is there a bug going round which starts like a cold and ends up with puking?

ds (11) has been off school with what seemed like a nasty cold which he started coming down with on Saturday - this afternoon he started saying he was feeling sick and he's just thrown up all over downstairs loo (nearly got there in time )

has he got two separate bugs or is there something which starts like a cold and then mutates - and if so, how long until he's back to normal?

supposed to be working on Friday ....

Yes, lots of children at our school have a similar bug.

My DS (also aged 11) is off today feeling sick, it started with a sore throat and a cold.

noonki · 10/12/2008 18:51

oh yes (DH) and DM and my sis and they live miles apart and havent seen each over for ages!

Mostly they got over it in a day, hope your ds does

sickofsocalledexperts · 10/12/2008 18:52

my boy has had a wierd mixture of vomiting (just the once), diarrhoea, slight cold, slight cough, grumpy and grouchy yet also unable to get to sleep - all just odd little symptoms, without coming to much, but it's been going on for 2 weeks. Calpol and nurofen should get 6 hours of relief for Friday though when you need to work

constancereader · 10/12/2008 18:54

Ah - my ds has just had this, I thought it was two different things.

redhotredhead · 10/12/2008 18:59

Yes loads of kids at our school have had. My doc told me that lots of kids very easily throw up when infected crap from their nose drips down the back of their throat into their stomachs!

snickersnack · 11/12/2008 12:50

Sounds like dd - she's been ill since Sunday with a spikey temperature and hacking cough. Sent her to preschool today as she looked a lot perkier only to be summoned at 10.30am as she'd been sick in the playground.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 11/12/2008 13:30

Our school reckons its two bugs - loads and loads have got the sore throat high temp thing, plenty more have the tummy bug (theres noro at the local hospital so i think its that) and some poor sods....

as I've said in other threads I've had raging earache temps and stuff, its doing lots better but not bril, then dd came down with the vomiting bug tuesday night. She is almost well now and now I feel crap with tummy pains and no appetite.

lottien · 11/12/2008 16:45

There's a thing going round - I think it's called winter. DD has had a cold which is now going away but she's still coughing a bit and has had diarrhoea (no vomitting though) and a headache on and off. Today she's got earache. Every so often she goes all pale and tired but then suddenly perks up and is full of beans. I reckon it's the knock-on effect of the cold which has upset her tummy so she's dehydrated which causes the headache etc....

IllegallyBrunette · 11/12/2008 16:46

Ds has just had a mixture of cough, cold, sickness, diorhea, high temp and scalp infection.

Apparently there have been loads off at his school.

crazyloon1 · 11/12/2008 18:06

Loads of kids in ds's class have been sick in the last week or two. Ds seems to have high temp and bad cough atm, hoping he doesn't do the chucking thing as well, I can't cope with much more!!

mimsum · 11/12/2008 18:34

thanks

ds hasn't been sick again since this morning - last night was pretty grim though although he's getting much better at clearing it up ...

apparently half his class has been off this week, now I'm keeping everything crossed the others don't go down with it as well

OP posts:
crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 08:14

Well ds1 has just thrown up after 3 days with cough/temp thing. I think it might (TMI) have just been catarrh irritating his tummy, he said it hurt and then bam...now it doesn'[t hurt.
Or else it was the bug.

Will see what happens later...hoping we all edon't manage to get it too. Keeping 18mo away from sick while you clear it up is not easy.

crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 08:14

How are you mimsum?

crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 08:15

Kitten are you Ok today?

Amapoleon · 12/12/2008 08:18

We've got it here in Spain too.

WhileShosheWatchedHerFlocks · 12/12/2008 08:29

My mindees are going down like flies with it

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 12/12/2008 08:59

thanks for asking Crazyloon

I'm not 100%, tummy pain, bit of earache and feeling very glum and post viral.

dd is back at school today after a gargantuan breakfast (porridge, bread and jam AND yogurt with apple sauce). I'm supposed to be going in to help, I love helping at school but I thought it was unfair to spread the germs further.

How is your ds doing now? You poor thing, you must be really fed up. Fingers crossed for you all.

crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 09:05

Oops just posted on your weather thread!

Sorry you are not quite Ok, at least no chucking though? Has to be good...

Lemontart · 12/12/2008 09:05

DD1 definitely had a tummy bug and not linked in with a cold. Sick over and over all night and all day. Really poorly. Now she is off school with a cold bug. Sniffled for a few days and now def too ill to go in - high temp, sore limbs, cough, sore throat, no appetite etc etc.
Perhaps we are doing it in reverse over here!

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 12/12/2008 09:10

No chucking is very good crazyloon Am going to conole myself by making upstairs all nice and tidy and clean and that way at least some good will have come out of all this.

Lemontart - sounds like you are doing it in reverse! Not nice either way.

dd hasn't had the sore throat thing yet. I really really hope she doesnt get it next week else her stocking will be sadly depleted.

crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 09:17

We have a tidy house as agents are coming to inspect today! Which helps when someone does chuck up as there's not so much clutter for it to go all over

However just rang agents to say ds is ill as the one who does the inspections ahs a baby, and they said he will come another day! Which I fully understand. I bet house gets trashed again in meantime though...

SueW · 12/12/2008 09:19

DD had D&V followed immiediately by the cold/cough. She had three days off school last week plus the weekend to get over it.

I work in a school and there's loads of kids off sick/going down with it. Between 10-20% of the pupils off every day.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 12/12/2008 09:45

That does help crazyloon! Frustrating for you that you had it so nice but very considerate of you.

I'd often wondered what would happen if dd was ill over the side of her cabin bed.....
Its a shame that so many teddies were underneath.....

crazyloon1 · 12/12/2008 10:02

Gahh
cabin bed nightmare. Poor you!!! Are they washable?

I am stuck for how to arrnage sleeping tonight. We all share my big double bed atm, which is uncomfortable when one of them is hot or chucking up.
(to say the least )

Can maybe have ds1 at opposite end, with bowl by side of bed, with me and ds2 at other end well out of range...or i might move out to their bedroom (where no one sleeps) and leave them to vom all over each other all winter. he he

edam · 12/12/2008 10:07

Ds has this too - at least, I think the sickness is caused by the cough. When I called school they said, immediately, 'has he got this bug?' before I'd even mentioned he was off sick!
