Ours was 18 weeks last year. I can't imagine they have sped up since. You do get back pay if they award it.

Oh thankyou so much. We've done the paper form specifically for this reason. Do they text you once it's been put on the system and any updates at all?

We did get some texts and letters. It did take a few weeks for them to confirm receipt. I did the online forms, even though it then doesn't backdate, so i could make changes as I went along. Sooo much information needed!

JammyR12 · 19/03/2025 16:48

I’ve actually just rung them because I submitted the claim back in November, the letter response says 15 weeks, but on the call they’ve told me it’s actually 25 weeks but they just haven’t updated the letter. So I’ve asked for it to be escalated x

Oh gosh. That's ridiculous! I hope you're child gets awarded it. My daughter needs it as her vital care for equipment monthly is over £100 and we can't afford it but have not choice as the NHS refuse to fund her as she doesn't tick the box. 😠

Siia · 05/05/2025 16:13

Ididitmyway14 · 08/05/2025 13:29

Forms sent beginning jan 25
Rang yday as have had no confirmation it was received told me to call back at 28weeks absolutely ridiculous

OneSparklyFawn · 20/05/2025 16:15

New claim, sent forms 1st class 10/02 - scan date 13/02 - I didn't receive letter of that until 04/03. Letters are outdated stating 15 week wait, was told 25 weeks over the phone due to large back log.. so looking at August! Good luck all..

abbs1 · 27/06/2025 22:09

Been waiting 18 weeks for decision. Had someone call today asking some questions and said I should get letter with decision in the next week or so.
Hoping its not a rejection letter.

I had mine as a text on the 20th of March and then 27th June had the call and a week later confirmation letter of DLA. So it seems they are quicker than 25 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Oh amazing, fingers crossed it's all done soon, the waiting is unbearable. Was the call just to ask extra questions about your child's needs?

Rang up for update and they saod a decision has been made but couldn't tell me whether iy has been awarded or not and I have to wait for the letter. I feel sick. How long does it take for the letter to come. They saod the decision was made on 9th july

raven0007 · 14/07/2025 17:13

I work for DLA.

New Claims are up to 25 weeks. MRs & change of circs are 27-30 weeks at the moment. Ignore the letters the dates are completely wrong.

I will ring in the morning my anxiety is bad at the min, I don't like the unknown wish I never rang up now, I haven't recieved any text, but i never recieved a text even when I sent the forms off for an acknowledgment to say they have recieved them so I don't know how telling a text is.

Them telling you to wait for the letter isn’t a bad sign, they say the same thing to everyone who calls, unless you get through to someone like myself who has the access to see the details. Best time to call is between 12:30 & 13:30, we work on the phones in shifts, for that hour you have all of us on the phones so you’ll get through quicker.

Yes so they called to ask some more questions and formal diagnosis which we got after dla form was sent in. We got the back payment before the letter with the level of dla awarded so keep an eye on your bank account. The woman I spoke to wouldn't tell me over the phone if it was awarded just said the letter will say but a lot of people say the money comes before the letter and it did. Fingers crossed for you.

If your decision was made on the 9th, and your child is entitled, it takes 4 working days for the money to get to your account. Check your bank in the morning.
