blood on DD's sheets - help

am really panicking, just put DD down for nap, and noticed 2 x 20p piece sized blood stains in her cot (her dad obviously didn't notice it this morning bec it was dark when she woke up). There's no signs of dried blood in her nose or ear, and I heard her coughing during the early hours so can only assume it came from her mouth. Have called GP & waiting for duty doctor to call me back.

She seemed a bit clingy yesterday and didn't eat fantastically but ate a normal breakfast today and seemed ok but tired.

Anyone had experience of this? thanks

there was definitely no phlegm, just blood. Maybe she was just picking her nose in her sleep

Migola - dont panic!! I had exactly this experience when my DD was about 6 months. Blood in her drool basically, and on her sleeping bag in the morning, and a bit on her sheet. About exactly the same size as you describe. Completely panicked (and posted on here I think). Phoned the out of hours doctor (it was the weekend) who wasnt that worried but once had heard the words "blood from mouth in 6 month baby" sent us up to A&E. Upshot was that A&E doctor - and then my GP with whom I had a follow up - thought it was a result of a burst blood vessel in the nose, in turn a result of sneezing or coughing or something. No-one compeltely said for definite what it was - but that was the general consensus, but in any case, it was not thought to be anything to worry about in any way. Sounds like it would be a very similar thing - especially if your DD has had a cold/cough recently (though I dont remember that mine had actually, so dont worry if she hasnt either!)?

just got back from GP, and really none the wiser! She had a look in her ears, said there was no sign of blood, had a look up her nose & said it was snotty, tried to have a look in her mouth but said she couldn't see anything, listened to her chest which was clear, and said "I admit it's a bit random isn't it...", then said it was unusual to cough up blood with no underlying infection, said she seemed well (which she does), and said, well maybe it's from the (minuscule) scratch on her ear . Said to keep an eye on her & to come back if it happens again. No mention of burst blood vessel..

Yes, completely fine, migola (she is 16 months now). This happened about 3 or 4 times around that time, and then no more. As I said, no-one really knew for definite what it was, but no-one was worried (except for me and DH!). I remember a nurse I spoke to about it said it was not unusual, that blood vessels in little ones in nose/back of nose could burst very easily (then dry over and then be reopened with another cough or sneeze). She was still quite posset-y then, and there was no blood in her milk, so I knew it wasnt coming from her stomach. I have a feeling that about 4 or 5 months ago she had a big sneeze, and ended up with a bit of blood in her mucus and I remember thinking that I could now definitely conclude thats what it was.

I would think you definitely dont need to worry, but it is a bit frustrating not having a solid, reassuring answer.

cory how much blood was there? I'm hoping this is what happened to DD and nothing serious, I'm just not buying that it came from her ear, there's too much blood
