My DS has a sore penis. What could be the causes?

He started complaining tonight just before bedtime. The end looks a little red & sore. I ran him a warm bath, which seemed to soothe it, but he now looks like he is in some discomfort when he walks. Does this sound like an infection?

I was going to ask if a nappy had rubbed and caused it.

awww, might be an infection or reaction to washing powder or friction from clothing too tight? monitor his ability to wee, if he struggles then you may have a problem

It came on really suddenly. He was still wearing his trousers when he started complaining so they may have rubbed him. They have been with their dad for the last 2 days, so I rang him & was told he had been fine all the time he had him. I will keep an eye on it. I feel at a loss with willy problems!

I am not too bad thanks, SEA. Didn't have the greatest Christmas with my family &, but spent Boxing day & yesterday with my DP, which was nice. How are you? Did you have a nice Christmas?

yes best get it seen to asap as its not very nice and very painful for them and it can swell and pus as well not the nicest thing to see

you need a cream from the dr or pharmacy. i would give them a ring in the morning. don't leave it as it can get worse quite quickly.

unless by chance you have daktarin cream in the house, its worth a try in case its the bug that causes thrush

you will have to call first thing and be very stroppy about him being seen tomorrow, as they will be very VERY busy and the receptionist will try to put you off

make it sound very bad if you have to

we were told not too put any cream on it its the antibiotics that work and too pull the foreskin gently back and wash with water only

Ds had something like this, and frankly I think it was because he wasn't washing properly.

He asked me to check it, and the end was red and sore looking. While in the bath, he eased the foreskin back and there was a white "build up" stuck in there. I believe this has the lovely name of smegma!!

He didn't have and AB's, but I did rather go to town with plenty of warm water and a cotton bud!

Cleared up a treat!

Best to go to the doctor's though, just to make sure.

Sounds exactly like balanitis- an infection of the foreskin.

Goes away really quickly with amoxycillin. See your GP in the morning.
