blood on DD's sheets - help

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:29

am really panicking, just put DD down for nap, and noticed 2 x 20p piece sized blood stains in her cot (her dad obviously didn't notice it this morning bec it was dark when she woke up). There's no signs of dried blood in her nose or ear, and I heard her coughing during the early hours so can only assume it came from her mouth. Have called GP & waiting for duty doctor to call me back.

She seemed a bit clingy yesterday and didn't eat fantastically but ate a normal breakfast today and seemed ok but tired.

Anyone had experience of this? thanks

Has she got a scab somewhere that she has picked/rubbed off in the night?

Hope the Doc rings back soon.

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:31

she has a tiny tiny one on her ear but there's no way it would have bled that much
feel sick with worry

Try not worry, sure she's fine. How old is she?

georgiemum · 18/11/2008 12:32

gums?

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:33

she's 21 months

possibly dry/cracked lips which split when she coughed.

i seem to recall coming to this conclusion with my dd ages ago?

SoupDragon · 18/11/2008 12:33

Ears can bleed a lot.

notwavingjustironing · 18/11/2008 12:33

ears do bleed a lot though

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:33

gums? really? no sign of new teeth coming through..

2 20p sized bits aren't much. a little blood goes a long way.

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:34

piratecat she doesn't seem to have cracked or dry lips
soupdragon & NWJI there's no dry blood in either of her ears.. (or nose)

You said she had a scab on her hear.

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:36

yes but it's a pin prick

How is she in herself? If she's fine, then I wouldn't worry too much. Most likely from her nose or ear, you won't necessarily see it.

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:39

she's ok but tired, fell asleep in the buggy on the way back from playgroup this morning (11.45), whereas normally she doesn't nap until about 1.30-2.00

My dd had a nosebleed in her cot the other night ,we ddn't notice until morning and then only because she sneezed and it was a bit bloody .

Tiny scabs can bleed a lot and little noses often bleed at night I can understand you worrying but I would try not too much I'm sure she will be fine .

piratecat · 18/11/2008 12:43

where in cot is it, in relation to her sleeping position. top or bottom?

Mammina · 18/11/2008 12:45

thanks fiveplus

piratecat there's one at the top, one at the bottom, she moves around a lot during the night, but it's where her head would have been

i did think after i posted that this was proba stupid question, long time since me dd was so little, and i do remember it was a surprise each morning to see where she'd be in the cot!!

good luck.

sparklestickchick · 18/11/2008 12:59

Mammina · 18/11/2008 13:01

Has she got a bad cold? My dd often has little nose bleeds when she has heavy colds and coughs.
It's scary though isn't it, when you find it. Hope she's better soon.

Piffle · 18/11/2008 13:06

my ds scratched inside his nose
honestly you would have thought someone had been stabbed...
Perhaps this is the case?
Blood from coughing is contained within phlegm (am veteran of pneumonia and pleurisy sadly)

Mammina · 18/11/2008 13:07

I wouldn't say she has a bad cold at all, no, sneezed a few times this morning and occasional cough
