwoToo · 31/03/2009 13:57

When my dd was about that age she started to need to pass urine very frequently, felt uncomfortable and irritated and was often rushing to the toilet. I had her tested for infections and none found. Eventually after 6 months we found the cause....threadworms. After taking tablets for threadworms all the urge to pass urine symptoms stopped. No blood in urine that I was aware of. The worms had found their way from her bottom to her front passage. GP never suggested it despite a number of visits and lots of distress for dd.

anniebear · 31/03/2009 16:23
